I'm not a body man, my brother in law is, and I've watched his magic In a old school way. But watching you for the first time this morning and showed me how far metal work has come. Thanks for the video, great stuff!

I agree with you my friend ...the owner of that beautiful Rav 4 was very lucky to find this talented repair man. I own a 2013 Rav 4, and a total stranger at the supermarket put a very similar ( big ! ) dent on it and, that was 2 years ago, and still today, Feb.2022 , a have not found anyone to repair it using his method. I'm in Puerto Rico. I have always been goid at repairing just about anything, but this auto body artist, is really amazing.

I've watched countless DPR shops repair vehicles from small impressions to huge soccer ball malformations and I've never found anyone that does a more thorough and high quality repair than Christopher. Anyone can buy tools and call themselves PDR capable so buyer beware. In my opinion, it's worth driving to Maryland to have Christopher work on your pride and joy. Great repair.

In the old days when metal was thicker and less forgiving of such a dent, It was screw type pullers and using a hardwood block behind on that pinch. Enamel paint doesnt stretch like todays paint. Such an accident would have cracked the paint and required you to sand everything down and repaint. I realize it takes much longer to fix a dent but the possibility of saving a panel like that is much better than years ago. You are a metal magician! Great job! My dad would be blown away. He used to fix everything the old school way. Bondo.

I'm having to learn as much as I can about this from this video. I backed my wife's car (same make, model, year, and color, as this one) into a handrail, and created a very similar dent to this one, but on the other side. When I showed a picture to the local guy in the area who everyone said was a "magician at paintless dent repair", he texted back and said I needed to replace the entire lift gate, which I can tell from this video is BS. I'd bring the car to you if you weren't so far away. :) NH-Chicago is a long haul for a dent...

This work is a form of art in my view. And BTW, no robots will be replacing humans any time soon in this area. So for you young men that don't want the pitfalls that come with contemporary "educational" institutions (namely their social engineering insanity), this looks like a great area for you to invest you precious time in at a tiny fraction of the cost.

It took over 2 hours to repair a dent the size of a baseball that went through 3 body lines but it was difficult because the new Rav 4 lift gates are aluminum.

Get yourself a Flatliner airbag system, 3 sizes, flat pads slide in tight spots, minimal air pressure required, 5psi will do it nice and easy.
Pop those big areas out fast, sometimes they just fall into place too and not much work to finish off.
Steve has them at Ultra Dent, a lot of panel shop suppliers have them too.
Made in Germany, tough vulcanised rubber, you can lift a car with them, can't stab through them with a knife.

These PDR guys get big bucks. The beauty of PDR is that your not touching the finish of the vehicle. The dent comes out with no refinishing.
A dent that size working 8 hours probably $600 to $800. A body shop would probably be $1000 to $1200 to repair & paint. A high end repair shop would more than likely would want to replace the lift gate...

I definitely think your approach was better. Not that Dave’s approach is wrong, because it can work that way as well and is how I would’ve done it for many years. But I think it would indeed just strengthen that deep and bound up impact area. Making for a longer and more difficult repair with a high probability for more imperfections.

The sheet metal is so thin on new cars, easily dented, but allows paintless dent repair too. Older heavy metal cars, not so much, a reason Bondo dent filler was so popular.
