I flied some years in Arica and always was a dream for us fly from Iquique to our city. I saw some friends trying before you, but the valleys was the limit. Finally is done, congratulations.
My longest Chile flight was just over 100k from Chipana to Palo Buque, but that is basically one long and friendly LZ along beaches and a highway. You did about 200k with pretty much no Plan B, except for a few spots along the way, and that on a cloudy day with not much thermic lift. Not many places on the planet where you can count on a sea breeze for that long. You're a brave man.
I have been always wondering if these kind of flights are possible, thanks for showing. 🙌 Surprisingly turbulent every now and then, one would guess that big ocean means laminar wind.
This video is so unique! I don't think that any Chilean has ever seen how the north coast looks like from above. I was astonished by the rugged geography and virtually unhinabitable areas seen on this video. Then all of a sudd3n Arica comes from nowhere
You are brave. Your video quality....Outstanding. Your flight.... Unbelievable. Up there with the greatest aviators/explorers----- and I do not now your name even. Gongratulations from Santiago, Chile.
I was in Arica for work in September, you landed in front of the hotel that I was in. I was a paraglider pilot some year ago and for various reasons I had to quit, your flight both thrilled and frightened me because I understand how dangerous could be flying along that coast, not only for the absence of landing spots but also for the distance from roads in case you could land in the top, if the worst thing is to walk for hours and hours after an unwanted landing there you could have walked for a day, main road going to Iquique is lots of km inside the land! What you did is really unique!
WOW!!! JUST. WOW!!! THAT WAS INCREDIBLE! DONT THINK IVE EVER FELT SO SCARED SAT IN FRONT OF MY PC WATCHING A FLYING VIDEO! YOU HAVE HUGE BALLS MY FRIEND!!
Zion, what an adventure ! I'm sure we are many who would like to watch a walkthrough of you strategy and thought process for and during this flight. Why does the video jumpe the Quebrada de Vitor crossing just after you say you don't like how it looks, white caps ? Landing update, none, yup, that one goes into my favorites ✅😂
WOW, impressive flight!! something that very few would do due to the distance, the patience and the risk involved, greetings from Alto Hospicio and Iquique!!
Such a dreams come.true....i love the chilean north!!!! Specially landscapes , i am felling home sick after watch this video!!!!! I need to go home, greeting from New Zealand.🥰
Inspiring ! Thanks for that. Sweaty palm inducing, most of it. I think if I ever get round to attempting my dream flight from Iquique, I'll stick to Tom Weissenberger's route... possibly equally hair-raising, but at least I know it can be done in a hang glider. Chapeau, my man.
Impressive flight and video. I couldn't stand the violent turbulences for long - which you stood after passing the steep cliff faces with no options to land anywhere...
Fantastic flight, well done. Very brave to travel along this coast with no landings. I have flown from the boarder where you landed north. So, Tacna to Boca del Rio.. but not epic like yours.. Respect. Keep posting videos..
Nice to see this fantastico vídeo! , en 1992 i flew 8h30 whith my friend Regis Laurent, 212kms from Tocopilla to Iquique, arrive in Iquique at 18h30, doing a lot off ¨wagas¨ on the dunas, it was yet possible to fly 30 or 40 minutas, but too risky cause off no landing place on wiew, and no rescue possible! Join the both next year!!! Tocopilla to Arica!!! 🤣ou Antofagosta to Iquique!!!
Hello.. I am ATS chief at Chacalluta's Airport , a perfect situation should be if you and your team had coordinated with ATC for your safetiness and the rest of traffic on that route.
At this altitude, traffic is entirely made of birds, do you have their transponders ? Just kidding I also wonder about how safety was managed during this flight
At the "La Lisera" beach ...the air space is in a controlled zone from ground to 5000 feet ..beside that ..there is a military aerodrome called "El Buitre" just 1 mile east from that place... and beside that law is the law ..for everyone...we dont control paragliding aircraft..we prevent others aircrafts who are flying dont collide with paragliding
WoW, that was nerve racking just watching! I hope you were flying with Satellite comms. (inReach) I wonder how much the helicopter ride would have cost, that is assuming you survived a landing out there... So you said "lee side" a few times, does that mean you were flying in the adiabatic lift from the sun, but there was wind coming over the top of the ridge in the opposite direction? Which would mean you had to make sure to stay below the rotor at the top of the ridge? Liked & Sub'd.
bro I'm from Iquique and what you did is something unique. No one has done that before. those northern areas is something very special for us

Greg, you have good videos! greetings from Chile!

What a flight man! I was nervous watching you pass those no landing areas! Incredible adventure!!! Cheers
Same for me!
I can barely imagine how disastrous it would be a wind shut down in the wildest area
That was an amazing flight. I think that’s the best Paragliding video I’ve ever seen.
Felicitaciones....un sueño hecho realidad para muchos que amamos Arica y soñamos con conocer esa costa inexplorada..... a big dreams my frien, thank you

LOL - So you control paragliders 50 meters above the ground and 10 kilometers away from your airport?
At the "La Lisera" beach ...the air space is in a controlled zone from ground to 5000 feet ..beside that ..there is a military aerodrome called "El Buitre" just 1 mile east from that place... and beside that law is the law ..for everyone...we dont control paragliding aircraft..we prevent others aircrafts who are flying dont collide with paragliding
