Good info Mad one!! thank you for doing it all in one video, lots of effort on your part but it meant i had something to watch through out my lunch break :-) Cheers
Great video Mads! Watched this before I checked out the other usual suspects. felt like I should after our little run in on the live chat after your 30min DJI rant. That river looks like a great area for some long range (testing). So happy they finaly changed the antenna holding plate with bolts and not those pesky stripping philipshead screws!
Great review, as always :) I'm looking forward to more in-depth GPS tests with the new vtx. I was hoping that they can somehow software-fix it with the old one, but I don't think it's possible.
Finally a 4x3 sensor camera! I couldn't push hard with the 16x9 due to limited vertical. Looking forward to swapping out the crappy 16x9 for 4x3. Awesome. Thankyou for all of the new information. 😀
Not an Avatar user but love the bracket idea for testing on different frames, will have make one for my Vista now, it's so obvious that I never thought of it 😄
I was thinking about how I could make my 03 air units modular the other day. It shouldn’t be difficult to make a slide in pnp unit swappable between frames
Another great video Ian. I’m still on the fence on moving away from the DJI Fpv v2 goggles and vistas and going with the hd zero goggles and the walksnale vtx and the new pro versions of the walksnale v2.
I like the V1 VTX better but I am not using them in multi rotor. The dual antenna is really valuable in some aircraft. I hope they continue to produce the V1. The new cameras seem pretty sweet & its nice they work with the V1 VTX. With some aircraft, such as heli, two antenna is really important to not have the frame block the signal due to the layout.
Superb and complete overview of v2, pro Avatar components and comparisons. Generally flying a bit higher up, the quality of Avatar is great. Down low with lots of detail, there are a few artifacts, but very usable. Great progress over the last 12 months. At 21:50, is that a IR LED source in upper left seen for Pro 2 camera, which didn't appear with the other two cameras? There was an odd streak effect at 26:02. I assume DVR related, as in encoding artifact?
The Walksnail system is now finally looking like a viable competitor...for the DJI V1 system, other than Walksnail beating the DJI V1 by not having that hard range limit. I do like the fact that it isn't made by DJI. Caddex is much more likely to listen to the community. In my opinion, the way they shot themselves in the foot, is not puting any type of signal in port on the goggles for analog. Though I mainly fly digital, I still regularly fly analog on micros and some mid to long range quads. I sold my HDOs almost 2yrs. ago, and I'm still able to enjoy fly micros via the BDI adaptor and Fusion module. Keep it up Walksnail, theres still plenty of time/opportunity for DJI to totally piss me off. Until then, I will keep enjoying the 20 Vistas that I already have, and the 3 new O3 units that I just invested in. Maybe I'll take another look, when Walksnail can also offer 4K on board recording...sooo nice. Great and very thorough review Ian!
Thanks for the very informative video, Ian. I like the long-term videos that give as much info as possible. I'm interested in the V2 camera especially. If only for the 4:3 capability really. The starlight camera doesn't float my boat as I wouldn't personally consider your very low light footage to be flyable in much of a meaningful way, but there's no denying it seems the best option for low light digital right now for sure. I also don't like fisheye lenses and that puts me off having one as my main camera, just for the odd occasion I'd want to fly in low light. I noticed you kept calling it the "polar" camera throughout your video and I doubt Caddx (or DJI for that matter) appreciate that, so maybe best just to refer to it as their starlight camera in future so as not to confuse it with the actual Polar camera for DJI. Thanks again for the video 👍
I would like to see a comparison video with analog. Since they were the king of night time flying. I wasn’t expecting much from DJI and didn’t disappoint lol
I still wish the vtx had onboard type C, but otherwise the new v2 standard 4:3 kit with 20x20 and single antenna is as prefect as I could wish for. this will bolt straight into any new frame not the 5 with a 25x25. I JUST got a v1 vtx off a long pre-order for my apexDC build and this new one is so perfect for the build I will have to order one of these now...
FANTASTIC review, Ian! Thanks a bunch for all the info! 😃 To be honest, although it still doesn't have an SD card slot, it's much better than I expected! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
V2 pro looks really oversharpened and looks similar to me to the nebula nano pro. The low light ability is cool, but for most it's a gimmick. Dynamic range seems better than o3 now, but still seems shit and highlights basically get blown out once shadows start taking up 25% or more of the image.
Is the MIPI connection the same as The Vista at the VTX...?? Could these work with the Vista...Seems a lot like the Caddx Polar pro low light camera..Great video thanks for the work.😎
I will mount a flight controller upside down Now I gave 180 degree on roll axis this is ok. Now if I want to change the yaw axis with inverted placement then should I give the value of the direction in which I want to change or should I give the opposite value?
