Minor spoilers: I think the dead ends are easily the biggest issue with this game, but another point is how there's no clear sense of progression. Like, with a tiny bit of editing (cutting off the end of Act 3 and removing the Swin plotline) you could swap all three Acts around and the story would barely change. The ASO literally only discovers the main villain's final location because an attack came from there (an attack they only survived because of a reset of course). That could've happened at literally any point in the game. The ASO's success doesn't feel earned. Literally all they did was constantly fail to victory, only succeeding because of the most shameless plot armour I've ever seen. They didn't work their way to the main villain. They had the path to the main villain shown to them when the game decided it was time to fight him.
IIRC the Calvard arc was meant to be 3 parts and Daybreak 1 didn't do much to lead into 2 like Cold Steel and Sky did for their sequels. So DB 2 was tasked with starting from scratch again, having a lukewarm plot that carries the game while the real major plot is held off on for a third game that gets scrapped and integrated into Kai. I haven't played DB 2 or Kai yet and have tried to avoid spoilers, so Idk much about either but it seems like whatever was planned for DB 3 should of been integrated into DB 2 once 3 was canceled. And then they could of figured something else out for Van's portion of Kai. Once again I don't know where Van and company are at story wise by the end of Kai and if there is more for them to do, but it sounds like that would of been a more ideal scenario. Cause from the looks of it, DB 2 is just one long intermission between 1 and Kai and not a proper sequel like every other arc in the series which is a shame.
Gameplay has been improved but the plot leaves a lot to be desired. The villains also don't have much charisma but it's worth it to be able to see some characters in the group getting their personal stories more depth and space.
Played both DB1 and DB2 using the fan patches. For me, they are both of similar quality just with different tradeoffs. Calvard Arcs a 6/10 for me for now, and could be convinced to go up or down a point depending on how the Kai games impact my interpretation of the first two games.
Thank you for the review, even though it may be a weaker one i'm still very much looking forward to getting my Trails fix!
Especially given the amount it ties into Kai No Kiseki, you mean?

From what I understand in this game gives more questions than answers.

Kai really pushes the story forward and yeah DB2 pretty much felt like an intermission

Haha..
story falling
Music falling
Only graphic up 😂
Yeah its unfortunate this happened with the game. DB1 and Kai beat this easily
I'd like to call it "Trails into Mindbreak"
Thanks for the review usually i beat the game first and then review but i also want to hear other people opinions and i respect yours so much

This game is indeed one of the weaker side of the Trails series. Did it still peak a little? Maybe Falcom should take a little break in the series.
Next game they redeemed themselves quite a bit. They are on a bit of a break now so i guess 2026 is when the next entry is out
