H-pipe or X-pipe? What do you like more?
X, H isn't functional at higher RPM. Function > Sound, luckily it sounds better as well though so you don't have to make the sacrifice.
H... sounds a bit deeper and less like there's an aftermarket part on the car.
H. Better sound and a better "overall" power curve. X is better for a peak curve.
I like the H pipe's mellow tone vs the X pipe's raspy tone.
H, sounds like a Mustang should
I'm a "American Muscle" guy, so the H pipe sound of course.
Preach! -Justin
Hey, I’m an American Muscle guy and I usually prefer x pipes. In this instance though the h sounds nicer, at least on video. Plus I will put my 99 GT with SLP long tubes, SLP x pipe and Violator cat back up against anything in a sound contest. You really have to hear it to believe it!!! Everywhere I go people ask what kind of motor is in that car?
Allan Nicholas: You have a RUclips, why don't you make a video of your exhaust?
Allan Nichols my 02GT was the only mustang i too preferred a x pipe. Must be a sohc v.8 thing.
No crossover sounds even better.
Far better sound IMO than x-pipe. It's a deeper tone with the H where as the X is a higher tone
Jeremy Winslow In my opinion X pipes sound good on very small high rpm v8s.
I’m with you Justin....H pipe all day long, gotta have that deep sound, reminds me more of the original Muscle Car ❤️
Love the deeper tone of the H pipe! It will be my first mod!!
I remember when X-pipes used to sound good, but that was on the 4.6L V8... now they’re so raspy they’re just noise without any tone. H-pipe is the winner hands down.

I love Mustangs but it's not all about which has the most sales.
Thanks to american muscle for putting out all that awesome content over the years. I absolutely love this channel. Keep up the good work.
owning a mustang is so much fun with you guys mr justin .i love american muscle man
shopping mods for your car can't be easier than this ,awesome website ,each product have its own demo videos ,thousands of customer photos ,what more can you ask
just installed this h pipe to my 2020 gt with active exhaust, it sounds so much better and louder to the point i fall in love with my 2020 gt all over again
i can't stop driving the damn thing with a huge smile on my face
i love my car i love american muscle making it so easy to modify it
Yeah H-pipe sounds much better. I had the raspy crackly V8 sound. Every V8 needs a deeper sound.
Vghff
Dang that sounds good 👌 really can’t go wrong with x or h... but I think h is more classic muscle sounding and x is a bit more race car 🏎 and louder too
EcoBeast how much longer you keeping your car stock? You gotta get BMR CB005 cradle lock out and vertical links. This H pipe is a steal too.
MvF JET the mods are coming for sure / just waiting till spring time - stay tuned :)
MvF JET H pipe for the win
Man that H pipe sounds divine! Like you say definitely more of a classic sound. Making me consider modding my 2019 Uk Bullitt with an H pipe which I thought I would never say!

Sounds really good!
JesseAndMike do you have a mustang
JesseAndMike please talk
Wow. The H-pipe sounds really good. Especially for $150 bucks. I actually ordered a Corsa-double helix X-pipe for my 2017-GT350 from you guys a few days ago. Unfortunately I need to wait 2-3weeks till it comes back in stock but that's ok. I love Corsa products & really liked your video on it. It convinced me to do the resonator delete. Thank you.
Tony Draper H pipe for the 350? Really dude?
AfterRealLyrics -- I said the H-Pipe sounds really good. I never said anything about putting it on my 350. I ordered a Corsa X-Pipe.
@@Djtonydraper Don't even need that. Stock exhaust on the 350 is perfect
Justin looks like Captain America with beard in new Avengers movie.
I'll take it! Thanks! -Justin
Just wanna say I had an H pipe installed on mine today with AE and this video does the sound no justice. As a matter of fact no video does the difference justice. You get that deeper throaty sound and get rid of that flat sounding rumble the stock resonator has. And the pops…. The pops are audible now 😩
I love hearing this, I'll have this installed next week!!! So excited!!! Do you get nice burbles too?!?!?!
The sound of these coyote/voodoo engines are enough to make me cry of happiness...they almost bring me to tears...lmao
I own an Ecoboost 😢
SHADOWCOMPANY6 lol I had an Ecoboost too!! Great car but the trade up is worth it
I prefer H pipe; it sounds lower, deeper & more old school. I don't like raspy exhaust at all.
I bought the H pipe from y'all recently. This thing is loud on my Roush RS3. And I love it. "If it's to loud , You're to Old". Hahaha
I personally love the deepness of the H-Pipe. Couple this set up with some cat deletes and I'm sure it'll sound way better.
