    Well enmeshed into the system now . FF and FG banded together alright . Not many people spoke truer words , it is hard to believe that Ruari , seen this all coming . What a genuine visionary .
    I feel for all the dead men , ex prisoners whose lives have been changed forever after languishing in torture camps , men who have lost their family , wives and children . Men who gave everything and took nothing.
    The poor hunger strikers who died painful deaths for their genuine beliefs , the list is endless . The amount of suffering is immeasurable . Look at Adams now , he took from the people and is living as a lord with his properties all over the place . He is worse than the british colonialists and has become part of the brit system. For what died the sons of Roisin ?
    We are well enmeshed now , North and South . Bought by the Englishmans' purse . Sad in the extreme , so sad . We should have listened to this great republican . RIP Ruari .

    The man was 100 percent right but unfortunately he couldn't bring the people with him, Adams won because the vast majority in PSF weren't committed republicans anyway, true republicans were always a minority in Ireland be it 1916 1922 or 1998, Ireland is too aligned to Britain in its people and its capitalism to ever build a true socialist Republic, revolutionary movements are worthless unless you can get the vast portion of a nations population to back you, we see that today with dissident groups, without public support unfortunately they're efforts are in vain

    • @PS1995-u8r
      @PS1995-u8r 7 лет назад +7

      Exactly, both Adams and McGuinness had been working alongside the establishment at this stage to bring the armed struggle to an end, as none of what the London government and it's occupational forces (RUC, British Army, MI5, etc) wanted would have been possible without the co-operation of Adams and McGuinness. They have even said so publicly. Neither men were actually republicans and sought to infiltrate a movement to become careerist politicians and ditch those same volunteers they used as cannon fodder when the opportunity finally came (aka the Belfast Agreement).

How many less graves would be filled with volunteers had the leadership been honest with them rather than use human tragedy to advance their political objectives?

    Vast majority of Irish people wanted and want peace now.No sence in people dying for a military stalemate. Adams andi mcguiness were right and saw no point in furthering the armed struggle as if they did it would only inflict years of more misery on the Catholic community in northern Ireland. Easy for people in the Irish republic to sabre rattle when they can sleep easy without the fear of getting a knock on the door in the middle of the night from a loyalist death squad. Demographics will take care of a United Ireland,it's only a matter of time before a sectarian head count will get republicans what they want.In the meantime reconciliation is necessary,unless when the time comes for a United Ireland that people want another civil war.

      When though? It’s basically 2022 and all I hear is talk. Ruairí had a solution and vision for a new federal Ireland Eire Nua. Please read IRA secret history, it sheds light on Adams and how he steered the movement in Britain’s favour. Ruairí is right, he was right then and is still right now.

    • @nervesinapattern7261
      @nervesinapattern7261 2 года назад +4

      @@ruairijoseph Isn’t it weird how most civil rights movements /armed struggles have a high rate of attrition when it comes to leaders? But Adams avoids these issues for decades. And those who opposed Adams like Ruairí Ó Brádaigh are cast out. Máire Drumm who was a thorn in adams side is executed while in hospital, yet only a handful of SF leadership where aware of her location? You don’t find it any of this odd? I come from a Republican family, Falls road in Belfast. The rats in the street know about Adams, if he was such a threat to British occupation he’d have been murdered and that’s just plain fact, state collusion in murder of politicians and even lawyers was rampant. The Republican movement isn’t about one man, I’m sick to death of Adams getting credit when In all likelihood he was a British agent. Even Brendan Hughes said he felt deeply betrayed by adams. Sinn Fein is a lot more than adams, leave him in the past.

    • @ruairijoseph
      @ruairijoseph 2 года назад +1

      @@nervesinapattern7261 I didn’t say the Republican movement was about one man? My point is, Ruairi was against ending abstentionism in the 26 counties, while Adams was obviously a leading architect of a massive idealogical shift in Republican thinking, that would see SF TDs take their seats in Dáil Éireann at a time when SF were polling less than 2% of the vote and had zero TDs anyway.
      With SF now most likely Government in waiting in the 26… love him or hate him, Adams’s foresight as a political strategist is truly remarkable. I don’t know how the Brits viewed this new Adams & Co endeavor back in the 80s, but I doubt they envisaged it leading to a SF government in Dublin one day and were happy to manipulate the so called doves and the hawks as best they could to their own end. That is a very different thing from Adams ‘in all likelihood’ being a British agent.
      I respect Ruairi and am actually named after the guy, but by your argument, shouldn’t the Brits have stiffed him too? IN MY VIEW, and I’m not saying it’s the right view… time has proven Adams right and surely if he was indeed a British agent, with SF in the position they are in, and so called dissident Republicans completely compromised, why wouldn’t the Brits trade Adams in and expose him now and do as much damage as possible to the SF project in the 26 counties, who if/when they take power, are only going to cause maximum difficulties for the UK at all levels. Britain has never been pressed by a Sovereign Irish government over their border in our country… the most hostile party in government in Dublin within the EU and effecting UK-US relations etc etc, is the last thing the Brits need? Makes no sense. To be honest, 10 years after decommissioning, I was hostile to Adams and completely disillusioned with where things were… others kept the faith. Respect to all Republicans and unity come a border poll is what is needed. Demographics will settle this all very soon… Our friend Nigel Dodds in North Belfast is a sign of where this is all heading. TAL 🇮🇪

    I alway had liked Ruairi O Bradaigh's he was a purist, but ultimately it was not a winning strategy. The IRA either Official or Provisional, did not have enough to defeat the British militarily and visa versa. Without the capacity to beat them militarily, a political settlement is the only answer. It is as simple as that. By 1986 the PIRA and Provo Sinn Fein was infiltrated and were having secret talks with Britain. The Brits at this time made it clear that they do not wish to hold onto the north at any cost, but could not leave based on a military defeat. Gerry Adams never hid the fact that he believed in a political settlement. He wrote about it in several books. Sinn Fein as a whole made the choice to give up the armalite for the ballot box. Talking was the only way to go and spreading republicanism or constitutional nationalism from the inside. The sad thing is radicalism is lost in the mix. I always respected Ruairi O . The Officials went away for lack of support and became the small Worker's Party. On the other hand Provisional Sinn Fein has put itself in a position to lead both in the north and the Republic.Unfortunately that means giving up on being a radical party and becoming more mainstream to win votes. Ireland is now a modern European country and there is no going back to 1969.

      Ruairi o Braidigh was elected to the Dàil ( irish parliament) in the longford westmeath constituency. He was actually elected a member of parliament while he was imprisoned, before then escaping.

    couldnt beat the ira? well we are still part of the uk. better than that the pira leadership actually works for the uk goverment lol if we are defeated i would be curious to see what victory would be like lol no surrender.

      Keep licking that floor. Elizabeth Saxe-Coburg-Gotha wants it clean enough to eat her dinner off. You might technically be in the UK, for now, but go over to the UK proper and tell anyone you're British and they'll laugh their heads off at you.
      Don't forget that piece of sponge in your lapel now!

    Ruairi . . . you were a gentleman and a scholar, you instilled in me a love of learning. When you came into that class room in the Tech in Lanesboro St, in 1963/4 you instilled trust in me which I fulfilled, you were a brilliant teacher which I have carried with me all through my life. Pamela Casey (BSc OU) I will always remember you as being my best and favourite teacher. R.I.P Ruairi.
