this game crushed so many kids back in the day and he made it look like a cake walk. bravo
This guy is a beast! He played so many games this year at AGDQ.
+caillet14 he became my favorite speedrunner after this AGDQ
+caillet14 can you tell me wich games please? thanks in advance :)
+William Rosado Martínez (WillyGauss) Sorry I didn't make a list, just giving you the advice to look up "TheMexicanRunner Awesome Games Done Quick 2016". I saw a lot of his run when I watched live.
Linx
Thanks a lot man!
Hearing a guy who can basically beat Battletoads with his toes say "if I get hit I might die" tells you more than enough how much of a struggle this game was back in the 90's
Great speedrunner and entertainer.
It's one thing to be godlike at a game, but also make people smile at the same time is just amazing.
Hats off to you TMR!
oh gawd. i can never get past the "i can't wait to be king" stage as a kid. never did comprehend how the monkeys work. and when i did get lucky getting past that, the ostrich part got my head scratching.
after watching this whole run, i'm convinced this game ain't for kids...
+Bakalar The ostrich part was indeed confusing for me too, but I managed to beat the game after a while back then.
I could never beat the stampede stage; could never get the timing of the rock jumping correct. That's as far as I ever got.
I beat Zelda a Link to the Past and Super Star Wars, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country and Warcraft 3 when i was from 5-6 but i could not beat this game when i was maybe 1-2 years older, neither could i beat that Asterix and Obelix game on SNES... all those games had such insta deaths...
I could beat it at 8 years old and even measured my fastest time, which was 18:23. Wonder if I should get a MegaDrive (Genesis) again to brush up and try my hand at an official speedrun
i beated this game as a kid now at 26 years old replaying it i'm asking myself how the fuck did i pull this shit off at 8 age.
I loved the singing part ! Also a great game
Awesome runner and commentary. Talks the whole time explaining everything as he does it. And sang a song! What a great job
I was not expecting Simba's attacks to be so... Discovery Channel. It's brutal and I love it.
tmr sounds so nervous. Props to him for being brave enough to do this anyway.
I don't think he sounded nervous, I think he did an excellent job.
just his accent
12:05 for Hakuna Matata tmrShark
Always good to see TMR doing some runs, he's a really entertaining and cool guy. Easily one of my top speedrunners.
Props to him!
I remember playing this game on our SNES with my brother. Good ol' days.
First time I watch TheMexicanRunner and I was really sceptical when they set everything up.
But he is suprisingly entertaining to watch and listent to
This TMR guy has just hilarious deadpan commentary! Very cool guy!
12:11 that was awesome haha
+Jonas Ferreira (darkfire) Best part :D
TMR is an incredible runner and seems like a genuinely cool person. That Hakuna Matata bit was beautiful, to have the courage to sing like that in front of an audience even though he's obviously not a singer. Just having fun, this is what it's all about.
Up Down Up Up Down Double Up Down Down Up Double Up. I will remember this forever.
That was fun. No shame on singing and everyone said hakuna matata in a chorus.
Fun gamer community
TMR is the man. He speedruns, he beats hard games, and he freaking sings at AGDQ! No mames!
Considering his English isnt amazing, his commentary is.
It's called The Mexican Runner, he just speaks english like a Mexican
@@LeonMakoto No he has mostly an eastern european accent instead of mexican, that's because he lives in Poland
@@hidude1130 if he's Polish then why isn't he wearing a training jacket?
Your logic makes no sense
@@DutchDouchebag Well that's a mighty fine question good sir
@@DutchDouchebag Hey Trony, his mother is Polish, his father mexican, he lives in Poland
Crowd-work was absolutely fantastic. This guy rocks.
What a delight to watch. This guy is awesome :)
As a kid the furthest I ever got after dozens of hours was the Hakuna Matata level. I just came back to this game and figured as an adult with sick gaming skillz I can finally see the rest of the game. Nope, I died 9 times in level 2 on "easy." Forget Dark Souls, retro games were HARD.
This game was a pillar stone in my childhood. I never made it past the 5th level. I would collect as many lives as I could, reach that level and fail the very long jump at the end every time until game over. It is so lovely to see a full playthrough of it now. Thank you.
No shame singing ftw!
Great job man, this game was always the bane of my childhood. also great commentary
Great speed run :) nice commentary too, damn I was 12 when this game came out, loved it
Poor guy seemed a bit nervous, but he did a fantastic job!
You go, TheMexicanRunnter. That Hakuna Matata part was great :D
TMR is awesome! If you don't know he is doing a project called NESmania where he beats every NES game.
"This is a new trick that's just been discovered"
[does a skip I discovered as a child]
Me: :O !!
In adult form, if you hang off a ledge with a cheetah close enough to your front paws, it dies as if you were sitting on it and slashing it.
Those damn pink monkeys. I rented this game and never got past ‘em.
(Was not a patient kid)
Another great, nah beautiful.
Run featuring, yet another lovely runner and commentary
TMR has become one of my favorite streamers
Hakuna Matata!
I rented this cartridge once as a kid. Never made it past the first level.
This is like one of the hardest freaking platformers.. how did kids even beat this???
Glad to see a spanish-talking runner on GDQ, and playing one of the first games of my life, kinda makes me want to get into speedrunning
My god, I remember playing this as a kid, probably one of my first ones. On a pc as well, must have been a port... I had forgotten about it until I saw him play it this year. Never did make it past the elephant graveyard though, I think, because the rest looks new.
This is the hardest game I've ever played.
YOOOOOO THE CROWD SOUNDED BEAUTIFUL AT 12:36
THAT WAS SO GOOD WHAT THE HELL
I think I got to the stampede once...this game was insanely hard!
voice of an angel bruh! lol
Gotta love TMR.