Stick your gps unit on the quad's front arm. You'll get lock no problem. If you insist on sticking it right on the back next to the vtx you'll have issues😊
I am confused with onboard storage vs. VRX card slots. Do we need to access onboard storage DVR if we have the walksnail VRX where video gets recorded to an SD card? Maybe I am missing out on the features of onboard storage - is it better quality compared to what gets sent to the SD card in my VRX?
Yes it’s a higher quality on the storage onboard the VTX. You don’t have to use it but it’s direct to the unit rather than with the over the air compression.
all those upgrades and it looks like Caddx hasn't jacked up the price of the kits! next step - replace the onboard storage with sd-card support? please? e : perhaps there are some discounts coming on the V1 VTXs and cameras?
My guess is that they wanted to protect the board and the USB port and the cheapest way to do it was by separating the circuits. Otherwise connecting powered quad to USB may fry both. May be it was last-minute modification to the board after they discovered the issue during testing :) Still very inconvenient.
20x20 thank you caddx. 25 was silly. Those solder pads are to connect to the fc? I was hoping it would let me connect a female USBC port so I could discard the silly data plug
@@ChrisRosser I agree, but I rarely even ever want to fly in the dark. If I needed to theres always the polar. Definitely not switching from DJI for that alone. BTW, I love your 4 new frames that I bought in the last few weeks. I haven't flown them all yet, but I dig the design. The UL7 is Definitely interesting, and I really like the Cine25...great work!
Ian, it does look as if the dynamic range problem that plagued the avatar system for so long is not nearly as pronounced in the video that you showed for this comparison. Is that due to firmware or light conditions during your flights?
Tbh I think it’s the light. It’s hard to show in this time of year as there is less foliage. I thing in bright conditions it’s still going to be there.
Avatar HD Pro states 1080p 120fps…so the walksnail goggles are not able to pick up the 1080p higher frame rate? It automatically changes the resolution instead?
How difficult would it be to DIY that USB cable (new, wider JS side one)? I've recently purchased XI25PPro, with Avatar HD Pro v2 unit inside, from OddityRC. I did not receive that USB-A to JS connector (or whatever it's called) so I could download videos from the Avatar Air Unit (32Gb). Is there any other way of downloading videos, or am I out of luck? What is the exact name of that cable, so I can maybe search some local stores? I've tried contacting OddityRC, but there is no reply since June 16th.
@@MadRC - Thank you! Got in touch with Caddx directly and they pointed me to specific cable which is US$3+ only.. I've ordered 2 just in case and they should be here in about a week and a half. Not sure why OddityRC thinks we won't need this cable, so they're shipping their quads without it.
Unfortunate that DJI is still two steps ahead with their 1080p 100fps transmission modes. 720p or 1080p60 just isn't in the same class. We need to be able to combine these cameras with the O3 system for the perfect set up.
I have now over 12 Walksnail Avatar videos from the last 24 hours all about low light and low latency. Last month I got my first non dji drone just to get a good low light drone (nano evo plus or so) and it paid off in the first moment, but after watching the footage I realised that the big step is the progress in comparison to the past or what DJI had offered even though the footage is barely useable for anything cause too many will complain about the darkness and poor quality compared to any daylight footage. Therefore I had to send the drone back and stay with dji again cause it does not make sense to have a low light drone if the footage is barely useable. But who knows what dji will offer with their next iteration in the fleet.
lower fps is better for low light. 30 fps lets in significantly more light than 60 fps. He was trying to show the O3 at it's best in low light performance. If the walksnail could do 30fps he would have dropped it to that, because it would have been even brighter.
Why oh WHY do they use that darn proprietary USB connector? And every transmitter has a different sized connector than the others? So a person has to keep track of all of them? Good grief. Walksnail - PLEASE just use a usb-c connector. How hard can that be? And while you are at it. How about a micro SD card slot? Why make it SO hard to get video files out of the transmitter?

Wow that starvis camera is amazing! 😍
That starvis sensor is beautiful compared to others... to me anyway
Yeah, it looks even better than their polar cameras for dji

But Ian, when will it record the OSD as seen in the goggles? ( I know, I am late...)
Did you adjust the 03 shutter speed (not frame rate) that makes a huge difference in low light.
Their is no shutter on the O3. You can adjust the Manual setting as I did but your still limited by the Iso and sensor Behaviour.

VTX only according to this ruclips.net/video/IFDkwY1pIjE/видео.html
Is it still necessary to connect the battery to the drone to get the footage?
yes. with every drone on the market right now. yes.
What about overheating? I had to install coolers on my modules to prevent overheating.
No need in good air.

13:35 so this means that to fit the longer camera cable you have to open the unit, no problem but undesirable 😐
