As a pastor, I’m a little surprised that she was removed for that joke. I mean, we’ve hosted comedians that said way worse at our church - on stage mind you, not just a tweet - and we were happy to have them back. I don’t understand why sex is always seen as sinful. Its not! I’m really hoping there was more to that joke than just what the clip showed. Now, I could see how a church might feel that it’s inappropriate for children at a particular show, but not a tweet. Come on…

@@shanedbunting To be fair, I should also mention that the comics were typically heard from are not in the Christian circuit. Being unique is rare and it’s hard to achieve when you’re surrounded by people trying to be one thing.

Her refusing that money speaks highly of her ethics. Dave Chappelle in the 90's level talent, naturally funny.
Only time Chapelle was funny when he did supporting role on Blue streak
Meaning she refused offers from other churches. Not sure if she was as ostracized as she said.
it's not just ethics, pretending to be someone you aren't can be stressful AF. Obviously this was all before her diagnoses and treatment for bipolar, but it may have just been her realizing that she literally couldn't do the job and remain sane at the same time.
@@136jab Yeah, I can only imagine having to mask that hard and form a whole ass career on that. Good on her for growing more.
Let's not get carried away! She is nowhere near Dave Chappelle in any way.
Taylor is, IMHO, one of the best comedians out there right now. She's fresh and her crowd improv is witty and quick.
She is very talented--her material is fresh and funny, and she has GREAT timing.
She's so damn centered and down to earth. Fan.
She is the REAL DEAL - I got to experience her live & she is so quick its almost scary. Lost 5 lbs laughing - so also best work out program EVER!
I love Taylor! LOL! She's hilarious even during interviews..."I mean, they put it in your g-string." Great!
Must have been baptist.
That’s actually a clean joke; a Goddam cleverly funny clean joke as well!
I know? It's like the opposite of smutty, because you think it's going to be smutty and then the punchline punctures that!
It's a joke about an unmarried woman having sex. Americans are puritanical at the best of times, in a church that's turned up to 11.
Yes it’s a great joke. But you even say the word sex in that context you’re done!
“In three months I have a LAND gig!” ah, the simple pleasures of life
Another classic knee slapper suitable for every audience on a cruise ship matinee:
- "Knock, knock."
- "Who's there?"
- "Just another lonely stray iceberg."
.
Or just having Bill Burr deliver a short speech in the show's epilogue about the benefits of deliberately and randomly sinking cruise ships...
The more I listen to Taylor the more I like her, she really is a special talent.
She’s brilliant, especially at crowd work. That’s so difficult for most.
I can't envision Taylor doing comedy in a church setting. My brain wants to explode just trying to envision it.
I take it you didn't grow up in an evangelical church. It's pretty obvious to us.

I've been following US politics for about 6 or 7 years from 🇬🇧 specifically 🏴. I also follow religion from the non religious side and the sources are mainly American. I have an understanding but that's not like being immersed in the extreme religiosity found in parts of America 😳
Her next special should really have a segment where she does church material. Like the dead mum segment on her last one.
I can picture it but I grew up in a similar background. She jokes just like my favorite aunt who used to get me in trouble at church for giggling so much 😂😂😂
"If other people are in robes I want to be nude." Me too Conan. Me too
She offers a personal purity with her smart spirit that is contagious for all women to experience. AWESOME.
The land gig reminded of something someone said to me. I picked up a load in SubTropolis, the underground city. I was waiting by a loading dock at one of the businesses there. I asked a guy working there how he liked working In an underground facility. He said "we used to have a surface factory and it was terrible we had weather. "
Thank you for posting these clips, it can add a lot especially when someone is being extra animated. I was hoping to get a more wide shot of the table where you can see something like Conan/Sona/Matt/Guest at once? When there is more back and forth happening, the crosscutting can get a bit chaotic at times trying to squeeze in who is talking and the reactions, it would probably save you guys some extra editing as well I'd imagine!
Come on…
Genuinely curious not trying to troll but we're the comedians who have said worse in you comment male or female. I ask because I believe males historically receive more leeway . But I don't know the specifics of you examples . Thank you for taking the time to answer if you are able .
@@shanedbunting That’s a good point. I’d actually say both. I would say the worst comments have come from females, but men have done it more often.