Never heard Hakuna Matata in Spanish before. Nice.
8:16 The guy behind waited for anyone to clap before him. Genius!
By far my hardest game to beat as a kid. That was my happiest moment when I beat it.
As an adult I still can't beat level 2. It makes me angry.
I used to play this a lot at my cousins house and I think I made it to the elephant grave yard just once lol
i remember playing this on Genesis as a kid ;.; memories
Looking back, once I got past level two and three, it seemed like the rest of the game wasn't so bad. Level two is a random puzzle and you're supposed to figure out to growl at the pink monkeys. Keep in mind this was before the days of just being able to go on the internet and get the answer to everything. Then in level three they make you fight those hyenas as a vulnerable young Simba, whereas in the rest of the game you can just run away from enemies.
This guy is great!
I never got into this stuff, but this guy makes me want to!
This game take from me months to end when I was a kid
Great commentary
hands down most fun part of the game is when you're running in the canyon trying to avoid the horse things.
I enjoyed his singing Hakuna Matata in Spanish.
That spanish Hakuna Matata was beautiful, but when everybody sang in chorus "Hakuna matata", bro, I had chills down my spine
He has a pretty cool accent while talking... Also the Disney Block seems like it was full of singing :P
I'm 32 years old and I've never seen this game past the second level...
Here in Spain the lyrics of Hakuna Matata are a little different. It says:
Hakuna Matata, vive y deja vivir
Hakuna Matata, vive y sé feliz
Ningún problema debe hacerte sufrir
Lo más fácil es saber decir
Hakuna Matata
It sounds... a little weird in American Spanish version. Not bad, but weird.
his "american spanish" is "mexican spanish"
0011thhour Well, Mexico is part of America, am I right?
+MacPingas Indeed, but America has many Spanish talking countries, all with very different Spanish meanings and ways of talking. Thr straw that is used to drink has 11 different forms of being called all over America. And this is only one word, imagine the entire language. Context can be easily misunderstood when in a foreing Spanish speaking country even in the same America. So what the other guy tried to say is that the term American Spanish is not really defined as correct.
+MacPingas you serious? take some geography lessons. theres a border south of texas that blocks mexico from this country. it has nothing to do with this country. its part of the continent and thats it.
0011thhour Well, the name of the continent is America, right? America is more than USA and Canada.
god this game was a nightmare for me when I was a kid
Am I the only one who loves how he rolls his R's?
Creepy hoo hah is still my favorite track.
What a cool guy!
Man, I remember beating all the levels eventually as a kid but I had to use the level skip code on account of all the dieing.
I used to beat the crap out of this game as a 5 year old kid.
Oh wow, this brings back memories!
I believe i still got the game on floppy disk somewhere, just like jungle book and earthworm jim ;)
Edit: lmao i didnt know you could roar to influence the monkeys!
26 years it took for me to find that out, and i didn't even find it out myself -_-'
omg i used to hate this game and love it at the same time
This has to be one of the funniest runs in existence
Hakuna matata
Una forma de ser (8)
I had Lion King on genesis and that second level was a pain
Wow, a not broken game xD
First one I've seen, let's see how long it will stay that way lol
His accent is like russian accent :P
+Byanca \o No, it's Mexican. As his name implies..
His mother is Polish, maybe that explains things.
I have cousins that speak like him. Not uncommon lol. TMR IS A BEAST!!!!
He is half Polish, half Mexican
@@pejnismiggle He doesn't have a mexican accent, it's more eastern european than mexican, i'm from Mexico though
love you buddy
All man, I could never pass the second level of the game, whether I got to the ostrich part, I die every single time. Anytime the icons shows me to jump, but I kept dying and dying even when I jump.
What are the biggest differences between SNES and Genesis versions of this game?
+Linkenfant The SNES version has a better color palette and overall better sound quality. I feel like the Genesis version, despite that, actually has a better beat with its songs, like a less is more kind of thing. Also, I've noticed a few of the ledge grabs are more forgiving on Genesis. Aside from that, they're pretty much identical.
+Linkenfant The difference? The SNES version is inferior. That's what.
George Bush is a Reptilian shapeshifter
Yes.
@@ShawnKemp37 It's because he got the health upgrade in the first level
This guy is a riot!!!xDDD
I never complete this game, its was so hard 🙃
Damn, is there anyone who finished the game on original console? I played it on Sega.
I think I got to level 3 but damn this game is hard.
Even on the emulator with the saves it'd take a lot of time to figure out everything by yourself.
The entire game is SO frustrating.
NO MEMES~!
Which mode of difficulty ?
The 2nd level was easy for me. I was stuck for years on that fucking Hakuna Matata level with them fucking waterfall logs!
I got past the 2nd level 1 time
Why play the inferior version?
He's playing the superior version.
MncDssctn Lol not even close
Sega Genesis roms were way less stable than SNES roms at the time that this was uploaded.
damn, beat the shit out of scar.
So much speech in the game, and then in the final level they use an Atari noise for the thunder and destroy the atmosphere :D
Hakuna matata!
Bonitinho, só que e very easy.
Bullshit. This aint hard mode. U cant fool me i know for a fact this dude didnt switch it to hard mode. He went to options backed out before switching and reset console. Then did countdown without going to options to switch. This is NORMAL MODE.
One thing I've always disliked about this port was the sound compared to the Mega Drive version. Good run and great singing though :)
Komu się nie chcialo oglądać u Gimpera i przeszedł na speedruna? ;v
Viva México !!!!,!
Viva Mexico and Poland
