  • Great Keppel Island on the Southern Great Barrier reef is a hidden gem! Just a stones throw away from Yeppoon, on this day trip I had amazing beaches all to myself and swam with sharks, rays and turtles!! My ticket to GKI only cost $85 including lunch at the Great Keppel Island Hideaway and snorkelling gear hire. Put this island on your list of places to visit today!!

Have you ever had an island as AMAZING as this to yourself? And actually wanted to get in the water with sharks? 😅

Haha, mate, sharks are the main reason I WANT to get in the water. We only have so many wobbegongs, PJs, horn crested, duskies, nurses etc. in Sydney that it's always nice to get away to the tropics to see some reef sharks or shovelnose rays. There's a decent selection of other rays too in Sydney, just check out some of my videos ;)

@@buggersofoz yewwww, sharks rule! We are so lucky to have such a diversity of species here in Australia!

Hey Cuz. A beautiful spot that bought back many great memories for me. I lived and worked there in the late 80s. Many days spent on fisherman's beach. I enjoyed watching you enjoy the place. Good job mate.

Great video mate! I'd love more underwater footage, but I'm also keen to check out the rest of your roadtrip. We're from Sydney, so the only options to visit the Capricorn coast are connecting flights in Brissie. We're thinking of driving to visit some friends in Brissie and making an island-hopping road trip, maybe with 3 nights on Heron Island, 1-2 on Great Keppel or just a day Trip to Keppel and checking out other destinations... The only downside would be a looong way back and one way rental would need to be Brissie to Townsville, so doesn't make much sense too...

Maybe check out some closer islands instead like Stradbroke or Fraser?

Absolutely unreal mate, a tropical paradise all to yourself! I guess the nudists were shy and didn't want to be on camera... good thing the reef sharks weren't! Seeing wildlife is one thing, but contributing to a viable bit of citizen science is another thing altogether, great stuff. I can't wait to finally get out and explore properly soon, we're hunkering down for winter here in the states so your videos are gonna be my escape for a while. Where do you get your music by the way? Is it copyright free? Great stuff!

Thanks guys, yeah I always prefer to get wildlife on film than people... haha. I've got the whole Northern Territory series coming up so I hope that helps tide you over during winter!! Also, I get my music from either Epidemic Sound or Music Bed. It is a monthly subscription ($20 per month ish) and is copyright free!
