Also consider that before the "Virus" argument, he was jacking it while in a call with other people; even for a kid that isn't really normal. I think he was in the beginnings of being terminally online tbh.

The fact that she said she doesn't know why he acts like that while she's actively pushing his buttons tells me he's that way because she has no idea how to talk to ppl, especially not her own kid. Authority as a parent is one thing, but just saying the kid is being rebellious or whatever is just dismissing the problem. Did it ever enter into her mind how far does she want to take this? No, she only backed off after he threatened to call child services. Her way of dealing with her son is to assert her authority, not actually recognize the kid is still a human being that is only following her example.
