I think the best time to get out to Trona is late Feb to early March. April can get really hot, etc. if you hit the timing wrong - and it pretty much stays hot with daytime highs in the 90's - 100's through October. Another good option would be to go early December. Regarding the road up to Piute (it was a really dry year, we got lucky). That road could be snowed in very easily in February. Thanks again for the comment! I really appreciate it! 😀

I know. So sad. 😫 We’ve got some decent rain coming through this weekend, hoping that helps make a dent in the fires! 🙏🏼

@@TrailNewbie ya it rained there and snowed in some places. We need it. Many places around buck rock and va.p Nelson are but. I was up at dinky creek area helping the forest rangers and it was burned up too. . My poor city was full of smoke for about a week from the sequoia and kings fire. . We are headed this weekend to the trona pinnacles. It will be our first time .

STOP FLYING DRONES in these areas!!! It’s prohibited to fly drones in these areas regardless if it’s for commercial use or not.

Hi! Thank you for your concern. Protecting our National Forests and BLM lands is priority one! I think you might be thinking about designated wilderness areas where drones are prohibited due to being classed as “motorized equipment” as well as National Parks (plus areas managed by the National Park Service). Any and all drone flying here is recreational allowed per guidance from the USDA regarding National Forests. Here is a decent guide: www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprd3846515.pdf and/or in land managed by the Bureau of Land Management where drone flying is permitted except in designated archeological areas I believe. I appreciate the feedback! It caused me to pause and refresh my knowledge on this topic to be sure that we weren’t violating any laws or rules.

INCREDIBLE video! You really capture the beauty and wonder of this region. Some of my most favorite places in the world. So much so, I moved out of full-time vanlife and settled here. At least for the present. LOL. The gypsy in me wants to explore longer and deeper in this area everyday! Thank you!
