The tears always threaten to flow during these videos, and during the music. My heart opened whilst under the influences of this band, and I'm forever thankful for what they have meant to me, and always will. I call it aural alchemy, and I call it blessed, for there I learned to talk to God. Not your orthodox method of worship, but in the company of thousands of my brethren, it was ours. God bless the good 'ol Grateful Dead.
Who knew when going to all those shows that we were on the threshold of rock and roll history. If ever a time to be alive, I wouldn't trade another era of time and music for anything. And the beat goes on.
Livsangel like finding an oasis in a sea of American cultures that seemed to have too many rules ,restrictions and mythologies that seemed like a lot of BS-it was far from perfect, like us
Livsangel, it was wonder. It was delight. It was remembering the joy of just being alive, free, and full of flowing love. It was the answer to war, greed, shiny suits, conformity, and the grey dreariness of blindly following the rat-race to see who could die with the most toys. We learned that every moment is a joyous miracle, and a gift. And we learned that we are God's children, already in heaven, sent to spread and increase heaven's love. Only the Father is perfect, but we are his children, creators in our own right, and are still learning to remember who we are.
+B.T. Antares He pretty much was. I think he was drinking hard liquor by...12,14??? He wasn't into the drugs. Hated them. Only took LSD on maybe 1 or two occasions. Even at the acid tests, he was probably the only one there not flying, but he was drinking. :(
B.J. Funk Pig had a liver disease, resulted in cirrhosis but wasnt caused by booze. I heard this in another documentary just yesterday, I always had heard he drank wine + kool-aid so much he died.
Not cirrossis, liver disease killed him. Cirrossis might have been a factor but that wasn't what killed him. ( KRUETZMAN, refers to this in his autobiography, Deal)
He had Crohn’s disease. There are treatments for it now-a-days that help suppress symptoms, but they were just learning about it back then. That’s the gastrointestinal thing mentioned in the video. The reason he’s so thin in his last years is because, with Crohn’s, food runs right through you and doesn’t get processed correctly. You don’t get nutrients from the food you eat. Plus you’re in pain a lot of the time, which is probably one reason he drank so much. LSD and weed would make him think about how much his gut hurt, but alcohol would numb the pain. I guess I never really thought too much about his situation. I have Crohn’s. My large intestine was removed twenty years ago because I was so sick and couldn’t keep weight on. Things are better now, but I’ll be taking meds for it until forever 😁🙏❤️
I'm not watching this doc. I just wanted to say how much I miss all the great cheap drugs I bought at Dead shows and how great/great looking all the Hippie girls were. The music, SUCKED ASS.
The Green Cesspool You didn't even like the music on the drugs? Wow, I feel sorry for you...must have a severely blocked head. But then hey, you seem to like KISS so it's okay lol

The guy that narrates this is so good.
Kris Kristofferson, actor/musician and the man who wrote Me and Bobby McGhee among hundreds of other songs.
@@fintanoclery2698 he wrote a few songs not hundreds
He wrote more than just a few. A lot of his songs were written for other artists!
@@lastnamefirst4035 More than "a few" 20+ studio albums of his own, and countless songs written for others.
Pigpen sort of looks like Murderface!
6:40 for those who don't know, that illustration comes from the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam

it was like coming home when all you ever knew before was homelessness.
Wow, Pigpen died of cirrhosis at 27?? He must've drank 24/7 for half his life.

Those clown costumes would have sent me into a very bad place if I had have been there. Good lord...
I know right! Jesus christ 😂
Sounds weird w Kristofferson narrating
תודה על זה :)
From what I've heard in the first few minutes, this sounds like watered down BS
This is boring to me. Anyone else?
Absolutely fucking not
I’m not sure exactly what band you think has a MORE interesting history👀🤷🏻!?
