  • My sound test/demo song for Peavey 6505+ amp.
    Name of the demo song: Depression & Hate;
    I play the Sivcak BW7GS guitar (my signature model that I have designed) here straight to an amp. The amp is plugged into the Engl XXL 4x12 (V30s) cab and the sound is recorded with Audix i5 microphone. No post-processing used on a guitar sound, but the high pass filter, delay on leads and a clean channel.
    If you like my sound and need anything in music production (from recording to mixing & mastering) or you need a guest musician on your record, just hit me.
    If you like my stuff, please subscribe to my channel.
    Any support will be much appreciated.
    Demo song written by/all music recorded & drums programmed by/mixed & mastered by me, myself & I.

    Cleans are not bad at all. A little bit tame compared to other tube amps' cleans, but I love my 5150. It sounds heavy as fuck and I don't even need an overdrive or distortion pedal to use it with since it's got plenty of gain and tight low end.

    Hi !
    nice demo, i like the sound, very moderne an pro.
    How did you mic it ? Straight on the edge of the dust cap, close to the grid as most do ? The chain is an Audix i5 and then what's the preamp used ? How many track and how are they panned ?
    Cheers.

    • @BrianBajak
      @BrianBajak  8 лет назад

      +dafxtone Hey man! Many thanks! Had to think a little now :)
      i5 is pointing straight on the edge of the dust cap. Mic is not as close to the grid as possible, it is about inch or maybe a little less from the grill (so that I could insert my palm between the mic and grill).
      Guitar is plugged in to the amp, no TS or anything. Mic (Audix i5) goes in the Tascam preamp, then into the audio device (Echo FireWire).
      2 tracks panned hard left and hard right. Where the solo riff is played (turning the knobs part), there's only one track in the centre.

    • @dafxtone
      @dafxtone 8 лет назад

      +Brian Bajak Great answer, a lot of details, thanks a lot :) I found the I5 really interesting as an alternativ to my SM57, i may dig that ! Wha'ts your opinion on the I5 vs SM57 ? Cheers !

    • @BrianBajak
      @BrianBajak  8 лет назад +1

      +dafxtone I think SM57 is still a good mic, good standard, still like it and I also like to combine those 2 mics in recordings. If you have time, check this vid from 0:44: ruclips.net/video/VcJg7l7NpGg/видео.html ;)

    Man killer tone..what delay are you using that works best for the 6505+ FX loop..?
    Digital or analogue?

    • @BrianBajak
      @BrianBajak  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hey, thank you! I don't have a long term experience with this amp unfortunately, but usually my first to go delay is Ibanez DE7 or some by T-Rex. It actually crucially depends on the amp FX loop quality.
      For post production purposes I use stock Cubase Stereo Delay or Fabfilter Timeless.

      that dual lead? - just the two leads playing at once (first one recorded beforehand). hope this is what you mean :)

    • @Satanicwar7
      @Satanicwar7 8 лет назад

      Yes! for some reason I always thought that dual sound came from a pedal/effects processor. Thanks!

    • @BrianBajak
      @BrianBajak  8 лет назад

      There are actually pedals/effects that can add a harmony to your lead, but it is never like when two guitars play it - and you can also experiment with a lot of changes in harmony, effect will probably keep you in a set interval within the set scale (anyway, it can also be fine).

  • @GuitarsAndSynths

    Sounds good did you use an EQ pedal and if so how did you set that up with your amp? I have one as well.

    • @BrianBajak
      @BrianBajak  5 лет назад

      Hey! Thank you! No EQ pedal used, just HP filter in the mixing process (to make a room for bass and kick). From what I remember, I have spent some time to place the microphone and to dial the amp till I decided to record.

  • @ardalansh9392

    Sounds like old school machine head. I've been looking at getting the EVH 5150 but it's a little too pricey for me. Do you think this amp would do well for a guy who mostly plays 80s thrash metal? I play more rhythm than lead and I like a nice tight, chunk rhythm sound that stays saturated when you palm mute. THoughts?

    • @BrianBajak
      @BrianBajak  8 лет назад

      I'm all old school, thank you! :D I believe this amp would do the job for you, but I can't tell what is your taste - whether you would like it or not. I like to use less gain for riffing. On EVH 5150, there is just a crunch channel good enough for riffing. EVH is less dirty I think... If you have time, check my EVH 5150 III (50W version) test here: ruclips.net/video/62wpMLc4YTo/видео.html
      Anyway, I think the base of the sound is in the cab. That is also a reason why I am trying to perform all these tests on the same cab (and possibly using a same mic).
      P.S.
      love 80s thrash metal!

  • @coping34343
    @coping34343 8 лет назад

    I noticed you have the post gain pretty high up. Isn't that shattering your ears in there or are you using an attenuator?

    • @BrianBajak
      @BrianBajak  8 лет назад

      +coping34343, you are right about taking care of our ears! To be honest, if I want to get some kind of sound, I have to crank the power tubes up (that's the way i like it). Normally, I am using ear plugs or I have the cab miced up in a different room.

    one important question i really need an answer to haha this would determine whether i buy the 6505 mh or this 120 watt one, so the problem is volume. how could i bring this down to a volume tolerable for bedroom playing without sacrificing tone

    • @BrianBajak
      @BrianBajak  8 лет назад +1

      If volume is a problem, I would definitely go for mh version, and also trying a 1x12 speaker helps (besides that the MH can be switched from 20W to 5W and 1W). You can also use a big 120W amp in the bedroom with attenuator, but good attenuators can be pricey.

  • @gregoryduvall4758
    @gregoryduvall4758 7 лет назад

    nice vid... I bought the 6505 Plus and I am not happy with the sound at all, do you know what preamp and power tubes you are using? maybe it's my cab I'm playing a Mesa oversized rectifier cab with vintage 30s

    • @BrianBajak
      @BrianBajak  7 лет назад

      Hey man! Preamp: 6 x 12AX7s, Power amp: 4 x 6L6s. This amp was borrowed just for a while (just to make this video), so I don't know whether the tubes were original or replaced.
      It is pitty to hear you have this problem. Mesa cabs are one of the best from my experience. Are all the cables (also from head to cab) alright? Don't you use something in the FX loop that affects the sound strongly in a bad way or do your effects (if any) have the best possible power supply? Maybe you could try to get some specialist to take a look at it...

    • @BrianBajak

    • @BrianBajak
      @BrianBajak  7 лет назад

      jdssurf That is one thing I really lack, clean channel is not too clean, you need to have gain very low, and ideally you could use a single coil instead of humbucker. Regarding gigging, it should be ok for that purpose. I would use it live with no fear, but again, personal taste matters.

    • @BrianBajak
      @BrianBajak  7 лет назад

      Aaaargh! I'm sorry, I've read it early morning my time, so took "vs" as "is" :D my bad...
      Well, I didn't have them both at once, but my tests of these amps are done on a same cab and with the same mic, so you should hear the main differences of the amps (and not of the cabs or mics).
      If I could, I would have both of them (and maybe soon, I will :D ),
      but so far - I was looking recently for a 20W amp, and I was choosing between the 5150 LBX and 6505 Mini Head. Due to some reasons (mids I like and mostly due to the more outputs/options on a back panel) I decided to go for Mini Head... But still, after I buy it, the 5150 will remain on my wish list.

      Brian Bajak no probs lol. Rn i have a bugera 6262 infinium but despite its good tone, it just doesnt have that metal edge im looking for. I just need an amp that can produce a crushing metal tone and can give me some good dimebag tones as well. Lots of output with the ability to produce easy squeels.
