After living in my 14x76 mobile home on my own lot near a lake with trees in Texas possums are a real problem digging under the skirting. I have lived in several mobile homes in years past and when they are set on a cement slab that extends out past the skirting, rodents won't dig under the home. Unfortunately, I bought this property and the home was already on it and no slab was installed first. Therefore, I have every kind of rodent digging holes under the house. They are nocturnal and only come out at night. I would recommend anyone placing a mobile home on land to lay a cement slab down first and extend it out past the skirting. The cost is definitely worth it because It is a real pain dealing with animals under your house.
That is my fear when purchasing a mobile home. I afraid of rodents and animals getting in the house. I had a double wide years ago in a trailer park and the rodents were a nightmare.
Awesome idea Pour the slab and bite the bullet. So much easier than all this wrapping and woodwork Install a simple vinyl skirting that you can remove to access when it’s necessary

Thank you so very much for this video! I'm 68 years old, and my husband is disabled so I get to do ALL maintenance on our "older" single wide as well as care for our 5 acres. I can't find anyone to hire to do this type of work. I'm grateful for your detailed instructions AND that you're to the point! I love hearing about dogs, children, life stories, etc., but NOT on an instructional video! Thank you!
You don't know how helpful this was! I had no idea how to replace the horrible, broken plastic "skirting" job on my home. They used corrugated plastic roofing panels. Thank you!!!
I need to replace my skirting soon and as a mobile home owner for 3+ decades, I can say without a doubt this is one of the best examples of how to install a high quality skirting solution. I'm defiantly going to follow this example next spring. Thanks for the video!

Nice job. It's important to have that plastic on the ground to keep the ground moisture out. The whole job will make for a comfortable place to live. 👍👍

Great video bud! I’m about to redo mine as well. I agree with some of the other folks on the comment section, I would definitely put ventilation windows in. Mine I plan on doing 2 on the front and back and 3 or 4 on the sides. Trim them out with 1/2” chicken wire. Thanks for your help! 👍🤠
Best underpinning job I've seen yet, gonna save this incase I feel like doing something like this to my dwide in the future. Looks good, should help on power bill a good bit, too. And, keep from those pesky pipes freezing every winter.
wow I lucked out when I got my doublewide- they already put a decent brick and mortar skirt around it. It has little or nothing to do with the building holding it up but is definitely an expensive upgrade if you had to pay someone to do it. It comes with permanent vents with screens the can close for winter and an access to crawl under there. I got rid of the central heat and air that was needing to be replaced. Just a woodstove and room heaters. Window unit a/c's. Hot and cold water lines replaced and put inside the house on the ceiling so no more crawling under it for maintenance or freezing! I hate going under there and now I don't need to.
Forgive my ignorance, but shouldn't there be ventilation for the skirting to prevent moisture buildup in the crawl space, which can lead to mold, mildew, and wood rot?
Thank you. I WILL be using this video for inspiration and tips as I have been thinking of a way to enclose/skirt the bottom of our new 4 season cottage in Canada. Both for warmth and to keep the critters out. I will be adding foam or silver roll bubble insulation on the inside as well. The only issue I might have is that it is built on clay and the ground might shift during the freeze/thaw cycle. The cottage is being built on helical piers.
Hey there, how did it go? I'm insulating my subfloor at our family cottage in central Ontario. Thinking I should skirt it too, and use the bubble foil rolls for insulation. We're built up on rocks though and the ground is very uneven, so I'll have to do some fancy framing and cutting on this project for sure
Great video and work. Here in Oregon we now have to be a minimum of 3 feet high, get a high rise water analysis by an engineer done, and have floodgates installed. Permits are so hard to get here and take so long. It seems they don't want anyone to build anything but corporations. I hope if we EVER get a permit they will do this quality of work.
This is a quality job… I would love to have this done to my place but it would be highly unlikely & may I say nearly impossible that I would find any contractor who would perform the job like this guy has! Bravo
This is pretty dialed. The flashing to detour rodents is perfection. Love to hire you and fly you to Truckee in Lake Tahoe to re-wrap my mobile-home along with additional needed exterior work.
Best skirting job I have ever seen on a mobile home, beautiful job, thanks for sharing!! Makes the plastic lattice skirting on the single wide I just bought, look totally Mickey Mouse 🤣 Guess I’ll have more work ahead 😁 Q: What was the tool you used to cut the metal? Tks
I know it will be Very Helpful to a lot of people. I had planned to do one a little different. Same outcome tho. I had planned on using coffee can with all thread concrete them in can. Bury can down till 2 &1/4 inch thread exposed. Slip bottom sill board over threaded rod. I may have to rethink this method. Since urs has no digging involved. Nobody wants to dig if they don’t have to.
Great video - wish my contractors did this - no rodent barrier - no insulation- just plywood skirting - now that it is -36 Celsius in Northern Alberta - hope my pipes don't freeze
That’s where the home owner (client ) tells them what they expect / want. I’m a contractor and I do jobs according to what the client has asked me to price . Just like this video the steps has no landing by code where I am at steps must have a landing where you come out the door. Plus I saw no ventilation that can cause dry rot and condensation.
@@danbailey96 I was wondering about it not having ventilation, but not being a contractor myself thought maybe it's different in different climates/zones.

