That was part of the reason Carlin was so good; he also started clean as a whistle back in the 50's. I'm not ready to call Taylor a modern Carlin, but she's certainly on that trajectory.

My take is that in "clean comedy" you actually have to be funny. Too much of modern "comedy" is based on pretending that sexual promiscuity is still taboo so the mere idea of sleeping around is funny and the comic does nothing for the line or setup/payoff.

I have found that religious extremists don't take religious humor very well. I told a "born again" friend that originally there were 15 commandments, but Moses dropped and broke one of the tablets coming down the mountain. My friend was not amused. Another time I told him that the amount of Christmas lights a person displays is directly proportional to how much they have sinned during the year. Then as we drove around when I saw a house with a lot of lights I would point and say "sinner!" He actually wanted to fight me over that joke, to which I told him "that's not very Christian of you." He got so upset that I didn't see or hear from him for several years after that.

I was hoping to get a more wide shot of the table where you can see something like Conan/Sona/Matt/Guest at once? As a pastor, I’m a little surprised that she was removed for that joke. I mean, we’ve hosted comedians that said way worse at our church - on stage mind you, not just a tweet - and we were happy to have them back. I don’t understand why sex is always seen as sinful. Its not! I’m really hoping there was more to that joke than just what the clip showed.
Now, I could see how a church might feel that it’s inappropriate for children at a particular show, but not a tweet. Come on…

It’s an insular, incestual, cannibalistic world of people trying to emulate one person who made it and then trying to one-up each other by being THE MOST at that flavor of the month. Being unique is rare and it’s hard to achieve when you’re surrounded by people trying to be one thing.
