@@lilchaphikes We had an awesome hike! Any day on the trail is a better day than most others. Those damn mosquitoes though! Don't you use a head net for bugs? I don't think I'd have survived the trail without one.
Chap, I am sure you know about Permethrin. But at most Tractor supply stores you can get it in concentrate, You get a 38 ox bottle for around 25 bucks, Mix 1 oz of Permethrin to 30 oz water and spray everything down. Between 4 of you for about 10 bucks each you all can treat everything you have to cut back the bugs. It is safe for everything but cats and you find it in the Horse section of the store. The only thing extra you need is a spray bottle. It might be a handy investment. It can't hurt to give it a shot. The down side is either packing the extra for later or donating it to others. Here where I live there is one mountain that has 300 lakes on it, The Mosquitoes are so bad I won't go up there till fall unless I have everything treated. If you decide to try this it is Gordons 10 Permethrin. This is also getting into the time of year when West Nile kicks off. Be safe. You guys are doing awesome.
Yes, Desolation Wilderness is popular because it is easy striking distance from Tahoe via side trails. It thins out, the father you get past the population centers. I remember going over Phipps pass (sp) with lighting striking around us. The mosquitoes go away August-September; with June/July at their peak. Same with Oregon/WA. We’ve been enjoying your videos and appreciate the effort you put in them. Thank You.
Desolation Wilderness is one of our family's favorite backpacking destinations (only 2 hours from Sacramento). A lot of day hikers go to Lake Aloha, but they tend to thin out after that. It's a popular backpacking destination too. Oh those darn mosquitos!! We did a trip last August from Echo Lakes to Lake Aloha and then as far as Gilmore Lake (then back out). The night we spent at Gilmore Lake was mosquito central! I had to cook in our tent (something I never do). I referred to those darn things as "little spawns of Satan!!" 😂🙄 Good luck with the rest of your hike. Hopefully this wretched heatwave we are having right now isn't affecting you too much.
Spectacular scenery! Looked like some pretty thick clouds of mosquitos. Growing up in Alaska, I know exactly how miserable they can make things. Just drive you crazy. I remember running through the woods to get home to escape them and feeling like I was getting sandblasted 😂 Best of luck getting past them!
1100🎉 Frustrate the mosquitos, grab some garden gloves, elk hide, like we use on trail maintenance and wildfire fighting, at the next stop, mosquitoes cannot get through them (nor can the upcoming black flies). Do it now and keep your sanity 😂
I think you are in Mosquitoville for a while by the looks of other hiker reports ahead of you. Plan accordingly, beast mode high miles, whatever it takes. Good luck. Hike~~On~~>
I'm watching this on July 8th and am wondering if yall are being affected by the new fires up there yet. Like the Shelley fire that crosses the PCT . Hopefully by the time yall get there its contained and mopped up. 🤞🤞🤞
Congtrats on 1100 miles and 22.3 miles today.
Yay, happy to see this video! Arpan and I were very glad to run into you out there! Happy trails! 👣
Hope you had a great hike!

@@TrishaBiswas I agree! I have a head net, but I don’t use it often. I think it bothers me as much as the bugs.
Love how you always take the time to show us the views. Next best thing to being there, especially for those of us who can't travel anymore. Thanks!
LETS GO!

Good scenic video of mountains! I haven't seen Fireball but I saw Bigfoot 😅

I’m heading to Kennedy Meadows South to Hike the High Sierra soon....Mosquitos be gone
Enjoy!
Mozzies bad? Just wait until you get to Oregon!
Congrats on 1100!

The Shelley fire is a bit north of us.
Thanks for the amazing views, but I’m just itchin’ and scratchin’ just watchin’. Hope you get a break.
Wow, those skeeters are bad. Have you tired a Thermacell? We just bought one but haven't tried it yet. It would be worth it to keep the bugs away.
I have one at home.
Order your snow shoes............
agreed. They are at least 90 days away from Canada. That means snow and they also have to get past Snoqualme. (sp)
What happened to Fireball?
She was exhausted and stopped a few days. Back on trail now.
She spent a few days partying for the 4th
Have you seen any actual Bigfoot yet?
What's the day temperature at the moment (average) and night temps?
Effing hot! 100+
How can RR be 200 miles ahead of you????
Not having as much fun?
