Al-Ghazali - The Incoherence of the Philosophers

The title may sound confusing, but even more so with its other name, which is “Destruction of the Philosophers.” What does this mean? Did Al-Ghazali, being a philosopher, refute the philosophers themselves? Of course, there is nothing more contrary to this fact, since it seems to lack sense. However, we must bear in mind that Al-Ghazali, much more than a philosopher who describes the laws of logic or morality through the Quran, is above all a theologian in the service of Allah. We should not be surprised to see that the theologian is against the previous thinkers and philosophers.

Al-Ghazali, fue un polímata de origen persa, teólogo sufí, jurista, filósofo y místico, considerado uno de los pensadores más importantes de la filosofía islámica, que representa el misticismo más profundo. Perteneciente a la escuela Shafi'i, sus trabajos permitieron por primera vez que el sunismo aceptara el sufismo como ortodoxo. Se le debe igualmente la introducción de la lógica y la silogística aristotélica en la jurisprudencia y la teología islámicas. Escribió El resurgimiento de las ciencias religiosas, es posiblemente su obra apologética más importante.
