Takeda Sensei is perhaps the most senior student of Yamaguchi Seigo, one of the post war legendary teachers of Aikido. The guy didn't get his eighth dan for nothing. I would recommend that, before you sit there and criticize a teacher whom you have never put your hands on, it would be a good idea to base it on some direct experience.
I agree with you coredor. This students suffer on a typical Aikido uke illness, as I call it, practising Aikido +30 years now. After the years it can become as this result when attacking the sensei and always being aware of getting thrown. Do not hesitate to grab sensei really hard. But be aware there is the same result though.
@coredor Actually the students don't fall because they are trained to sense the sensei's instruction to throw. The sensei is trained to control the student's intention. It was done on me once - a very strange feeling. But I understand you. I would'nt believe either if I wouldn't have personal experience.
Nice stuff. Shihan just wanna show Aikido in a soft way but doesn't mean it isn't working. If really want to apply Aikido in real fight, I think should be like this.
@cesarvilla7681 Some of these ukes are staying ahead of the pain. When it doesn't come they are still expecting it. That's what makes a good Uke. You can do what you want to them. They stay ahead by 1/4 to a 1/2 second of a smacking/cut or joint-lock. A "falling leaf" ukemi, an attacking entry while being thrown out in fast motion can look like an over reaction, fake. Ukemi is an Olympic discipline by itself.
I'm sorry but they are only falling because they have been trained to fall when they sense his intention to throw. It doesn't do the thrower any service as he doesn't get a chance to really show what he can do. At 1:20 the uke hardly knows what to do, as he misinterpreted his teachers movement and ended up doing a funny hop to try and cover. Entertaining but not a good demo of aikido IMHO.
That's really bad for Aikido in General to show this kind of video, after that people don't take Aikido seriously and criticise it easilly. The idea of no touching but controlling the UKE is really bad, and is a none sens. He is maybe a 8th Dan, but he should think that wind don't come from his hands !!!!!
you do not know of what you speak none at all try to grab Takeda Sensei just once or even his senior students, I challenge you, bigmouthlet's see who's fake then
this is a fake, I also study aikido, but the style like this is really non sense... ki is not working in this "magic" stuff like this.. I wonder if they face a real fight by doing fake thing such as performed in this video...
You think they don’t understand that? You think Takeda sensei believes he can throw people without touching? You think they believe this is effective in a fight? Takeda sensei used to train « normally » and he was very good at it. but he chose to study this way. That’s his choice. He’s not trying to convince anybody that this is effective in a fight. People like Steven Seagal tried to convince that aikido is useful in a fight, that’s why it was so popular before and when people realized aikido is not what they expected they stopped. And now there’s a huge bashing on aïkido. But you’re the one mistaking. What Takeda is doing is one style. I don’t like it but it’s one style. This is not kakutogi or combat, it’s Aikido. When you look at Kyudo, do you say that it’s not effective because now we have guns? And naginata? And kendo? It’s exactly the same… I started aikido at 13, first time I saw it, I understood this is not for fighting. How old are you?

May be, but there are too much complicity of ukes
Thanks for the video and thanks for this beautiful expression of spirit.

Muito bom!
If I was considering aikido as a martial art and I saw this @1:20 to 1:30 I would certainly go elsewhere!
Though I'm an aikidoka, I understand you.

This kind of practice is valid, but it is harming aikido perception among non practitioners.
Expelli Armus!!
