Handy utility knife, would love to know model. Does it work pretty well to harvest several other veggies? I have a set of pruners but they seem to always get rusty. If you cut the head of lettuce as you did, does it grow back again later or do you replant?

It will grow back some, but it usually won't develop another full head.

How do you prevent animals from eating the lettuce?

We have a seasonal wildlife conference with all the nearby animals. They agree to the conditions that if we give them something else to eat, they won't mess with the garden. So far so good.

What about harvesting leaf lettuces? What's the best way? Mine's doing well this year, but I want to cut it and let it regrow.

Just cut the plant a few inches above the soil and it will grow back.