@@JackofAllMinistries hey thanks for you thoughtful response .
@@shanedbunting To be fair, I should also mention that the comics were typically heard from are not in the Christian circuit. An outside organization called “Comedy for Causes” sets up comedians from all walks. When they visit our church, we ask them to censor their material which they usually do a good job. That is a little bit different. This isn’t a Tim Hawkins or John Crist thing. Our biggest names have only been like John Stoller or Scott Wood, so it’s a different crowd.
@@JackofAllMinistries just one more thing and it's nit picky a bit I know , but if you are going to use the term female you should also use male and vice versa if you are going to use the term men you should use women when comparing the two groups in the same thought or statement. I believe language is a powerful tool and should be used as responsibly as we are able to . I appreciate you taking your time to chat with me on this subject . Thank you .
She’s hilarious. Her last Netflix special is great.
"I've done churches, I've done corporate, I've done clubs, I've done colleges, I've done cruise ship."
Why is every comedy gig starts with C?
Next gig she should look for would be C'thulhu
Her approach to standup doing literally every gig is exactly how I got my reputation in my line of work. Hell yea girl, respect the hustle!
I saw Taylor on a Royal Caribbean cruise. She was great then and even better now. I still remember her bit about Target Jacket jokes in the beginning of her act. She was super approachable and so sweet when we saw her later that night on the ship.
Conan O’Brien is the most irish looking guy on earth.
We have dark features, or no features. There is no in-between.
Thanks RUclips for recommending this video while I was on a Conan/Schlansy binge. I never watched Conan on TV, I’m glad I can enjoy that comedy gold now on YT.
Taylor, I love your work, seen your specials on Netflix. You are an inspiration and an incredible talent. There are very few standups who can match your originality, sensitivity and relentless funniness. I didn’t know about your church background, now it’s time for me to go a Tomlinson binge. Just downloaded the whole podcast interview to start with.
I am so excited to experience Taylor’s comedy. I hope that, as long as she wants it, she has a long and successful career!
She is the most brilliant comedian I've ever seen. She's got solid delivery, her material is meaningful, and she can improvise off audience input. I can't think of another comedian with her power. I don't like when she makes fun of God, but what are you going to do? I don't go to church for laughs and I don't go to comedy clubs for religious guidance.
TT rocks!! Tickets to her show are super expensive. ... because they're worth it.
God has been so good to her. I don't like irreverent material so I just won't pay to see her.
Happy Easter everyone!
@@mangafq8 whenever I hear someone mocking God, I just hear someone who wasn’t taught properly. It’s not the person’s fault that they were taught wrong.
God is just crying out to be made fun of. Maybe if he doesn't like it he should get his act together.
One of her better podcasts. More vulnerable and sharing and relatable
It is plain to see why Conan likes and respects her so much.
She does have quite a pair on her
More, more, more Taylor Tomlinson. She is my favorite comic!!!!!
I like her. She's just such a funny comic
Great stories and observations from Taylor. She seems like a cool person to hang out with and just tell jokes about the world.
Best "new" comic I've seen in a long time! Her routine is particularly endearing because so much of it is self-deprecating but in a way that's broadly relatable. (Or is that just me?)
@Nanners like John Stewart old or George Carlin old? Tell us who's new if she's so old.
@Nanners That's why I used quotation marks. I know she has been on the stand-up scene for several years, but she has only reached the, "You get your own TV special," level in the last few. Sure, there are many others who have been in the game for less time, but...apples to apples...she's one of the newest comics at her level.
Having said that, if you know of some good, _newer_ comics, I'd love to check out any links you'd care to share.
Shane Gillis and ralph Barbosa have been doing it for far less time. But yes shes very good
@@brandonhinrichs4393 I shall have to check out their work. Thanks for the tip!
I think doing a gig at an NA or AA meeting would be the ultimate level. Just think of all the brightness and laugher that could be injected into such an environment and potentially causing a surge of inspiration for those groups.
Taylor is becoming a firm favourite, good jokes and brilliant delivery
Came for the headline. Impressed with this gal. So funny. Love it!
She is one of the people who I honestly think is worthy of potentially carrying the banner of “hardest working comedian” when Conan finally returns to his home planet
I am very encouraged by her integrity and I hope that young people will see her and follow her example 😊
She is an amazing comedian and person. Love her.
