      My guess is it was saline(salt water) in that syringe and the baby is interested in that salt flavor. When your rinse your sinus like this, no matter your age, you must keep your mouth open so you can breathe through your mouth while your nose is filled with saline solution.

    And use distilled water when making the saline solution, or boil tap water.

    • @cr8736
      @cr8736 Год назад +60

      Depending on where you live boiling tap water can be useless, always better to be safe than sorry and use water guaranteed to not have bacteria,etc resistant to extreme heat or cold in it. I've heard of people boiling tap water for neti pot use and ending up with real bad sinus infections.
      Never really believed or thought twice about it until my friend got a nasty infection in his nasal cavity after doing it, it ate a hole through it and into the roof of his mouth.. 😰

    It's also good to not let them go for a long periods of time with stuffy noses bcuz when babies are "mouth breathers", the tongue and jaw is too lax most of the time. This can prevent the jaw and mid-face from having a nice structure and profile when they're older, bcuz the muscles that support these areas are not being used when their mouth is open all the time. If they have consistent stuffy noses it might be an allergy.

      @maryamh1999 but it's something you HAVE to do for them because they can't do it themselves. It's like refusing to bathe your kid because you're too paranoid they'll drown or bonk their head on the faucet
      I also have to use a neti pot regularly, and it's really not that bad. The only time it's uncomfortable is if I have to use double the salt packets or the water is the wrong temp. You can still breathe as you do it too
