L.A.S. (Listening and Sounding) is an enterprise embarked on by Piotr Damasiewicz. It is an initiative that supports the promotion of music and art through concerts and recordings with the audience participating, simultaneously creating a unique experience along with the listeners. It is an opportunity to not only be a witness to the creation of an album, but to collaborate in it's creation through active participation in sessions, concerts and meetings. L.A.S predominantly publishes high quality vinyl records, as well as CD releases. Our vinyl records are pressed by the German Pallas Group, which is already legendary all around the world. As a result, our records are of the highest quality and technically flawless.
The records are decorated with unique inserts and an envelope with the album manifesto printed in 66 languages. This manifesto is at the heart of the production; six sentences unified by the combination of the three letters L.A.S. These sentences are: listening and sounding, looking and seeing, learning and surviving, living and synchronising, Liberty and Synergy, Love and Stream. Through them, the author emphasizes the essence of L.A.S and expresses the musical path that he follows. Inserts are made in the form of a postcard with the idea that you can give a tangible part of yourself to someone special to you.
The album 'Spiwle' was recorded in the atmospheric highlander house located in Spiwle, which is a road on the side of the Miduszyna mountain in Sucha Beskidzka. It's a place where Piotr has been coming for over a dozen years, playing and contemplating nature in the company of his friends whilst delving into the native tradition. The album's creation was overseen by the excellent Polish producer and musician Marcin Bors and his assistants Maciej Stch and Piotr Kalwak. In accordance with the L.A.S philosophy, the album was recorded live, with the musicians having many opportunities to embrace the native folklore tradition. Excellent local piper Jan Ryt was invited to the recording, where he emphasized the 'roots' dimension of the album by playing the title track 'Spiwle'.
Ethnicity, improvisation, jazz, melody, indigenous feeling and groove along with free, natural expression constitute the definition of the Piotr Damasiewicz Ethno Trio. The trio, which is a collaboration of Polish, African and Norwegian travel experiences, was founded in Norway. "We went to break away from the hustle and bustle of the city. As fate had it, there ended up being three of us with the same mutual fascination for ethnicity and improvisation." Grasping this rare opportunity, they met in a small hut amongst the fjords to make music in this pastoral atmosphere. The mountain climate filled with the sound of shepherd's bells, the bleating of sheep and the howling wind all made its way into the music. Facilitated by Monika Cichocka- a promoter and lover of exceptional artistic meetings- the trio played a concert in the Stavanger fjords situated by the North Sea. This concert was the beginning of a newly emerging collective. The music presented by the trio was inspired by the common experiences the musicians had gathered in Norway, Africa- in Morocco and Tanzania- and the Polish mountains. The harsh Norwegian climate as well as the intensity of living within the local beautiful, unique and raw nature stimulated an energetic groove and total freedom of expression.
