The vast majority of the ride is easy going, you'll do fine. Just save a little energy during the first half, so you're not too tired for the hill out of Fort Augustus.
Yes I made a route similar to this as I would like to do a loop of Loch Ness next year , showing a fairly hilly ride but the roads & views look excellent. I did something like this one time around Windermere lake all beit a shorter ride but it was very good .
Good video. My mates and i are in in from 2.07 red jacket yellow helmet, And 2.15 the two in the red jackets after the chap on the Cipollini. Then were in front on the turn in Drumnadrochit
Good video, well done. For me the dreich conditions would have been easier to bear if I hadn't been suffering bad cable drag. Got home and investigated and found that in fitting a new RD cable I'd got it twisted around the brake pipe inside the downtube! That's a mistake I won't make again.
@@Tazfiend Out of interest, how the heck do you shoot the video from just in front of the bike with the camera rotating every minute? I'd like to do the same on my cycling and kayaking trips.

On a long selfie stick (which is obviously a bit harder on the bike) it can look a lot like a drone shot.
Thank you. 🍻 I use the Insta360 X3 on their "Third Person/Invisible Bicycle Handlebar Mount" (snappy name isn't it?). The one thing I'd warn you about it is that the carbon fibre pole can fail on rough British roads. They warn you it's not for off-road use - but it's not up to consistently rough and potholed roads either. I have ended up having an aluminium pole machined to replace it.

I am doing this for the first time next month! Did 35 miles on the bike today. I've never done 66 miles before! I'm nervous but looking forward to it!

@@Tazfiend okay, thank you! 😊
Great video! Gave the family a real glimpse as to what it was like. Was surprised to see my cameo at 2:20 🤣Well done!
Glad to be of service. I was hoping it gave some small sense of the day. 👍🏻
Well done ! It was a fantastic day , roll on next year . The King of the mountain was tougher than I expected , just seemed to go on and on ….
It bloody does go on and on! 😅
I rode it today, on the motorbike. Far easier!

The roads and the views are good, although I wouldn't ride the mainnroad from Inverness to Fort Augustus when it's open to traffic.
@@Tazfiend oh ok thanks for the advise
@@252Scooby that was one of the main reasons I did the etape; the chance to cycle that road without fear of death by tourist coach or caravan.
I was well chuffed at getting up the climbs and not getting off, not bad for a fad lad, great event.
Getting up that hill without getting off is definitely an achievement. 👍🏻

Glad you enjoyed it. I hope it's good for the memories of that lovely sunny day. 😉👍🏻
Nice one taz, well done buddy 😃 fair play for staying on to the summit
I was chuffed with that. Cheers Mutters. 🍻
Great video. Looks like you did better on the climbs than I did 😂
It's a tough climb, but I live on the west of Scotland, so I get practice on hills!

Oops. I had much more minor indexing issues myself, but that sounds a pain.

I’ve signed up for my first Etape and drove the king of the mountain on my way back from Mallaig last week, safe to say I’m a little nervous…
It's a tough climb, but it's not quite as bad as it looks. Just don't go out too strong at the start, pace yourself.
Thanks for the advice, much appreciated! I think I’ll give it a blast in March and April to see what I’m in for 😉
what was your average speed ?
15.1mph. Hardly astounding pace, but I was happy enough.
What a gringo fest that is
