- When the Kilimanjaro Safari ride began, it was more than just an animal-sightseeing safari. It had a story line with poachers threatening two elephants, Big Red and Little Red. The driver/guide keeps updated over the radio, talking to a warden and naturalist. This footage was shot in 2000.
Current Kilimanjaro cast member here. I remember riding Kilimanjaro for the first time in 2007, still with this storyline. It was amazing, but I do think we evolve, and inevitably things have to change with it. The safari is so much more about conservation, and I think it brings much more light to the animals there who most are genuinely endangered. Nothing can be more exciting than a thrilling ride to save little red, but these days I don't think I'd swap it out regardless. But it is great to look back and remember where it started. Wonderful video!
Thanks so much! What a fun area to be a cast member. We agree that the Safari is actually better now. The focus is on the animals, as it should be, not a made up storyline. Throughout Animal Kingdom, the importance of conservation is felt, discussed and is the focus. I love that park! So glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank you for sharing. I remember riding this version and miss the storyline too. The action sequence really helped inspire guests to educate themselves about how poachers are threatening endangered wildlife populations.
It’s a shame they don’t even mention poaching any more. Thank you so much for watching!
I preferred this version of the ride. I was so disappointed when they changed it.
It makes sense with the story line. Now, there isn't really one. Thank you so much for watching!
I rode this when I was 5 years old. That was in the year 2000. I found an old photo of the plane one of my parents took at the end. I don't remember much, but rewatching helped defog my memory. I'm happy and grateful to be a small part of this ride's history. Thank you for sharing this.
So glad we could bring back memories of Disney! I have been going since I was a baby and love when something jogs a memory. So glad you enjoyed watching it!
I remember seeing this scene in Kilimanjaro Safaris when I rode it in both 2006 and 2007! Felt good to do a little bit of heroics
I love seeing the animals on the ride now but I think this story line is great. You're right, everyone loves heroics! Thanks fo watching,
This was great footage I'm so happy you posted it for us to watch thank you friend.
I'm so glad you liked it. Thank you so much, as always, for your support.
We miss that old version of the ride. Thanks for sharing . Today we are heading over to the parks but it's never the same as it was in the past.
Wish we could meet you in the parks and ride the safari! I love seeing the animals but it does work better with the storyline. Thank you so much for watching!
Always fun to see how attractions change over time!! I know I said it before, but I love your throw back series!! ❤️
Thank you so much! We've really enjoyed watching and editing the footage. I never saw this version so I'm glad Steve filmed it! Thank you so much for watching and, as always, for your support!
Amazing footage once again given when this was recorded. I remember this well, liked the story but Fiona and I found this ride way too bumpy towards the end. I remember sitting in the back and we were thrown all over the place!
It is very bumpy! I had a woman who didn’t want to share the bench so she refused to scoot over. She was glued to me and pushed against me with every bump. I had to tell her to stop pushing me, I couldn’t control the bumps!! Thank you so much for watching!!
@@TravelswithVandSteve Pleasure as always! After our bumpy experience, it put Fiona off for many years. She loves it now though!
I miss the poachers 😂😂😂
It certainly gave it a story line....and guns!!! ha ha. Thanks so much for watching!!
Another really awesome video. Love the safari. Even back then. Have a magical day :)
Aww, thanks so much for the kind words! Yeah, we both love the safari too. Thank you so much for watching!
I had forgotten about this. Thanks for the memories. Enjoyed the video
So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for watching!
Your videos are fab! Thanks, as always, for sharing! x
Thank you SO much and thank you for your support!
It’s funny, they probably changed the ride to make it more “kid friendly”, but I was there when I was a kid, maybe 8-9 years old, and I loved this ride with the poachers. I still clearly remember the sound of the truck engine when we started to chase them. Was so much fun, and actually addressed the root cause of why most animals become endangered
I agree, I think kids should still be taught these lessons in a fun way that introduces them to the animals too. It's still a cute ride, you can't go wrong with animals, but I like the poacher aspect they used to have. Thanks so much for watching and sharing your memories with us!
Awesome! I love seeing how the ride was in 2000 :)
When riding it now, it’s strange to think it had a storyline! Thanks so much for watching!
Do miss this bit. One of my favourite rides. I feel old now though lol
This video made us feel old too!!
OMG, your not kidding, this is the blast from the past. Simbavat! LOL
HA ha ha ha!! I couldn't believe the guy holding the gun. WOW. Thanks so much for watching!
Didn’t the crocodile bridge used to have a bit where it’d pretend to break a bit…or did I experience something bad as a kid….
That does ring a bell...or we both experienced something bad as a kid! ha ha. Thanks so much for watching!
Do you have any throwback Festival of the Lion King videos?
I'm not sure but I'll look through our videos to see. We have the recent show here on the the channel, but I don't know about a throwback. I'll let you know!
Sorry, but I don't think that we do. Just the new one, from last year. We have more coming up though!
I remember riding this version of the ride I felt so sorry for little Red those nasty poachers killed hi mommy
I'm guessing they stopped doing this because it must have been sad and a bit scary for kids. It's a good message, but maybe not for young kids. Thanks for sharing your memories with us!
I went on the safari a few years ago but it wasn’t as cool as this. I wonder why they changed it.
They changed it years ago and I'm guessing it was a bit too graphic with the poaching storyline. Now it focuses on the animals, which is good too. Thanks so much for watching!
What you meant to say is we have gotten too soft
@@Captin_balliztic Well...ha ha ha
Cool to watch
Thank you so much and thank you for watching!
what's that name of the song
I'm sorry, I went back to see if I added music but didn't, so I don't have anything to tell me the name of a song. Thank you so much for watching, sorry I couldn't answer your question!
nice safari would have been fun :)
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! We appreciate it!
13:11 Truck's losing control due wet road conditions.
You remember this version of the ride well!
@@TravelswithVandSteve As in person as a child I don't remember this version, I never seen poachers roaming around, or saw Wilson's plane.
@@giannimaisonet3290 I was at WDW while they were building Animal Kingdom, then didn't go back until years later so I haven't seen this version either. Steve saw it several times.
He must've liked those Trucks so much. So do I!
