This is probably one of the episodes that Micheal J Fox was filming while he was doing Back to the future. I mean Doc did mention going back to 1776. Probably a nod to this episode. And alexs mom in 1776 did say that alex was a nice name just as Lorraine said that marty was too.
man.. i guess doc did accidentally activate the time circuits when he said "Say, you wanna see the signing of the Declaration of Independence..." *Doc types in July 4th 1776*
MJF is a gifted talented actor. I wonder if he worked so hard so that he wouldn't pass off the opportunities should something happen that could cut off his career. Same thing happened to Annette Funicello - she was fortunate to have a great career for such a long time and then she got "MS." I realized she was older but it seems good fortune comes at a cost to those that are genuinely kind and gifted individuals. It makes me sad.
i find it funny that Michael J Fox would star in Back To The Future 7 months later after this episode and in this episode his character Alex Keaton goes back in time to 1776 Philadelphia
One of my all time favorite episodes, not just of Family Ties, but of any sitcom....btw, I'm surprised the anti American mob haven't come after this too. I hope it stays under the radar.
@@gaynorpatterson2915 Probably like a primitive form of white out. I don't even know if they had erasers back then since there weren't even pens, people wrote with a sharp quill feather.
I think I recall hearing at some point that they kept a fine white sand to sprinkle onto typos while the ink was still wet. Yep, early forerunner to White Out.
The appetizer before the entree that was Back to the Future!

This episode air on Antenna TV in the wake of Back to the Future day. It's eerie how many parallels there are to the movie in this story.
You got it backwards they did this episode after BTTF was already in production.
And "Back To the Future" was released on July 3, 1985, just one day before the 4th.
@@crepesoftime I was wondering if anyone in the world would notice that. He says July 3rd twice.
I need the next part! "We hold these truths to be Pretty Darn Clear" :)
Obvious even to a big dope!
Yup - and the crinkly brown paper. One of the funniest episodes of any show ever.

Skippy WOULD ruin the Liberty Bell! lmao!
The guy who played John Hancock was in Mask in 1985 with Eric Stoltz, the original Marty McFly.
So Marty McFly did time travel before he met Doc! Great Scott!
3rd April '23
What's he sprinkling on the paper at 0:48?
I wondered the same thing. I thought it might be like a white out or an eraser thingy. Lol

Damn it, McFly! This isn't "Back to the Future"; why are you in 1776?
Because the writers of Family ties asked michael j fox whay his movie was about
PRAYER’S ARE BEING SENT TO MICHAEL J. FOX ❤
Alternate Republican Marty travelling in the 1770s.
and this is b4 MJF went back to the future
The movie was in post production when this 1st aired
Skippy: I live next door to the Jeffersons
So he knows how many children Thomas Jefferson has
1:49 - Alex (Michael J. Fox) is yelling to Skippy (Marc Price)