When she said that she did every kind of stand up there is, I wondered when she was a flight attendant.
😂😂😂
She's done every kind of gig...and that's just within the letter 'C'!
When you can be choosy about what gigs you're going to take... that's awesome. I think that's the milestone.
2:44 Not being exposed to standup can be a great thing for comedians. So many comedians ARE hacky. It’s an insular, incestual, cannibalistic world of people trying to emulate one person who made it and then trying to one-up each other by being THE MOST at that flavor of the month. Being unique is rare and it’s hard to achieve when you’re surrounded by people trying to be one thing.
Taylor is one of my favorite current comedians. Keep up good work
Her cruise schedule actually sound amazing to me. But I'm one of those weirdos who met Covid lockdown with the "healthy" spirit of "if it weren't for all these people dying I'd want this to go on forever!" And then I'd remember how bad traffic used to be and think that I was still *maybe* a bit too okay with it going on at least a little longer.
The, like, elder brotherly dynamic between Conan and her, I’m here for it
That joke is funny regardless of a person's religious leaning. And it's not offensive. Ppl are way too precious about their stupid feelings. She is brilliant and very funny.
Yeah, I agree it's a really clever joke. But once she used her own (unmarried) sex life as material, the church couldn't host her and maintain its integrity. I get it.
@@johnbockmann if it was an adult only church show it should not matter. Even religious people know about sex and the humour of the awkwardness it can bring.
@@SirCanuckelhead It's not a matter of being prude or uninformed. Religious people believe God created sex, after all. But perhaps you don't know--they also believe God created sex exclusively for marriage, and they believe that's a big deal.
@@johnbockmann right, and that is the point of jokes. Take those big deals and laugh over them. I have faith that many can laugh at stuff like that.
@@SirCanuckelhead Yes, as I said, it's a very clever joke. The issue wasn't humor but integrity. You're not a Christian, I presume.
Taylor’s perfect how she is. She took all the right lessons from her past.
Cool to hear her backstories. Time on stage honing the craft. She's so skilled in the art of comedy that her jokes hit the mark everytime.
Conan highly respects her as a young fellow comedian and wants her to succeed because she's so funny.
She's so great, I really enjoy her stuff. She just has a funny personality and perspective.
Taylor's so hilarious!! *EVERYONE needs to know about her!* She's TRULY AMAZING & RELATABLE!!! I'm SO GLAD I found her! _We MUST share all her vids & make her go SUPER VIRAL!!!_ 🥰🤗🥰
Wow, the illiteration was magical! Churches, clubs, corporate, colleges, cruise ships, all on Coco!!
Taylor Tomlinson is SO funny. I watch everything she posts on RUclips. She kills, every time.
That joke is funny, but it's honestly even more hilarious that it was the joke that was too much.
All the Cs of Comedy spots: Cruise Ships, Corporates, Colleges, Casinos, Clubs, and Churches 😂
I laughed when Conan said you “got fired from the church comedy circuit” hahahaha.
I worked for a few years as a cruise ship musician and that "land gig" part brought me back LOLOLOL
I read it as fried in church and immediately thought “Taylor! Who breaded you?!”
One of my favorite episodes. Absolutely love her.
The only episodes I've relistened to are Bill Hader, Jeff Goldblum, and hers. She has such a mastery of language, like how she describes herself as a dog on a skateboard.
She deserves.all the success that comes her way!
Conan: ...And I've never performed on a cruise ship.
Taylor: **encouragingly** You'll get there.
Me: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They're both so good. Humble and incredibly funny.
That "wild animal sex" jojke was amazing.. She's so awesome.. Pure comedy
3:29. They put it in your g string. Lol.
Taylor has the most pleasant attitude and the best complexation of any comic ever. She could easily do skin cream ads and make bank!!!
"Wild animal" is ROFL material. Taylor's metaphors are priceless!
doing comedy for a job feels like 50% doing your job and 50% worrying about when you get your next gig. this seems pretty consistent unless you are an overnight hit, which very few are
Churches, corporate, clubs, colleges, cruises, Conan... "I'll work anywhere that starts with the letter C." 🙂
I love her laugh, it's so cute!
