Oh my god! Baby JD!!! The weirdest part is that he is a year older than me here but he looks 18. Those expressions. Still does the same one. But there's such a youthful energy here. You can tell by his face how much joy this song gives him. Never seen anyone else make that kind of expression. Pure joy!
The only reason I was convinced that that was a younger version of John Darnielle was John's expressions... Just... Do they ever change? Always so somehow filled with emotions, very strong emotions... Passion, and love towards the words, and almost inhuman energy, I'm not sure how to describe it... Is it just me?
Oh goodness this is strange to see now Who is that child singing Mountain Goats' No I Can't? Thank you for your music John. I don't know what I did without it.
Why is that such a bad thing? It's not like he's a "sell out". He still talks with his fans (he responded to one of my tweets!) and genuinely cares about us. I think their popularity hasn't caused him to lose what makes his music so special.
he starts on the (dominant) A chord and resolves to the (tonic) D chord! you can look up the diagrams for those if you don’t already know how to play them. then he takes his middle finger, which is on the second fret of the high E string, picks the second fret note twice, pulls it off to pick the open high E string then hammers it back on to the second fret where it was before, then he pulls it off again to play the open high E string then strums the D chord. i hope this isn’t too confusing, it’s a little hard to explain over youtube comment haha :))
@@jpmcgrath3536 you are literally the best person in the whole universe to me right now thank you thank you thank you thank you when i manage learn to play it i may comment back god bless x
First time I met KRAMER & JOHN S. HALL {KING MISSILE} & BECK at this evening at 'FAST FORWARD' Festival a Night before! This is what it looked like. Later that night, Beck had prepared a joint and we, Kramer, Beck & myself smoked it; I think Kramer had two chicken pussies with him, which also consumed a bit. ....a truly extraordinary experience! cheers, Greg by the way exists recordings of Kramer with John S. Hall ?!
I'd post the link, but RUclips doesn't like us doing that. It's entirely possible he could be lying, but John posted in the official forums in a thread titled "Timeline of drug abuse by JD?" and said he was clean by '89.
"I think we have a more post-punk take on performance, right? A consciousness of what it is to perform..." Anyone got any idea on how far back this RIGHT? vocal tic goes? I mean not for JD but in general? Is this a west coast thing?
"I don't think a career in music is any way to live". Way to be, John.
Rachel took the hint
"the future looks bright for the Mountain Goats" ♥

Ha
Yeah
john looks so young here, but by my maths he was 28. i love these old recordings. especially seeing rachel rather than just hearing her voice!
Young John Darnielle looks like a Mormon missionary
I can't unsee it now!
I mean Old Darnielle looks like a high school principal. He's still an absolute legend!
We truly need so little.
I wasn't even born when this was recorded?? He looks so young!
TheYambo121
All in its own time
My parents were only 14 years old when this was recorded! :)
i was a month old haha
WHAT
ITS BABY JOHN DARNIELLE
HES SO YOUNG
Oh my god

You are not alone. He's incredibly emotive.
I love every tMG song Rachel was a part of. Raid on Entebbe is my personal favorite.
That was the first mg song I had ever heard! From yo yo a go go
Holy shit I love this band so god damn much.
One of my favorite early MG tracks is No, I can’t so it’s awesome to see such an early performance of it
I love how he mentioned the dual cassette heads on the Panasonic DX-500 on this one
It's crazy how little is voice has changed over the past 25 years
young JD's jawline is incredible
Oh goodness this is strange to see now
Who is that child singing Mountain Goats' No I Can't?
Thank you for your music John. I don't know what I did without it.
He looks so young!
interesting to hear him say he couldn't live like musicians do... he tours constantly these days!
Records and compact disks as well as the future seems bright for the mountain goats is the best way to describe this
this is my favourite video ever

I love them, and this is so great to see them so young. I wasn't even born until like a year after this was done.
now i have everything i need..
This is great, I want to see more videos of tMG in the 90's!
i can't stop watching this!
I love this so much I could die.
Thank you so much for posting this!
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this!! ❤️
This is great!
This is amazing
Soooo coooool! thanks for the upload!
he was so handsome awh aha
He became much more articulate and charismatic as he aged
Ahh hey my dad helped set up Fast Forward! He told me he helped book the Mountain Goats and I was like :0
so in love!
fantastic.
He looks like a teenager. It's been so long!!
is he wearing his denim jacket collar turned... in? is that a thing???
I like it
It's a thing now!
wow his is just fantastic. to have been one of the people in that crowd would have been amazing. -julian

Yes!!!
I want to be like him... Or at least meet him. Only then I will have everything I need
damn. this is wild
1992-1995, listen to Sinaloan Snake Song and really anything off of The Hound Chronicles
There's a ton of great music from before 2000
Woah, he looks so nerdy when he sings.
I fucking love it.
@mqKrem He never tried to live as a musician, though. From interviews, it sounds like he was sort of pained to leave his job and tour year-round.
Awwwwwwwgawsh!
Rachel
I miss Rachel so much 😭
i hope we atleast get a cameo from her again one day
Whoever disliked this has no soul
I can't tell how many soulless people there are anymore...
Oh Young JD. :)
itty bitty
tag yourself i'm the starfish
I love that he says apple, but then switches back to books :)
oh em eff geeeeeee
i love john darnielle, he's the best kind of spaz. :D

thank yoooou
This is from '95. JD was clean before the 80s were done.
First time I met KRAMER &

by the way exists recordings of Kramer with John S. Hall ?!
this last song would have fit in on In League With Dragons. Do it like Younger.
Travis Carroll JD said that’s why it’s called Younger, cause it’s based off this riff he wrote when he was younger
When was tMG a five piece? (Or was that irony as well...)
ieetsababies
The bright mountain choir used to do all backup vocals then Rachel and John went off on their own (probably as a couple by that point)
What type of bass is she using?
6 years late but it looks like a Danelectro DC Cooper, or similar
2:20 but it's good work if you can get it
A young JD is weird to see
I'd post the link, but RUclips doesn't like us doing that. It's entirely possible he could be lying, but John posted in the official forums in a thread titled "Timeline of drug abuse by JD?" and said he was clean by '89.
theyre 'closed' or broken really, you cannot join them and no one can post in them but the forums still exist
This is 90s as fuhhhh
Those kids might just be going somewhere.
Why's that?
John Sure does get elated 6:10 - 6:15
"I think we have a more post-punk take on performance, right? A consciousness of what it is to perform..."
Anyone got any idea on how far back this RIGHT? vocal tic goes? I mean not for JD but in general? Is this a west coast thing?
Are you very sure? He is a really intense person, I'll be honest maybe it was a hasty call on my part.
:')
Wat a BOUNCH OOF HIPPYS
nerd
He’s so skinny!
2:46 lol almost sounded like he said nothing for jews
What the heck happened LOL
John is tweaking so hard! Glad he got clean.
shidoink
Actually he was 100% clean before ever starting the mountain goats (except alcohol)
He looks creepily like the MAGA hat kid