Double up on heat tape strips (one on each side of the main) wrap it all with extra thick insulation, use one strip most times, but power them both on when it is very cold or leave a tap open a bit to prevent freezing.
I've been trying to figure out the best option for replacing the ragged vinyl skirting on the 30 year old trailer I recently acquired. What you did looks great! Now how do I slide the vapor barrier under it? 🤣
That is an outstanding job you're doing there. That is the best I've ever seen. In skirting, a mobile home Again, excellent job and where are you located?
Looks amazing and you are quick and to the point. I have to meet FHA guideline for underpinning an area added onto the back of a home I'm flipping. Seems pointless to me because the area is 6 feet in and then it hits the solid concrete foundation. However, I'm going to knock it out tomorrow in much less time thanks to your video.
This is an amazing alternative. I’ve hit vandalism by kids, soccer playing teenagers , & theft of skirting pieces going in. It’s driving me nuts. This looks pretty expensive though. But the detailed instructions are great.
The piece of metal below siding should go up and under siding then out and over metal. Think its called Z trim. Also already mentioned you must have vents. Looks real nice.
My concern is that a manufacturer home will move during seasonal changes. Your typical skirting has a good 2" of play at the top so when the home shifts it doesn't buckle the skirting. Block skirting doesn't even touch the house because of this movement. Maybe I missed it but your skirting looks like it didn't have any play meaning it'll buckle. Did it?
Don't know if this will be of any help but... When I lived in a house (in Atlanta) we had several vents around the foundation. We would close them in the winter to keep out the cold and open them in the summer to avoid moisture build up. I don't like the built-in ventilation in vinyl trailer skirting. When I do mine, I will be installing vents that I can control.
Metal skirting or composite is far superior to vynal skirting since My place has metal and looks good but most in My park have vynal and some I saw installed (none are installed with as much care and professional look as you just did) and even those newer installs look poorly now, they sag, bow and start to deteriorate with holes and if you have a mower that even throws a pebble it makes a hole in the vynal, looks bad.
Most videos on this subject just replace the trashy thin siding with new trashy siding. This is great. Only question that others have asked - shouldn't there be ventilation?
totally concise and perfect job. Done so anybody can follow, and done to last and be very functional. Rodent proof is often overlooked but will return to haunt you if you omitt these rodent-proofing steps. Nice job, nice looking, and totally functional.
Hi there I wanted to thank you so much for your video. I've always seen skirting on mobile homes and it looks so gross but the way you did the one on the house there looked really pretty. We are looking for a double wide to put on some land we own and we are going to have to do the skirting before we put a permanent foundation so this video was really really helpful thank you.
Really nice and excelent skirting for mobile home, i love the way how you make this project amazing. If you have time can you share the list or how to order the steel for this project.
9 years ago, I used green treat 2x4. 5 years ago I used brown treat which is designed to use below th dirt. Now I'm doing it again. Both ground contact wood rotted. Any Ideas? Yes it would help if neigh·bor would not water to much and use a gas power weed eater.
Hello from Canada, yes this was a very helpful video, really appreciate the time you took to make it. We just bought a mobile home, and we will be doing it your way. Question what type of vaper barrier are u using for crawl space.? We are using the clear 6 mil vaper. Hope you see this comment. Thanks alot
Looks really nice !! Some 2 inch insulation board would have helped a lot behind the house wrap. But I know there is a cost factor involved. Nice job !!!
What is the general cost to do skirting this way? Can it be done so there are 2 access doors......and what would the cost be doing it that way? Can insulation be put up for added warmth in the winter in areas where we endure high winds with resultant subzero temperatures?
@@deborahleedlb Hello, The cost depends on how much Material is in your area. It's not hard to do. I have done a few Mobil Homes. It was around $600,00 for Labor and Materials. But that was 7 years ago. I would say it's double that now.
@dereksellars ......geez, where is your abode? I would pay to have you come, put you up for the few days it takes to do it...... I would love love love to have you come and do my skirting!!! One thing I'm especially looking for is the use of insulation or using insulated skirting. I'm in northwest Ohio. We do get some subzero temperatures during the winter and high winds anytime all year round. We out in farming territory so rodents are an issue. So that bracing and rodent-proofing is a plus on a number of fronts. Insulation would be an additional plus. There is also the issue of heavy rains turning the land into a pond all the way around my unit. I wonder if there's a way to keep rain water from getting under the house? This really is quite impressive!!! I'm chomping at the bit to have something like this, and to have someone like you, to do my skirting.
If I ever get a new mobile home, I home to find a contractor underpinner like you. This will be down on my add on sunroom. Thanks so much for due dilgence and quality of work. B
I am interested in redoing the skirting on my modular home and would like to know where I can find someone who can do it the same way as shown in your video. Thank you for the informative videos, I am currently binge-watching all of them. I live around Oklahoma City, Ok.
Probably the most detailed skirting video I've seen. ? Why no vents!. How do you have acces door held in twist latches. This is how I will redo ours plus add 2" owens pink poly and 12" patio block as edging to keep mower away from skirting.
The bottom trim of the siding (Which they called it in the video) is actually the part of the old skirting which allows for frost heave of the skirting in cold climates. In Canada you need to follow CSA Z240 or CSA A277 codes.
This video shows exactly what I want done when I purchase mines thanks alot this is done right the way is supposed to be done😁👍....I wonder what state he's in may I can hire him to do mines😀
Looks good. Nicely done moisture barrier. Did you install a dehumidifier as well? I hope you don't have the, prone to leak, polybutalene plumbing. After years of leaks and flooring damage I replaced with pex and brass fittings crimped on. Also put drain pan under hot water heater routed the drain line thru brick under pinning and outside to drain. Yeah Mobil homes are notorious for being out of square. Lol Few years ago had HVAC with 3 ton unit installed on end of home instead of back. Straight route for unit reduces restriction. Moisture barrier, closed off foundation vents, sealed in all air leaks , automatic dehumidifier. Also had shingle roof replaced with metal top.

