I've listened to Pink Floyd since I was about 8 or 9 and I am, today, 47 years old and I would love to tell you how my feel on them has evolved, .......if I had words. Their music has been a security blanket for me through my life. This is ambiguous music that will hit you differently by your different daily mood. But I feel that that's the true art of their music. I owe them a lot.

The best song ever composed. What you don't really hear on this recording is the crowd singing along. I saw this concert in Vancouver, B.C. and there were 65,000 people in B.C. Place Stadium all singing this song together. An etherial moment in time.

Related to be late at the party... never is too late. In song 'Time' there are a verse:
"And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
    You missed the starting gun"
This verse brearks me each time.

There are sooo many layers to their music. Each time I just focus one one thing, be it each harmonic voice, one person at a time all the way to each instrument, one at a time. And then the whole compilation put together. The frequency of the melody must really meet the vibrations of my soul to make me really connect with them like I do. ❤

A perfect example of how Gilmour's guitar is just an extension of his body. He improvises every guitar solo, and yet his voice matched it perfectly, note for note.

    • @santanamauricio
      @santanamauricio 6 месяцев назад

no he doesn't improvised every guitar solo, he records them in a half improvised worked out way. he learns them then modifies them as need be but always rehearsed, he doesn't play jazz.

    • @cheslerpark7223

some songs are somewhat improvised, but this song is note for note exactly the studio recording. It really is a written piece of music.

One of my brother's favorite bands was Pink Floyd. He had all the albums. As a teen, he got me hooked on their music. My brother was killed in a hit-and-run accident while on his motorcycle two years ago. The day after his funeral, I was in my car when a motorcycle seemingly came from out of nowhere and passed me. It took my breath away. I turned on the radio to calm my nerves, and this song came on -- right at the beginning. I so wish he were here!

One thing to keep in mind is that time has no meaning when it comes to listening to Pink Floyd. 6 minutes, 10, 20, it's all the same. Time warps once the journey begins. This is actually one of their shorter songs but also one of their most iconic. When I saw them perform this live in '88 in Chicago the audience was singing along so loud that it nearly drowned David out completely. To the point he actually stopped singing and let the audience takeover as he played along on guitar. He finally joined back in on the chorus.
    Felt like church.

Pink Floyd flew under my radar too until this last year, I am 64 and now totally hooked ! When at school in 1977 another pupil brought Dark Side Of The Moon in and a track I think it was Money was played during a Music lesson. I thought it was quite good but took it no further. The inexperience of youth. Us and Them and Time are stupendous amongst a lot more. Enjoy like me the belated realisation of how good Pink Floyd are.

Their performances were designed to be immersive. You rarely see the audience act out as one experiences with rock bands. Their audiences appreciate before/after, but do not try to upstage the performance. One of the staggering facts about this tour was the staging and lighting cost 25 million--back in 1994. None of the members ever saw themselves as 'rock stars'--they always believed they were musicians, first.

As the next sound blend into this song they front channels came back on. brilliant. Dave's DB Martin acoustic guitar sold at auction for $ 470,000 along with 120 guitars for $21 million, "The Black" Strat sold for $3.9 million without Dave's Jimi Hendrix guitar strap XXXX Which Jimi wore on July 4, 1970 playing the National Anthem

It just warms my heart to think of the journey ahead as you dig into The Floyd.
Everything you described as the impetus for your channel is embodied in their music. (And fans)
The "Floyd Rabbithole" is real, but refers to the depth of their subject matter as much as their acoustic brillance. Pink Floyd can be seriously profound.
We fans are welcoming and just want new listeners to experience the music, and be moved, as we were, by it.
Floyd fans can get a bit carried away in the comments sometimes... 🤷‍♂️ but know it stems from a true love for the music that we just want to share.
    😉
Looking forward to following your journey.

    This song is too short.
I love it because it always moves me. I'm not a native English speaker, and (in this case) I understand everything without trying to listen to words. It's so nice to just drowns into the music, forgot about everything.
Great reaction (as always) and remember, you're not alone too.

That G minor key though. The lyrics should be sad, but G minor is the key of calm. It confuses the brain. David and Roger are nearly as good at composing as Tuomas (it goes without saying that this is my opinion, mileage may vary 😊).
Poet and the Pendulum uses F♯ Minor (the saddest minor), D Minor (slightly less sad), B♭ Major (Dreamy), and G Minor (calm) for the different sections.

That song is a anti-war song. It is inviting you to the awakened state of crooked humanitarian politics war driven, psychopathic greed driven leaders of our world. It's a song that you can feel the pain The emptiness the coldness the hunger and that yearning for a human understanding. The wall. Animals. Pink Floyd has a very unique way of pushing back against the Wall of indignity and corruption..

I was fortunate enough to see Pink Floyd live twice; once in 1988 and once in 1995 for the Pulse tour. For Pulse I had VIP floor seats. It was absolutely incredible. They had to pick open air venues like football stadiums because of all the lasers. They also had double the equipment with, of course, double the trucks to haul. One group would go to next venue to set up while PF was at current venue. The staging, lasers, lighting, etc took like 2 days to set up. I read about it in the newspaper at the time. Best two concerts of my life. Definitely my favorite band and Gilmour is my favorite guitarist. Unfortunately Richard Wright (gray haired keyboard player) passed away. RIP Richard. RIP Syd.

I saw them in Michigan on this tour, and it was fantastic. Best show I've ever seen. It actually was three state sets and trucks. One tearing down the previous show, one ready to play, and one building up for the next one.

oh crap it was 3 sets of trucks? Sorry, I remembered it wrong. Thanks for clarifying that!

PF is like going to church
You get quiet and introspective and feel the music lastly you think "I need this in my life. I'm not hyping a "god" but a "godly sound". If there is a God he probably has a copy of Dark Side too

Shine on You Crazy Diamond is a must. I'm partial to the live versions, and both Delicate Sound of Thunder and Pulse have great performances. The Pulse version includes the last verse, which is often omitted. And when you understand the back story, you realize just how brilliant the lyrics are.
