They are making expensive pledges when they can't even fulfil cheaper ones previously made.
Ukraine military are slowly retreating due to lack of weapons/munitions. It may soon turn into a rout.
Then it's a matter of time when EU will have to make even greater pledges to defend countries from their own ranks.
It would be cheaper for NATO to step in. No point in sending small numbers of equipment without overwhelming air superiority to defend them. This way we are just losing equipment for nothing.Its even counterintuitive cause the side with more equipment will win and suffer lesser damage then statistics.
Ukraine has conducted 7 waves of mobilization, has 2,500 tanks, 900,000 soldiers and is ready to mobilize another 500,000 men as part of the 8th wave of mobilization this year.
France has 200,000 soldiers and 400 tanks, and it is unknown how many French men are ready to mobilize for the war. You should also understand that not all 200,000 French soldiers will go to war, but only a part of them. But the fact that Ukraine cannot hold the front now, even with so many soldiers and tanks, the number of which exceeds the number of regular soldiers and tanks of France, Britain, Germany, Italy and Spain combined, speaks of a very sad situation at the front.

French soldiers fighting against russians in Ukraine, would actually mean: France declared war on Russia
When in war, Russia will not limited their fight against France only in Ukraine. It would for example french ships anywhere in the world. Actually it could attack any part of France in the world. They could send a hypersonic kinszhal missle to destroy weapons fabrics in France
An attack on France on french soil will immediately mean the NATO will be active and all NATO member will fight against Russia.
Since Russia can not fight against so many countries, they have only one remaining option.

Believe me: even if French troops arrive to the Ukraine, no conflict will occur outside the Urkaine. The exception may be in Africa where the RF is now establishing security for the Russian business. But anyway everything will be done with the hands of the locals.

I'm amazed about how many people keep referring (or joking) about France's surrender in WWII. Like, French army is useless and badly trained just because they lost one war almost a century ago. It's becoming redundant and it just shows how childish some of you are.
Edit : To those of you who say "France also lost war against Algeria or Vietnam" : It's like saying that American army is weak because they lost in Vietnam or that the USSR army was weak because they lost in Afghanistan.
The fact that French army lost in World War II was much more due to bad political decisions than because the army wasn't good enough. The fact remains that France is one of the very few armies that have nuclear power, one of the very few that can project it's forces all around the world, one of the very few countries that have a presence in all oceans thanks to their overseas territories and also one of the very few that are more or less independent (produces their own fighter jets, their own nuclear powered submarines, their own tanks...).
Not only joking about their surrender in World War II is becoming less and less funny but it also depicts a distorted reality of what the French army really is in the 21th century.

As a french I can assure you that Macron does this kind of controversial statement quite often. He is an excellent communicator and knows how to put the debate where he wants it to be, with provocations and diversions. I think he doesn't seriously consider sending troops, but wanted to refocus the debate on the war now that Ukraine need it the most. It is also a way to reset our vision of what should be the "red lines" for western allies, because many leaders hide behind these to slow down weapon delivery like Scholz with Taurus missiles.
As an American I say that Macron is a great statesman and France should be extremely proud to have such a leader. I wish we had a Macron! Vive Macron, Vive la France
I tell you, President Macron understands the dynamics and what is at stake very well.
When pres. Biden was commenting in public about what US or NATO would never do, it was rightly viewed as an open invitation to Putin, now Macron is sending out ambiguous messages to make Russians consider their moves twice. This should have been the approach since the beginning.

Thus far Russia has gained much knowledge and experience on a modern battlefield the EU and the west hasn't as yet fought on this type of battle and fighting the russian won't be a good idea I see a failed attempt because Russia has gained experience on this modern battlefield and also modified their equipment multiple times just by trials and errors for the past two years so if this sparks out the EU gets involved they won't have the ability to fight the Russians. Russia's failed attempts have taught them and they have learnt from their mistakes within two years right now Russia is gaining ground on Ukraine on a daily basis and Ukraine's are falling back with higher losses
Yes but Ukraine has a portion of the influence of NATO, a Russian war against NATO would get Russian in an immediate embargo and all of his merchant ships would be easily caught since they don't have many options for ports.
Plus NATO forces would probably use cyber attacks and probably aim strikes at Russian satellites to disrupt communication and missile guidance.

Russia and China empowers Africa Nations, as these nations now have a choice. Russia has been a backbone of ex-French controlled African Nations, who recently had their military coups. So for France, they need Russia to be defeated, not for the peace of Europe, but to maintain their hegemony in Africa lol. It's not rocket science how these French politicians make decisions. lol
These ex African countries, especially those who are still using CFA, are important in France' Economy and Finance. These countries cannot even check, if their savings in France still exist lol.

It's easy to say, but putting your own troops in harm's way is a different issue entirely. The French have lost a total of 59 soldiers during 9 years of deployment in Mali. While the loss of those troops is tragic, it would pale in comparison to the number of troops put in danger if they were deployed to Ukraine. It's possible Macron is serious about that threat, but does the French public support that statement?

Ukraine is literally running out of artillery shells. Instead of going out into the open market and but almost a million rounds that are available, the French have demanded that they money they spend on shells must be produced in France. Only problem is that France can't produce 155 shells to scale for at least a year. France is willing to sacrifice Ukrainian lives in the interest of profits.

NATO could place ground forces in Ukraine on the West side of the Dnieper river. These could provide logistical, medical, and air defense support without coming into direct contact with Russian ground forces for the most part. This could provide some relief for Ukrainian forces.
But the most helpful thing is to provide more munitions to Ukraine and to remove restrictions on their use to allow strikes back against Russia.
