It’s nothing revolutionary, but I have a strict budget per month that I can use for books, so it keeps the buying in check, but I still get my little hit of serotonin. Also, as a rule I try to read books from the library first or borrow from friends and then buy them once I know I loved it and really want it part of my library long-term, which means my physical TBR is really short. Good luck figuring out what works for you! We’ve all struggled with this question at some point!
I like browsing bookstores but Im trying to buy less! I've seen people doing a read 5 before buying a new book and that would be good. Also you could totally take your current book to a bookshop, browse for a bit but then sit in bookstore cafes and have a coffee whilst reading your current book? That way your trip still has a purpose but you can browse too!
Some of the ways I've tried to curb book buying is either "earning" a new book (ex: I can buy a new book after I read 5 books from my physical TBR, or you could even do one in one out) or buying only books after I've read them which seems a little counterintuitive but then means that I only own books that I love and want to own for a long time. I still think window shopping at book stores is a fun pastime but then I write down books I'm excited about and get them from the library. You do you though, love your content!
I've been challenging myself to only buy one new book for every 5 I read off my physical tbr. I've found it strikes the right balance between letting me still browse and buy occasionally, while encouraging me to get through some on my physical tbr!
Life’s too short, if you want to buy the book, buy it 😅 I understand completely about going book shopping and making it you happy. Even if it’s just limiting to one book when you go shopping, it’s not too bad if limiting how many you buy is something you want to do. But personally, if you want it and can buy it, I’d just do it. I always regret not buying a book when I see it and walk away 🤠
haha i like your thinking! i think i might do something along these lines but yeah restricting myself seems a bit silly when it brings me so much happiness lol!🥰
I feel you! I did the same then a few weeks in I bought a few.. I think carry on buying.. there might be a new release higher on your tbr list than an older book. I’ve got about 300 on my shelves and have given up trying to ban book buying now… it brings me too much joy to stop 😅
I’d say try and refrain from purchasing books which could be easy to get hold of at a later date, that you would like to read but can’t see yourself wanting to read in the very near future. That leaves you in a position to purchase exciting/highly anticipated releases which you are likely to read quick, as it’s less likely to sit on your TBR then maybe?
Hello! If you want to curb buying books, why don't you try and get the book from the library and see if you like the book then go and purchase a copy at a later date because the prices of the books do come down and second hand websites sell them at a reasonable price.
hey! this is defo a good idea, i tend to use the library for books i have to read for video but i’m not super interested in but a first resort for most of my reading might also be a good idea!
