A cyclist who can do 25-30+ has been riding for years and can control his bike. Allot of Ebike riders have no experience or coordination but can wrecklesly do 30mph. Ebikes are a problem.

More people getting out of cars and riding bikes especially ebikes and not paying high gasoline, high insurance, high parking fees and traffic tickets.
The Parks Department is doing a disservice to the city. Seniors like myself and adults with child seats ride e-bikes in a park because of the safety it offers. It's not about speed, as we have all seen folks in tights quietly zipping by us in there racing bikes. A pedal assist bike is about going further and enjoying the outdoors, without feeling beat the next day. If it has pedals, it's a bike with or without the assist of a motor. Motorized vehicles don't have pedals. Parks Dept. KISS.

On the topic of them being fast and and dangerous, if you don't also have a problem with regular bikes, which can and do go just as fast, then you're showing your ignorance. On the topic of ebike riders being lazy, some people have mobility issues or can't ride a normal bike for health reasons. And forgive us for wanting to explore and take leisurely rides without getting tired and sweaty. Hundreds of thousands would be out of a job this impacting 5 times that many families. Did I mention good for the environment? As Nyc nears closer and closer to lower emission. Clean air for you & your baby, isn't that your joys of prospect park? Sounds good shifting to electric Bikes doesn't it. Now those guys on Mopeds, and electric motorcycle style bodied Bikes are the intended target. These are "Replica Vehicles" made electric and not electric bicycles. How to spot them? They have no pedals. Focus on the bad apples ONLY! But as it goes living with those who don't think, feel, or care--- everyone suffers together. Such is the state of affairs this decade. Fighting for bans on what makes progresses this state, would only result a Smokey Smoggy backdroped city on top of our crime burdened streets. It will literally look like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, smoggy streets and footmen commiting crimes where police can't even peer through the fog down the block. Go ahead. Ban Ban Ban bc change is something to fearful. Please, localize the fears to those driving "actual" vehicles electric on sidewalks and bike lanes and bridges. Its simple, If there's a bike lane in the park, ALL bikes are allowed.
Americans don't know ebike classifications. *Peddle assist ebikes can't accelerate without peddling, otherwise it's a moped. Also anything sold as an ebike in the US can't have a motor that exceeds 20mph.*

I believe the reasoning behind this is to eventually make ebike riders buy license plates register and buy insurance pretty much it's about revenue.
