  • Melanie Safka's all-time classic in the fantastic rendition by Vicky's crystal clear voice back in 1973. Enjoy!

In my opinion, I don't care who sings what, I just simply enjoy good music, and this is good music. EVERYBODY IS TALENTED IN THEIR OWN WAY, whether they sing their original or not. I love Vicky's music, her voice is out of this world. Thank you for sharing this.

I'm convinced: The lady has a voice, can sing, do "covers" with a straight face, and make an good impression! She should have mad an effort to make her presence known in the US; she would have been well-received, for sure!!!

I've been a big fan of Melanie Safka since the early 70's and yes, this is one of her very best, and a "signature " song for her, and was written about her personal experiences. But Vicky Leandros is such a fantastic artist, and a great interpreter of songs. so I think her version stands on its own. Even tho' I can see how it might be a bit awkward if Melanie were to do a version of "Apre`s Toi" or" L'enfant au ballon" ... So I can see both sides. Personally I like Vicky's interpretation a lot.

Normally I don’t like cover tunes , but damn Vicky has a voice! But Melanie’s version still haunts my soul. This is very well done!!!!

While I must admit this is a very good rendition, I do not get the chills down the spine like I do with he original version as sung by Melanie. It could be that the song was written from the soul as a very personal experience and as such, is rare to capture by others. In my opinion it is songs like this and several others from that time era that is sorely missing from today's music. Maybe the light needs to be re-lit or at least fed.

This is a great surprise to hear Vicki had recorded this tune. It is excellent as Melanie's own original version was excellent unto itself. It's not like we're comparing Michael Bolton with Otis Redding's versions of Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay here.Vicki does a very believable and heartfelt version of the original by Melanie.
    Thanks for posting this!

Isn't there a German version of this? The German version is what I remember Vicky Leandros singing. Always loved how this made the song different, yet still as amazing as when I first heard Melanie sing it.

I do wonder if Melane would make as a good job of Vicky's songs as Vicky does of this classic. I can listen to both and I am plesed Vicky did this cover it all those years ago.

Artists from the past sang beautiful music and did not rely on monster light shows, loads of dancers and costumes to do a show. They used their overwhelming talent to carry them.

@gojira202020 - what has Max Sharam to do with this song? This song was written by Melanie Safka, who was at Woodstock as you seem to know. This singer is Vicky Leandros.
Why can only people sing this song who were at Woodstock? Very short sighted Gojira.

OKAY>> Ijust watched the Max Sharam version for the first time a few minutes ago...And I do think she missed the point. I think Vicky's version is far superior.....So I agree with "UncerMe"... there is no comparasin between the two.

will never ever touch melanies first of all the chorus is off key the melody harmony almost there however not quite how do you even compare to the high priestess melanie who not only wrote this beautiful gospel song however blows anyone off the stage singing it as well what a joke to even compare the high priestess to vicky landros i don't think so and i'm a greek just like vicky however vicky i'm surprised you even did it i guess awesome for my one and only high priestess

Vicky is more refined and professional, Melanie has more heart and her instinctive, beautiful voice is more honest. Both versions are great imho.

Doesn't compare to the original. Technically, it's "AS" good, but there's nothing there...nothing from the heart. She sounds like she's just singing the words from a piece of paper.
