The Achaemenids - Epic Iranian Music

Music and vocals by Farya Faraji. Artwork by Joan Francesc Oliveras Palerolls-if you like Iranian history, be sure to check out his artwork; his drawings are the best visual reconstructions of ancient Iranians I've ever seen on the net: www.artstation...
The Achaemenids were the dynasty who supplanted the previous Median Empire, and established the first Persian Empire in Iranian history, called the Achaemenid Empire. The text being sung is taken from what we call the DNa inscription (Darius Naqsh-e Rustam Inscription). It is the inscription found on his tomb in the royal Naksh-e Rostam necropolis.
Keep in mind that this isn't actual Ancient Iranian music or anything even remotely resembling it-the music of Ancient Iran is completely lost to us, and this is a modern symphonic piece using modern Iranian instruments as well as a Western string ensemble. While a good representation of modern Iranian music, it is by no means meant to be taken for the music of the time of the Achaemenids.

Būmim adā hya avam asmānam
Adā hya martiyam adā hya

Translation:
A great god is Ahuramazda,
Who created this earth,
Who created yonder sky,
Who created man,
Who created happiness for man,
Who made Darius king.

I would like to visit Iran next summer. I think it is one of the most amazing and interesting country in the world, and I also know that Iranians are one the most hospitable and welcoming people in the world, because they consider hospitality a very important value. However, I’m a little uncertain. Probabily my question is silly, but I need to know if Iran is a safe place to travel alone. I never travel following travel itineraries suggested by travel agencies or with tourist groups. I like travelling alone, with my backpack, following my instinct day by day. Is it possible in Iran? Greetings from Sicily
Hey! As an Iranian who travels alot, I can assure you that the north parts of Montréal here in Canada are way more dangerous than most of Iran.
Iran’s safety levels are pretty much the same as Turkey, Italy, Spain, etc; there’s neighbourhoods and areas in the bigger cities you want to avoid but otherwise it has a pretty standart level of safety (less than Scandinavia but equal to Southern Europe in general terms)
Also (assuming you are ethnically Italian) unless you’re one of the more blonde/ginger Italians, you’ll have the advantage of looking like a local so the chances of being pestered are even lesser-I’m always assumed to be Greek when I’m in Greece or Italian when I’m in Italy; to a degree, Iranian and Southern European looks are hard to distinguish (apart from Southern Iran, where people are much darker looking), and that always makes it easier from experience as thieves will target people they can easily tell are tourists
@Cyrusthegreat2928 Iranians have a lot of respect for their fellow races, don't be surprised if you come to Iran and someone invites you to their home every 5 minutes. Because Iranians are very hospitable

Bro, I really love your work and the fact that you specialize in the music of the nations/ethnicities who have impacted the west asian region. And I appreciate that instead of being an ultranationalist you respect all of those cultures & histories
Thanks a whole for your kind words David! That's the geographical style of music I'm the most naturally well-versed in due to my origins; so it's a lot easier for me to create music with these geographical influences quickly. As someone who grew up mostly in the West, I'm also equally as familiar with Western European and North American tradition, but these traditions have been represented a lot more, whilst Middle-Eastern/Eastern Mediterranean/North African music could do with some more accurate representation, so I put a little more work in that, even though I'm definitely going to cover more European and North American music in the future.
As for the nationalism aspect, I despise ultra-nationalism and patriotic fanaticism. I'm a human first and an Iranian second. I love my country, but that doesn't mean I should respect other cultures and histories any less, and I respect them just as much as I respect my own culture, and I'm glad people like you appreciate that :)

The voice is very similar to ancient Indian language Sanskrit 🇮🇳🇮🇷
According to the mainstream historians, Old Persian and Sanskrit came from this ancestral so-called Proto-Indo-Iranian language from Central Asia and ultimately from so-called Proto-Indo-European languages from South Russia, and that Sanskrit was brought to India by the Aryans, but this theory is very controversial to us Indians, because there is no evidence of Aryans migrating into India.
Alternatively I've heard that the Parsu tribe, a Rigvedic Indian tribe was exiled into Persia and became the Persians.

This is a stunning song. After chanting intro suddenly music emerges, even with one distortional tone that is actually perfect. This reminds me the biggest glory in Achaemenid Empire and enhances my fascination with the bloodline starting with Cyrus the Great ending with Dareios III.
Those avestan chantings feels so eerily similar to sanskrit chantings that we see in our hindu temples! A bleak reminder that they both are sister languages, I wish to have lived in those fascinating times ❤️

@@ArnoldTeras Can't say the same. The PRC has done more for Iran, then Taiwan--which is basically an American naval base for colonialism.
Old Persian sounds a lot like Sanskrit
Both are proven to be proto-German/Ethiopian pidgin languages.
@@eldermillennial8330 Correlation doesn't equal Causation.
If you pay attention to the lyrics in the discription you'll see how Persian is evolved from Old Persian (Achaemenid Era) to Middle Persian (Parthian and Sassanid Era) and now the New Persian
Asmānam is known as Asman (Sky) today
Martiyam is known as Mard (Man) today
Xsayathiam is known as Shah (King) today
They are both in the Indo-Iranian language group.
Not at alllll😄it wasnt
Martiya I belive is modern mard. Martiya should literally mean 'mortal', as in Sankrt cognate word is martya meaning mortal.
Bumi I belive means land, ground, cognate to Sanskrt bhumi.
Baga I blv is God, cognate to sanskrt bhaga (bhagavan)
Kshayathiya sound similar to Sanskrt kshatriya meaning warrior class.
I love how similar these languages are. I mean after all they're sister languages (Sanskrit and Avestan), also when the Arabs conquered Iran, the iranians fled to India because they thought of us as they're brethren.
Even the english word "Mortal" is some what related to Persian "Martiya" and Sanskrit "Marthya". Indo European roots.........
@@karthikbharadwaj9949 What's interesting is the English word "mortal" isn't actually native to English as it's not of Germanic (more specifically Anglo-Saxon) origin, but rather a Norman-French loanword (and one of many loanwords that got absorbed by the Old English/Anglo-Saxon language preceding it's evolution into Middle English), which evolved from Latin "mortalis".
I am iranian myself and i really enjoyed it. The great history we had. Glory To Cyrus The Great! Glory To Persia!
it's a shame now iran is islamized and arabized.

Very good. I am really sad when I see what kind of country we were and what we have become now. I hope that Iran will become Iran again and be freed from the hands of these mullahs.

Wow, I'm really impressed by this channel. Cool work! Byzantine, Iranian etc music are at last something really authentic, not the general fancy soundtracks which usually are found on youtube. I love all of these.
Thanks alot! I think alot of people making this style of music mostly focus on a general, Western European film soundtrack/orchestral sound, but I like it better the other way around; I prioritise the instruments and musical style of each culture, it feels much more real and diverse that way

Same here! It's definitely the sound of the language; the older you go back in time, the more Iranic languages show their genetic ancestry with the Indian ones-Avestan and Sanskrit are especially similar

Sorry but no country called Macedonia exists...
Yup, they're just knock-off Bulgarians lol
@@jovanpaloski6335 They might not be just Bulgarians, but Albanians and Slavs, genetically. But still no country is called "Macedonia" legally speaking. Anyway this name is attributed to Greek history, and we should be careful when using it, because it can be misleading.
Do names of ancient Macedonian people and places mean something in orher languages than greek? Because in greek they all have their composite meaning. Then and now.
That's not an argument and vincit veritas had Julius Cesar said. Anyway, this arwa is not for quarelling.
