Terence was so good at putting one and one together. He has the knowledge, historical, philosophical, scientific and of the literature, and he connects the dots, he makes the links between things that don't seem to be associated at first glance. It's really amazing to listen to
I think it’s interesting how he found out Hermes was a fabrication and it’s fascinating how John Dee built upon these lies. Given we now know Shakespeare was probably Edward de vere it makes me wonder what else was a lie? Was John Dee real? I have come to believe all this occultism is a massive distraction from discovering the true self which psychedelics show us. Why is there so many lies throughout history? How do we know what to believe? I wish McKenna was alive during this age of conspiracy thinking as he would surely requestion a lot of this occult stuff
4:28 How odd. This is like a coming together of things. 1)Coming into this with the idea that mushrooms, all of them, communicate; 2)the whole ball of Philip K. Dick, Carl Jung, synchronicity, schizophrenia; 3)Rod Steiger's (paraphrased) question of an answer (in another interview), "How do we know that the human mind ever comes back together after general anesthesia?". So, sitting here drinking mushroom coffee I am reminded of eight instances of being so anesthetized that I didn't wake up for the slicing open of some part or another of my body. And now I am going to finish listening.
This is an amazing resource of introduction, explanation and reference books to explore further, had no idea McKenna explored these things. Thanks for sharing this treasure!

I would say science rather adopted the essence of occultism (curiosity) and the exclusivity (one truth only) of traditional religion. This is why religion adopted science in its colleges and hospitals, and occultists often were intellectuals too. In a sense, science is a synthesis.
@@johnnewton8017 Thanks, I was also alluding to the fact that science based subjects seem to have mysterious ends much like how alchemy is looked at retrospectively. I ponder the function of science and where it should be headed and used for, as well as the function of many of our universities.

Has anyone else gone totally manic after tripping on a large dose of shrooms? I did. It was days and days. I had such a crazy ego and I thought I was above all other human beings and that I was like an Alan watts or a terrence McKenna. My life is completely different now. I ended up stripping my clothes off naked in front of my parents. I got all worked up sipping more and more shrooms. It was about an Oz of albino mushrooms

It’s quite difficult to see a person’s point of view when they have such a basic grasp of grammar. Read Carl Jung and then the Kybalion and then tackle Hermeticism and you’ll understand the point of the religious references.

Everything is said so perfectly, that no energy is wasted trying to understand.
Your comment is a beautiful description of this!
I second that. So well said.
That guy was so profound, in such a casual way. RIP Magister.
Terence McKenna truly is a genius.
In ancient texts the terms Faith and Imagination are interchangeable.

Science, the new alchemy? Perhaps it is the axis of all thought. A union of discovery and process. A method of finding truth.
