The story of how Britain occupied the Suez canal.
In 1956, due to Egypt’s growing ties with certain Communist countries, the US and British governments pulled out of funding the Aswan High Dam on the Nile River. This dam would have (and eventually did) for the first time put the annual Nile floods under human control- an important development for the people of Egypt in terms of agriculture and food security.
In response to the US/UK pullout, Egypt nationalized the governance of the nearby Suez Canal, a crucial international trade route on Egyptian territory. The British and French were afraid that Egypt would prevent their transportation of-you guessed it-petroleum through the Suez, so when diplomatic discussions failed, they roped Israel, which had a tense relationship with Egypt, into a manufactured conflict. The Suez Crisis.
Israel attacked Egypt and went into the Suez region. Britain and France then came in as “peacekeepers”, demanding that both countries withdraw from the region. The two European countries then “offered” to govern the Suez Canal (AKA they began an occupation of part of Egypt.)
But hilariously, both the US and the Soviet Union weren’t down with this, and in the end the UK and France were asked to get out of the Suez region. This marked a turn in Britain and France’s global roles; they lost much of their influence in the Middle East, while Egypt came out as a victor in the region.

The stranded ships, which belonged to eight countries (West Germany, Sweden, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, Poland, Bulgaria, and Czechoslovakia), were nicknamed the Yellow Fleet after the desert sand that coated them.

Actually with Nasser came to power in Egypt he was neutral not in eastern or western block and when he wanted to build the high dam the UK and US offered him to finance the dam and join the western block Nasser accepted but when the west saw his good relations with the USSR they took out the finance then he goes to Suez canal and nationalized it and from that Egypt joined the eastern block but not being communist again the US,CIA tried to give Nasser money secretly to change his foreign policy and go to the west but Nasser took the money and ignored the request and built the Cairo tower with that money near the US,Embassy