I really like that you show the decibels👍
H pipes rule. No question about it. D-O-N-E.
5:42 stock redline
5:56 h pipe redline
The stock resonator is an H pipe so that's why the results... Love H over X
H pipe sounds so good . I had x pipe on my last 2020 and it screamed 😂🔥
Add some Kooks longtubes to this setup. You don't even need to change the exhaust!
Longtubes FTW, you are spot on and most people just don’t understand till they hear how long tubes change the tone.
I have a friend with stock active exhaust mufflers, mrt h pipe, kooks Catted LTH and ohhhh my it is beautiful
Impressive that quiet mode with the H pipe is still quieter than stock Normal mode... alright I'm sold
The stock exhaust was done so perfect imo by ford, I wouldn't even touch the exhaust. only thing I'd do is put a set of headers on it.
True that.
Warren Joseph - I agree 100% especially if you're going NA! Not much power to be gained with a catback exhaust.
What I wonder is does this H pipe cause drone because I love not having drone with the stock active exhaust
Took Ford long enough to get a good sounding stock exhaust. 2015-2017 exhaust is so weak.
@@Jugglenaught1980 my 06 was so quiet with the stock so i put mac boom tubes on it now its really loud
Stock exhaust is good enough.

Sounds good ! I like he H pipe sound over the X pipe.
I prefer the sound of a Honda with the 4 inch fart can muffler system
The Car Crazy Guy you're crazy! Crazy guy :) lol
The Car Crazy Guy REALLY
Right, the V8 exhaust scares me lol jk
Same! It sounds more of a race car while I vape
😄
loving the H pipe over the X pipe. wish more full cat backs would give us the option of a H pipe.
I’ve heard an H pipe on a v6 and it sounds great. Can’t wait to hear it on this
Definitely H pipe. Mine arrived yesterday ( I went with the Roush).
Thanks AM.
Thanks for the order and hope you enjoy the new exhaust note!! -Zach
MBRP > Roush
Captain Morgan do you have an active exhaust? I have one in my gt 2020 would the rouch hpipe void warranty?
@@umairejaz6665 I do have active.
I wouldnt think it would but I don't know ?
All you'd be doing was removing a sound deadner.
The mufflers and Cat are still in place, and it's a Ford performance part.
If you decide to do it I would have an exhaust shop weld it in though.
The system and mounting is very high quality but I have a exhaust rattle I guess you'd say, at start up.
I'm going to take it in and have to welded up.
Got a Steeda H pipe on my Mustang, best decision I've ever made. Put the exhaust in track mode and listen to the absolute savagery that follows when you put your foot down.
H-Pipes are way too under-appreciated, in my opinion. Glad to hear it, Johnny! Thanks for watching! -Zach
Johnny, how is the drone with the Steeda H Pipe? That's the one I'm looking at. Thanks!
Of course I prefer the H pipe man !
Love the active exhaust feature!
I got a 2020 mustang 2.3 high performance it comes without resonator :) it was a nice surprise I didn’t have to expend money for take it out
Wow that's ridiculous. I love the 2018 mustangs exhaust. And h pipes are my favorite. Wish I had the 50k for one of these bad boys
Honestly I think stock sounds best but if I had to pick I think the H pipe is smoother and less raspy. A very mellow rumble. What's the weight savings compared to the x pipe?
MvF JET Maybe a lb or two.
I agree. The sound the hpipe makes as the revs fall is unpleasant.
I just ordered an h-pipe for my 2019 Bullitt! Can't wait!
Very nice! Should be sounding great! -Zach
Which one did you order? And will it void factory warranty? I have 2020 gt
AHHHHH!!! I CAN'T DECIDE!!!! Love the "Rice Krispie" of the X... but I've been an old school muscle car guy forever...ugh...when the time comes I'll prolly go w the H...I think....maybe...???😳
victor urosevic that’s exactly my issue! I want a system that pops like an X pipe but also deep tone like the H pipe. 🤦🏾♂️
I will go with the H pipe.
Mustang fans in Australia are still waiting for the 2017 cars. The 2018 is still just a dream for us. Prices have gone up for the car and it's options and now attract the 33% Luxury car tax. So a v8 fastback auto is A$66,000 plus options and on road taxes. Thanks Ford.
Philip Guacci Blame the government. Import taxes, fuel taxes, GST, luxury car tax. It's all bullshit. Also just go the manual. Cheaper and far better experience.
