Another song in which you should have just listen to the album first. You're listening to old men play music they made in their 20s. Listening to more recent times with Metallica live ain't the way to go. They aren't what they used to be. At least go back some decades when it comes to live.
They brought a lot of us back from the edge. COMPLEX PTSD IS REAL! Watch your veteran friends, watch your veteran family members. Hang with them! Let them know they're not alone!
My husband introduced me to Metallica when we were first started dating 33 years ago. This midwest country girl was blown away then and I still love rocking out to them now. If you really want a Metallica experience that will blow your mind, listen to their songs done in conjunction with the San Francisco Symphony.
What initial songs would you recommend I show people if I'm trying to introduce them? I love pretty much everything Metallica aside from a few obvious album, so it's hard for me to separate good beginner songs. What were some he introduced you to?
@@NYC_Goody I always say fade to black since it isn't too thrashy or heavy, and is my favorite song. Songs like Nothing Else Matters, or Enter Sandman that are popular people generally like aswell.
I would probably have to say nothing else matters first. You want to introduce them to Metallica slowly maybe hit 'em with battery just to show their heavy side.
These talented men are breathtakingly adept at tapping into the terrible darkness of the human experience and turning it into the most hauntingly beautiful music.
I hear ya all the way. Except... this song was written about the time all of their gear, minus their guitars, was stolen. Included was James' favorite Marshall amp that his mom helped him buy. He was heartbroken about it.
Not so fun fact: ya boy had a bit of a fucked up childhood, tried to take my life twice by the time I was graduating middle school. If not for this song specifically I'd have prolly tried even more times. Playing this song gave me an odd comfort, the sorrow I was feeling was soothed by the guitar while the lyrics assured me I was not alone and I could get through it. The aggressive nature of the music is where I put all my violent thoughts and let them flow right out of me. It was the late 80s and early 90s. a lil group in Washington called The parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) was trying to get songs like this and other metal and rap songs banned or at the very least censored. Yet without this song I might not be here commenting on your reaction to it. There's your food for thought for the day Mr OLO. lol. "Blackened" (Not the porn site) is a great song of theirs about the Earth being literally polluted to death. It's kind of long but GOD D@MN do the guitars and drums rock out.
Check out , Until it Sleeps. That’s a good Metallica song. BTW that’s a very Famous Guitar Kirk is playing, It belonged to a couple very Famous musicians, Peter Green and Gary Moore Both have passed Away. It’s a 59 Gibson Les Paul. Kirk payed a Couple Million dollars for it

One thing a lot of people don’t know is that Metallica has meaning behind many of their songs. I think of them as the next generation of Iron Maiden. Iron Maiden put historical value into their songs. Metallica, on the other hand put real life value into their songs. From suicide to drug addiction to cancer. Many of their songs had a meaning and reason behind them. That’s just one of the things that makes them the greatest of all time. The metal band that every one else strives to be like, not as the sound but as in the status of being legendary.
You have realize that you are reacting to the greatest band ever and when reacting to Metallica you are reacting to music ROTALTY🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘….they will blow you away in pure amazement and you have at least 50 bangers from them ahead of you 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘

I am from Portugal and already have seen Metallica four times in life and I hope to see them alive as much as I can... Fade to Black is my favorite music ... there are the BEST 🥰😍🤩🤟🤘
Huge long time Metallica fan here. I feel their first four albums were their best, and my favorite Metallica song of all time is disposable heroes, followed very closely by Master of puppets. I just discovered you and I’m really enjoying your reactions!
Ride the Lightning is a must listen to for new Metallica fans. You should also listen to their older tracks/videos frrom when they were originally released and then compare the performances from the 80s and 90s with ones that are more recent. James sings them completely different. Especially this song.
I've been binge watching your videos tonight! You're bringing much joy to my house tonight. I cut my teeth on this album as a 13 year old guitar novice. First time hearing this song, I’ve listened to them before but when I heard the guitar solo it made me cry, I feel like when I die I would want to listen to it as I look back at my life as I replay all my memories.
Metallica was my introduction to metal back when I was a preteen in the late 80s. I finally after thirty years got to mark them off my bucket list of bands to see in 2018. Bro Metallica is a band that is ten times better live than in the studio and that’s saying something because they’re badass on album. I requested Metallica at my Junior year Homecoming dance in ‘89 at Cupertino High in Cali. They said only if they had a slow song, so I asked them to play this. When it started everyone screamed and rushed the dance floor. Epic night!
that was one of my Metallica favorites from the 80's. I listened to master of puppets and ride ethe lightening albums before school every morning (record player!!))) I's love to see your reaction to the pinnacle Trash album from the 80's... TESTAMENT the Legacy album
Original Metallica Band started out with James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Cliff Burtin(deceased) and Dave Mustaine( started Megadeath when he got kicked out of Metallica)
first time listening to your reaction videos, im a fan.bye the way fan since I first heard( ONE ). was 13 years old been a fan since, 39 years. they keep getting better . thank you
The entire ride the lightning that this is from is a great way for young musicians to go from holding time to real creative expression. You should listen to that studio masterpiece. One hell of an hour.
Old school Metallica played more recently. My favorite band when I was 13/14 years old. "Black" album and beyond not the Metallica I love. "And justice for all" and back only.
You have missed out the the better band ... they have matured and gotten better ... thrash metal died along time ago and James sound so much better now
The tempo change really work well to project the feelings of going through depression and the mood swings it can cause. It's a great track and a hard hitting one if you know.
Check out "Enter Sandman" from Moscow in '91, "Battery" from Seattle in '89 and "One" official music video. You will understand why they are the biggest band ever. The only band to play on EVERY continent. Even Antarctica.
I love all of them of course, even past members like Ron McGovney (orig. bassist), Dave Mustaine (orig. lead guitar and founder of Megadeth), especially Cliff Burton R.I.P. (second bassist), current members, bassist Robert Trujillo, founding members James Hetfield (vocals and rhythm guitar) and Lars Ulrich (drums) but damn! Kirk Hammett is a genius with that lead and soaring solos.
Ride the lightening! Best Metallica album, hands down. but, there's a theme...The entire album is about death in one form or another. Love it or hate it... I think it's amazing.
Metallica took some heat when this song came out because it’s a song about someone not wanting to live and then making that happen but now it’s been recognized by the WHO on International Suicide Prevention Day because of all the people who have said the song has prevented them from doing that.
(This is just written from my own memory). Before I explain this songs back story, please react to One. Make sure that its the official video, it gives alot of depth although the lyrics video would be easier to understand. The official video is probably still better to react to. But this song was made after Metallica got robbed and James lost his favorite guitar amp (alot of sentimental value) and they therefore was considering if they should even keep going since they had lost all of their gear, but luckily they kept going (as said, this is just from my memory so some details can be wrong)
Yes you're right! A roadie stole all their equipment, except Lars drums. The Amp was a gift from his Mom who was dying with cancer, she really couldn't afford it, but did so anyways, as a last gift to her son. So it was very personal & sentimental, beyond just equipment. To this day They've never gotten Any of it back. Heartbreaking!! I've been lucky enough to have seen them in their prime, Master of Puppets dropped around spring time in 1986, I just had my Son and I'd just turned 21. That Album Blew up!!! It was one of my favorite albums, next to "And Justice For All", Unfortunately while touring the Album (Tour Bus accident) they Lost their brother Cliff Burton ( the orginal Bassist) IMO one of the Most Talented bass players with a classical background Ever!! My son was very young (maybe 2 yrs old) when this hit the Radio, Mtv and the news....it was devastating for Metallica and their millions of fans... the bands sound changed a lot withvthe loss of Cliff. In 91' 5 yrs later the Black album dropped, now I loved it, But it was much different than the previous Albums, for some fans actually a lot of fans said itcwas more tame, slower and made more for the radio. They lost the thrash and diversity that they had . But i still Loved them and I thought they evolved and came back from that traumatic Bus Tour Nightmare really well. I was Extremely Lucky & Blessed that i seen them in 91', 92', 93' and 94' on the black album tour with GNR. They were absolutely one of my all time Favorite concerts! In 91' ( while 5 months pregnant, haha) They were 1 of the opening bands for GNR, so Guns n Roses had the full orchestra and Wow!! This was incredible live!! Also James had burnt his hand from a pyrotechnics gone badly a show before, so he couldn't play guitar, I can't remember who filled in...but it was such an Incredible concert!! I definitely cherish that one a smudge more!🎸🤘🎼 Definitely imo Metallica is like fine wine, aged better with time!! Their still Rocking Harder than ever!! 🎼❤️🔥
The light to shade, acoustic to heavy turn was practically invented by Led Zeppelin. Metallica has mastered it too. I like this but definitely the album version from Ride the Lightning is the definitive version. Its a song of despair and suicidal thoughts.
If you didn't know yet, this song was written when they lost one of their original members in an accident, turning a tragedy into a masterpiece. Check out For Whom The Bell Tolls and Justice For All. Keep rocking!
This song was written two years before Cliff passed. It was written at a time when they were down and out and sinking into depression. James has said many times it was about suicide.
@@DanielEvans-ye7cp Nope, James said he wrote it when someone stole their equipment one night when they were in their hotel rooms sleeping. Not that James didn't suffer from depression many times....
Awesome to see Kirk Hammet playing “Greenie” the 1959 Gibson Les Paul. Probably the single most expensive guitar ever, it is rumoured that Kirk payed $4million for it. It’s a guitar made famous by Peter Green from his time with Fleetwood Mac. You need to check out early Fleetwood Mac, let’s say ‘Albatross’ Then the guitar was made even more famous by Gary Moore. You need to check out Gary Moore, especially his blues from the late 80’s and 90’s

Spot on
One of my favorites from Metallica is ...And Justice for All
My favorite Metallica song.
Metallica is loved by the military because lots of their music is sympathetic to their cause. You should check out Indisposable heros
Awesome reaction man 🔥
This will always be my favorite Metallica song.
They're just a really timeless best band of all time forever!#
The light to shade, acoustic to heavy turn was practically invented by Led Zeppelin. Metallica has mastered it too. I like this but definitely the album version from Ride the Lightning is the definitive version. Its a song of despair and suicidal thoughts.
The day that never comes... live
If you didn't know yet, this song was written when they lost one of their original members in an accident, turning a tragedy into a masterpiece. Check out For Whom The Bell Tolls and Justice For All. Keep rocking!
do you mean Cliff? This was written when he was still alive
@@miaitza Correct. I believe the actual sadness was over the loss of musical equipment. Or so the story goes.
Not true
This song was written two years before Cliff passed. It was written at a time when they were down and out and sinking into depression. James has said many times it was about suicide.
@@DanielEvans-ye7cp Nope, James said he wrote it when someone stole their equipment one night when they were in their hotel rooms sleeping. Not that James didn't suffer from depression many times....
I was at that show in Lincoln,NE
This was filmed in Seattle at the Colosseum. I was at this concert
You need to hear the studio version. Need to.
You need to check out early Fleetwood Mac, let’s say ‘Albatross’
Then the guitar was made even more famous by Gary Moore. You need to check out Gary Moore, especially his blues from the late 80’s and 90’s
I heard metallica when i was 9....
Still iam a fan of metallica
