I think it’s interesting how he found out Hermes was a fabrication and it’s fascinating how John Dee built upon these lies. Given we now know Shakespeare was probably Edward de vere it makes me wonder what else was a lie? Was John Dee real? I have come to believe all this occultism is a massive distraction from discovering the true self which psychedelics show us. Why is there so many lies throughout history? How do we know what to believe? I wish McKenna was alive during this age of conspiracy thinking as he would surely requestion a lot of this occult stuff

I would say science rather adopted the essence of occultism (curiosity) and the exclusivity (one truth only) of traditional religion. This is why religion adopted science in its colleges and hospitals, and occultists often were intellectuals too. In a sense, science is a synthesis.
Science, the new alchemy? Perhaps it is the axis of all thought. A union of discovery and process. A method of finding truth.

@@johnnewton8017 Thanks, I was also alluding to the fact that science based subjects seem to have mysterious ends much like how alchemy is looked at retrospectively. I ponder the function of science and where it should be headed and used for, as well as the function of many of our universities.
@@Crabbadabba everything is supernatural before it's named. Photosynthesis and tornadoes are no less magic today than there were in antiquity, even though we are taught these things in grade school now.
This is an amazing resource of introduction, explanation and reference books to explore further, had no idea McKenna explored these things. Thanks for sharing this treasure!

Has anyone else gone totally manic after tripping on a large dose of shrooms? I did. It was days and days. I had such a crazy ego and I thought I was above all other human beings and that I was like an Alan watts or a terrence McKenna. My life is completely different now. I ended up stripping my clothes off naked in front of my parents. I got all worked up sipping more and more shrooms. It was about an Oz of albino mushrooms