I just want to say that this video does not do the H Pipe justice when it comes to volume.
I just had mine installed this morning and the difference in volume is crazy!!
Excellent video Justin as always. Had the H pipe on my other S550. So I’m sticking with the H on my 2018. Great work guys.
Thanks Louie! -Justin
Yep, now THAT'S the one that did the trick! Not raspy, smoother, deeper tone, and no backpressure "popping".
I have a '91 C4 ZR1 and did this almost identical setup. Resonator, muffler delete with H-pipe and the LT-5 sounds like a beast, especially above 5,000 rpm.
Now I'm considering doing this setup on my 2014 F-150 with the 5.0 Coyote.
Thanks for sharing. I prefer the sound of the factory 2008 Bullitt.
Good comparison. It's helped me decide something. The difference between the Stock Normal, Sport and Track modes only ranged about 3-4 decibels. I was expecting more of a difference. The normal sounds good to me. I guess I can save $900 on my Mustang GT build.
That was a very informative video👍
I’m having a H Pipe installed next week on my 2018 mustang you’ve reassured me that I’ve made the right decision
Thanks again for posting👍👍👍
H-Pipes for days! Best of luck with your build! -Zach
Jim 671467 any videos?
I need an H-pipe for my 03 Stang
Love the deep sound
Love the vid!
Is this hpipe compatible with convertible (2020 gt premium )too??
H pipe all the way. Sounds great. Thanks for doing his video. I was curious about this setup on the new 18's.
Do you guys have a double h pipe? Also what’s the best brand to go with?
Im sold. Now, which do I get? Heartthrob or Mishimoto? What’s the difference? $100 more for the Mishimoto. Do they both sound the same? I don’t get it need help!!!
I think a H pipe with short inline resonators installed behind the H to cancel any high pitch freqs.
They can keep there active exaust , my 2017 we cut out the resonater and welded in 2 pipes cost 75.00 next is axle back but keep in mind the new cars with the mufflers in rear never sound as good as a fox or sn95 flowmaster old School sound 10 4 .
I like the OE active stuff better. I’m usually an H pipe fan too.
Oh damn! 😍 So much better than that nasty x-pipe 🤢
I have a new GT with the 10 speed. Will the h pipe cause the car to run richer or will the ecm adjust the a/f??
Good vid. The X def sounds better to me. Its all subjective though.
I only see Roush and Pypes on your website. Is the one in the video not for sale anymore?
The Mustang looks so much sexier without a spoiler
Great job Justin , I'm leaning towards the Xpipe , but that's just personal preference , good to see you again , and be careful out there today , we are getting our asses handed to us here in Jersey right now , so needless to say both the mustangs are hiding in the garage!
This H-Pipe sounds better in Sport and Track Mode. Also, I’ve noticed the exhaust note between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Coyote Engine is very different when an aftermarket H-Pipe is installed. I’ve got a Gen 1 Coyote with an MBRP H Pipe and it sounds deeper and “throatier.” I think the S550s are always going to have raspiness even if they have an aftermarket H-Pipe installed.
Neil S facts raspy regardless
Digging the H pipe
Does this void factory warranty 2020 gt?
I have the Steeda H Pipe and I notice a rasp under WOT.Does anyone else hear that when accelerating?Could it be a loss clamp making the noise?
Subscribed! Great videos 😬
X pipe for the win. In my opinion
Just curious: H vs. X used to be about horsepower. The volume of sound was something you risked with local law enforcement as a by-product. What are the horsepower ratings for the various systems you've demoed the sound for?
Jim Steele X has more top end pull. H pipe gives more down the bottom.
Hey AM its time to get back to the Fox body convertible “cobra” y’all said y’all were gonna get back too, love the new mustang but love the fox 100 times more
H pipe sound all day! what, if any drone at highway speeds is there with this exhaust? The stock Ford tune is quiet at highway speeds. I go AZ to CA frequently and don't want drone. Obviously.
Does the h pipe cause a drone, I live how there is no drone in the active valve exhaust from stock
Good question I’m in the same boat 👍
Please review "Borla SwitchFire x pipe"
I'll see what we can do! -Zach
To be clear x or h all Mustangs sound sweet. Yet, I personally think the old school 5.0 and 4.6 cars sound better as in more like Muscle cars than Coyote cars. There are multiple reasons but we are dealing in exhaust here so it’s my belief that the ricer style muffler location after the axel has something to do with it. On older Mustangs the muffler was in the middle of the car and a long pipe afterward. There is science behind this and I believe that what the long section of pipe does is what engineers call attenuation. Which absolutely affects sound waves and how our ears percieve them. On the older cars I think the x always sounded better but that the difference was not that great. Yet, here I have to admit the h sounds nicer and the difference between them is substantial. Could it be that the x pipe used is a bargian model and not a well desingned x pipe? I know from many tests and things that I have read that all x pipes are not created equal. The cheeper ones tend to not have the true x design that fosters scavenging and smoothes out the ways the engine runs and sounds.
