    The reason I still listen to Jack White's music is because he just creates what he likes and what feels good, instead of trying to make something he thinks people want from him. I hate buying new albums and being bored because they sound just like what I expected it to. Boarding House Reach is amazing. Can't wait hear it live in Austin.

      Right on. That’s why I love queens of the Stone Age too. They always challenge us to open up. I even often will question how much I like a new qotsa album, then not long goes by and I’m in complete love with it.

    • @j_freed
      @j_freed 4 года назад +2

      I see your point, but even Jack admits there's no perspective when you are the sole creative input and your musicians are all "guns for hire." What he did on the last Raconteurs album with Brendan Benson and the other guys, that sounds WAY more like a healthy collaboration. He admits that's better for perspective and making art.
      And even collaboration gets stale or runs dry, for example the 2015 Dead Weather album doesn't capture the groovy swampy vibe of the first two albums. Dodge has bright points, but Horehound and Cowards are two of my most listened albums in the past ten years, by far.

      Metallica does that as well, albeit for better or for worse, but either way, it's more authentic and it keeps them from being pigeonholed in a specific subgenre.

    Lars is a great interviewer. I actually love that he relates it to Metallica; it seems to coax better answers from his guests because it turns it into an insider interview rather than a superficial conversation.

    • @hinjurock

      Exactly. All the idiots who accuse him of being egotistical don't get that musicians usually relate and identify with each other on that level.

      It's like when Jonesy's Jukebox interviews Ozzy, and the experience of the two gentlemen is so similar there's a whole different level of humor and honesty, trust and communication. It's not cat and mouse, it's more like a fun jam.
      I seriously recommend that one to appreciate British culture.

      The only acceptable time to have a toothpick in your mouth is if you are wholly engaged in the task of using it to remove something from your teeth. In any other instance, even if the person is alone (but particularly if he or she is with company), it is merely an affectation; a complete and utter "douchebag accessory." What's particularly bizarre is that he is hosting a contemporary, world-renowned musician in Jack White, and he knows the interview is being filmed. He had the choice of either projecting a professional appearance to his guest or to receive him as we see in this clip: dressed like he's an extra in one of the yard scenes in Clint Eastwood's Escape from Alcatraz (1979).

      Bob Dylan is one of his biggest influence. Makes sense. Also, it's important to acknowledge that very few musicians do it like Jack or Bob.

      aavlijaner I don’t care for Metallica, but everything he says about it he relates to what they are talking about. I would think that the reason to have him as host, beyond the hosts being poster names, are their insights in the industry