Thanks alot
Depending if your home is there or else where. If you are in Canada Regular bubble barrier from your local box store will do great.
@@kellyolsen-tetrault9974 ty for your input. Cheers
Wont the steel cut on the bottom rust with water laying in the trim piece?
You can drill weep holes in the bottom of the channel. That’s what we did putting up board and batten siding on houses. That should solve that issue.
I use quick clamps when I can to tighten the joints while I add screws.
@@dereksellars $600,000?? I think you mean $6,000.
@@12thDecember My bad. Yes I meant $6000. Thanks :):)
Awesome video! Thanks for posting
If I ever get a new mobile home, I home to find a contractor underpinner like you. This will be down on my add on sunroom. Thanks so much for due dilgence and quality of work. B
Thanks for watching!
I am interested in redoing the skirting on my modular home and would like to know where I can find someone who can do it the same way as shown in your video. Thank you for the informative videos, I am currently binge-watching all of them. I live around Oklahoma City, Ok.
how did you attach the top wood to the metal frame/
you did an awesome job!
Lol
Few years ago had HVAC with 3 ton unit installed on end of home instead of back. Straight route for unit reduces restriction. Moisture barrier, closed off foundation vents, sealed in all air leaks , automatic dehumidifier.
Also had shingle roof replaced with metal top.
This isn't ours, I am not sure what else they did
Beautiful job.
Thank you!