Which mode sounds the most like a GT without the active exhaust (with or without an H or X)?
Probably normal
Waiting on my roush h pipe should arrive end of this week so pumped 😈
Sick! Hope you enjoy it! -Zach
How is the Roush H pipe?
@@scotttracy9333 sounds nasty going thru so much gas the sound is addictive 😂
@@savagefriezaq50 Is there any drone ?
As a percentage how much louder is it ?
Has it thrown any check engine light ?
I've already got a roush axle back on my 22 Mustang GT. I'm thinking about getting a H pipe, but have these questions
@@scotttracy9333 hardly a drone at all, I'm on stock exuhst probably 30- 40 percent louder for me
Wondering what's the difference between this H pipe vs the roush H pipe thanks
Some companies vary slightly with the placement of the middle pipe on the h pipe which can make the sound vary slightly, but most h pipes will all sound the same.
Are the active mufflers louder than the non-active ones from the factory?
When the valves open up, they absolutely are! With the valves closed on quiet-mode, its as quiet as a normal factory muffler. -Zach
I like them both 🤷♂️
Quick question what will piss my neighbors off more x or h pipe?
Probably the X-Pipe! 😂 X-Pipes tend to be a LOT more raspy and harsh with the tone the produce on these newer 5.0L V8's. If you're looking for more of a bassy old-school muscle car tone, H-Pipes are the way to go. -Zach
I prefer the H pipe over the X. The X just shrieks too much, the H puts more bass into it. The drone inside that car is going to make highway trips uncomfortable.
what is the major difference of putting an x pipe vs an h pipe into my 2018 stang?
REPLY
kash s x pipe = a little louder, more raspy and more high end power. H pipe = quieter, deeper tone, and more low end power.
could the active exhaust be deleted ? all the 18 peformance packs i'm looking at come with them , and i would like to mbrp cat back and on your web site it said wont fit the 2018?
donkey andrews weird. Took me forever to find the active exhaust in Texas.
Is it going to void ford warranty?
No
What is the best way to deceive the sound? I have straight pipe from cats back and sounds awesome but I wanna clean it up a little. I wanna describe to the exhaust guys but how! I want this sound!
Curious on how much this affects cabin noise. Especially for those of us without active exhaust.
Since this H-pipe replaces the factory resonator, you'll likely experience more drone compared to factory. -Zach
I wish I could find a vid of an H -pipe on a gt350r
Adding a h pipe or x pipe doesn't throw codes, correct?
Nope! Changing out the factory resonator with an aftermarket H or X Pipe will not throw any codes on your Mustang. -Zach
Does anyone know if the check engine light will come on after installing the h-pipe or do I need a tuner ?
You won't have any sort of check engine light after installing an h-pipe like this! No tune required either. -Zach
AmericanMuscle.com thanks can’t wait to get this on my 18 PP2
H-pipe ftw
I'm starting to see a resurgence in H-pipe videos now, thankfully. The whole x-pipe hype is finally dying down. Was never really a fan of them.
No drag mode? My drag stock sounds louder and deeper
I am concerned that you did not have the mic in the same place for both tests.... stock looked like 10' back on the left side and H-pipe was 5' back on the right side... it would have been nice to show consistency.
H pipe I like the deeper sound. Vs the X
Do H pipes create a drone? Just picked up a 2019 GT with active exhaust
Both H-pipes and X-pipes create drone to an extent when you have a high flow exhaust setup. That being said H-pipes usually create a lower frequency alone with a throatier exhaust note, and drone a bit more than X-pipes. They just won't be as raspy and high pitch as the X. -Zach
@@americanmuscle I have the H pipe on my '19 with active exhaust and there is zero drone
Nope. Not on mine. '19 with active exhaust also.
Eric D did you just do the resonator delete and H-pipe replacement and keep the rest of the original exhaust system? Which H-pipe did you go with ?
I personally like the X-Pipe noise!
6 dB is twice as loud for those wondering
H pipe ftw
