Japanese censorship laws are literally just "no genitals". Pretty sure anything else goes, which is why we get all the weird gameshows from there. The ecchi anime too.
that's a gaijin misunderstanding. until recently you could have hentai doujins advertised in the front window, but they changed it because of prudes visiting for the Olympics (cause you know arabs would have a fit if they saw a boob)
I really wish i could see a projection of Henya's thoughts as she imagines what the the things she gets descriptions of. Because her being raised half american and half Japanese in such an odd fashion sure has had to leave an interesting imagination.
Mouse isn't wrong. Spanish tv shows are something. Like there's always one or two attractive women in sexy clothing. I remember the few instances of that in some shows I sorta watched. Mainly because I am under a hispanic household so some family members watch novelas or just spanish shows in general. There was one I remember, because it was always on at night and back when I was taken to a laundromat at that time, where it's a school setting but the students are literally adults. And one of women literally wore a sexy school girl uniform. Not too extreme. A skirt and I think the top had it tied up, I think? Can't remember but something like that. All I remember from the few half watch times I have seen is that they all always get smacked by the two teachers with rulers. Spanish tv is wild. Don't think they that kind of stuff anymore.
We still have call teleserye today so their script is the man have mistress the mistress have a partner the partner have a job like prostitution idk the script here always revolved cheating&affair.
I agree with Mousey: by Today’s settings, I’d consider Don Francisco to be one of the first variety streamers as his entertainment was a welcomed sight in every Spanish speaking home. What a time to be alive!
There's a reason why the Simpsons represented latin TV as a soap opera with a guy in a bee suit getting pelted by oranges. It's about the only way to safely represent that level of weirdness.
Yeah Latin American TV is wild Here in Brazil there was a show in weekend afternoons where a bunch of half-naked celebrities wallowed in a bathtub trying to get soap And the star of children's programming was a tall supermodel who would dance in super skimpy clothing with children

funny sex talk aside, this is a very interesting discussion about how people grow up and what they show in different places and how their cultures differ. It’s good stuff, I love hearing people talk about that
the fcc polices english and spanish language broadcasts differently bc of differing community standards. however, cable providers are the real ones responsible: they're famously wildly puritanic at times with english content (heard of one local provider harassing a sports family bar over less than you'd see from cheerleaders at the college basketball games that happen a minute walk away) but they tend to look the other way with non-english content.
i recall two other shows on telemundo that had scantly clad women...(im likely gonna butcher the names so apologies in advance) "el mikimbin de miami" the dancers were in skimpy outfits and "los catikos" (dont recall the actual name on this one) women in basically skimpy tops and bottoms with cat ears and tails doing a variety show of sorts

Just a little thing, is not "Spanish " television, because mouse and Zenn are referring to Hispanic TV "novelas" (In this case the Mexican channel network "Televisa". Spanish is more like a generic name for Spanish people on Europe. BTW: New subscriber!
I remember one time as a kid I was with my father and his friends. They were having a nice time drinking beer n stuff (oh yeah this was in Germany btw). It was in the middle of the night. They were like you like drawing right? and put on Bob Ross on the TV. Then someone came back from whatever, sat down, on the remote control and boom, no more Bob. Instead some boob. Fond memories.
I mean... has Henya seen Japanese TV? they do the same bikini stuff, like watching Best Motoring, and you got the legend himself, the Drift King; Keiichi Tsuchiya showing up to test a car, and a lady in a bikini comes out holding a big card with the car's specs on it, while he points at it with a pointing finger on a stick, just weird. I used to get Sabado Gigante when I lived in NYC. It’s definitely wild. Also El Gordo y La Flaca was the other show I remember. The fat guy and the skinny girl. 😂

Mouse is correct. TLC used to have actual documentaries & education on it (hence it's name) now it's just wall to wall reality crap with Mormons, inmates and overweight people. Bravo got it's name because it actual had operas, plays, musicals and Ballet on it.
Back in my day, Ranma Saotome used to flash his girl-boobs with zero shame. He'd like bust them out just to get an extra scoop of ice cream, and Japan just thought it was funny. Then the US charged in and spread our puritanical crap across the world, ruining it for everyone. That said, Spanish television was straight up objectifying women. It was a very "shut up and look pretty" attitude; that ain't right.
