A few days before he was due to fly, he suffered a heart attack and died. Roy's solo album Mystery Girl was released at the same time as the Vilburys. He did not live to see its success.

What gets me tearing up every time I watch this, is when Tom Petty is finishing his vocals with 'purple haze' and Roy's vocals are next, Tom glances over to the rocking chair with Roys guitar in and i swear you can see the sadness in his eyes 💔

George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne. Sadly Roy had died shortly before this was filmed. so they just have his guitar on a chair in his place.

I’ll never be able to forget the high school boy who came in and said to me “My Dad told me George Harrison was in another band before The Traveling Wilburys. Is that true? I told the kid “He sure was. Then I sold him a Beatles album and the newer Traveling Wilburys album. As I closed up for the night I thought to myself “What in the world have I gotten myself into? It was a terrific album. I love supergroups too. This one was extra special IMHO.

Hey man you did better than most other reactions I've seen on picking out those legends! They all just happened to be friends and living in LA, and through a series of circumstances a supergroup was created.
They recorded the album, but before they released the end of the line Roy passed, so they gave the tribute to him with the guitar and photo in the video
The whole idea of the group came from Jeff Lynne and George Harrison. Jeff brought Roy into the studio after decades in retirement. Jeff tells the story in a great film I believe it's titled "Mr. Blue Sky. The story of Jeff Lynne" 👍😎❤️
The video was made in 1988, Roy passed away between recording the album and making the video, as of 2024 only Jeff Lynn and Bob Dylan are still with us. George passed in 2001, Tom in 2017. Thanks to records and videos they are still with us.

It’s so sad that 3 of them are no longer with us. I unfortunately just missed meeting George Harrison. I had just walked in the back entrance of the Guitar Center (located in Sherman Oaks, CA) while he was walking out the front door.

Oh, they were awesome, but someone should have started you with 'Handle With Care', so you could actually see Roy in the band. They were only going to do the one album, but it such a hit and they had so much fun, they just kept going, sad we lost Roy too soon, or I'm sure we would of had much more of their music to love. ✌❤

Nothing with George ,Tom,Roy gone they are done ,but their music lives on and that's the great thing about it people pass but the music lives forever.

No Roy was still alive when they wrote and recorded this in fact you can hear his vocals but he passed away from a heart attack before this video was released

You need to listen to the black-and-white concert. Roy is one of those singers that got better with age and that’s close to the end.

@SetonHillStudios Roy was huge in the late 50s- early 60s. Look for the song Pretty Woman.
Thanks, Seton - the Wilbury's were the super-est of "super groups" - sadly, Roy is not featured in this particular song.. George put these guys together to support Roy... but he passed before they recorded this one... their songs were great, with all these guys putting their egos aside... the one that featured Roy the most was "Not alone anymore"... ruclips.net/video/cko3dBWiyus/видео.html - appreciate your reaction... (p.s. drummer Jim Keltner was offered a position as a "Wilbury" but declined to be an "official" member.. still, he was awesome!)
Oh, they were awesome, but someone should have started you with 'Handle With Care', so you could actually see Roy in the band. They were only going to do the one album, but it such a hit and they had so much fun, they just kept going, sad we lost Roy too soon, or I'm sure we would of had much more of their music to love. ✌❤
It's nice that you did a reaction to this, but dang, maybe "Handle With Care" should have been your first experience since Roy Orbison was still alive to be included in the video for that one. Still ... you can never go wrong with the Traveling Wilburys! Thank you!
