    I have a ten year old female Icelandic sheepdog. Best dog i have ever owned. They aim to please and do have a very happy expression. They smile a lot and are very sensitive to their owner's mood. If you are sad they will jump on your lap and rest their head on your chest. They are also very smart and great hiking dogs. My Icy does well in agility and rally. She also loves to fetch.

    They adore their owners but on the other hand, separation anxiety is also very common with Icelandic sheepdogs. You may need to train your puppy a lot to be left alone in the house.

      Better--always, and this goes for most any breed (terrier may be the exception) is have a 2nd, companion dog. Dogs are not meant to be alone.

      #JimQuatic Complete bullshit. Dogs where historically often alone, few where in packs, dogs can be happy and thrive on their own. This however is a dog with only working independence which is why it shouldn't be alone, hounds for example thrive on independence

      @@JamesBurdon-gu5yu I think dogs, in general, ARE pack animals and do better with a companion dog. Go cry it out if that bothers you.

      @@Olm9Yes.
      But there is a solution. Puppy training. If you teach them from young age to not bark at things you don't want to it's perfectly manageable. We have had a resque Icelandic shepherd and it barked so much because it never had proper training. Our own Iceland Sheppard we had since pup only barks at motorcycles now since she got scared by them once. If the dog gets scared by something. Don't give it any attention since this will trigger the protective bark instinct. Act like everything is normal.
      A dog that has much energy and needs loads of activity. If you have the energy and time this dog will forever be your best friend! :)

    Is this breed good with other dogs?

    • @escwilde222
      @escwilde222 Год назад +1

      Very! Mine never reacted bad to a other dog unless the other dog showed signs of agression and even then the dog will try to calm things. One of the most friendly characters you can find!
