Here’s some more unsolicited and annoying subscriber feedback… One of your strongest assets is your ability to demonstrate that winning poker is not just about good decisions on the felt, it’s what you do away from the table as well. Winning matters…but your transparency and authenticity matter just as much. When you hit more of those patches where the run-good abandons you, your subscribers will continue to solidly continue to root for you because they genuinely connect to the fact that you’re one of the good guys. I don’t worry too much about you losing that focus, but I know it’s valuable and encouraging to know. I have a few suggestions that might be valuable to you. It probably hasn’t escaped your attention that Mariano is gaining steam because he’s a smart winning player…the message to glean there is that increasing your bankroll to play higher stakes is your quickest way to accumulate subs and views. Put together some simple merch (t-shirts, card protectors, hats) and let your subscribers participate in building your bankroll until your RUclips income builds enough over the next year or two to fortify your bankroll. Don’t hire someone to do this for you…it’s easier than you think. Yahoo merchant solutions provides an easy to manage enterprise solutions. If you haven’t already done so, hiring an editor might be a valuable (if not inevitable and necessary) utility as long as the editor doesn’t overcomplicate the production. If you do get an editor, insist that they put out a production exactly the way you would do it as if you were doing it yourself. In fact, I don’t even wanna know you have an editor…don’t go out of your way to hide it or be cheesey and play it off, like it’s all you, but it’s superfluous and counterproductive. There are good reasons why you shouldn’t let an editor change your format…player point of view is not only more than good enough, it gives you an intimate connection with your viewers. It’s fine to mix in live stream POV with your voiceover, but the player POV (especially in your case) works, don’t mess with that. Remember that Brad Owens has kept it really simple and it works…don’t be afraid to experiment with originality, but also don’t be afraid to leverage proven models. You’re going to be a monster if you stay the course. You have a great work ethic and determination, so I like your chances.
Being able to lose +6k, go home, take a nap, shake it off, them come back and profit for the day really shows lots of mental fortitude on your part. I'd definitely talk to some poker friends about the 86cc hand but in my non professional opinion it seems like a sigh-call. Great rebound buddy and keep up the great work!
Well said. Lex's money management is topnotch. But I think 86cc was a trivial fold. Villain is almost never bluffing. If you're in this spot 20 times, I guarantee that you'll make more money by folding.
I think Lex's point about how the villain played his earlier bottom-two-pair as a check-call across 3 streets is a really good one. That type of player who takes the passive line in that spot is less likely to be balanced when he overbet jams the river, and if he _did_ have a bluff there, he's almost certainly going to show the table so that he can get paid later. If you're the player type that goes low-variance with hands like bottom two, you _need_ to advertise your bluffs. So I think the villain is disproportionately likely to be trying to cooler a lower flush there, gives his river sizing.
Lex, I was impressed by the fold. More impressed by the introspection. I'm 72 years old, and I've played lower stakes poker most of my life. Watched a lot of players ruin themselves. Your decision making right now is spot on. I'd say good luck, but you don't need luck. Skill is enough
Just because he folded doesn't mean it is a good fold. Not gone to the solver, but I'd argue this was a bad fold in the majority of cases. Flushes are amazing 'bluff catchers', as they block both your opponents chances he has flushes. Also given the size of the bet and the size of the pot I don't think I ever fold that. Would need some seriously crazy reads, and the reads he gave imo weren't worth a fold.

Table selection is so important and knowing when the table is too tough. Friday, Saturday, and Holidays during the evening hours are best for me. I have played a lot of sessions from 4 in the afternoon to 4 in the morning. If there is only one table playing at the stakes you want, think about calling around to see if there is more action somewhere else, or consider dropping down where there is more action. Glad you were able to take a nap, eat, and get your head back together and go back to book a win. You can't do anything about bad beats or suck-outs, they are part of the game. Scared money can't win, if you worry about the size of your loss, then you need to drop back down and build your bankroll. Love your vids, keep up the grind.

Playing smaller stakes and winning, then jumping into a bigger game and losing does you no good in the long run. Finding a middle ground and sticking with that for awhile until you are comfortable then moving up to play steadily at the high stakes makes more sense. As you mentioned allowing the dollar amount to influence your game causes negative thought as you are probably going to talk yourself into a fold more often than not. Don't play games that are going to hurt you if you lose your whole stack or you'll just give it away a little at a time. Just agreeing with what he mentioned in the video and as a poker player for 30 years trying to offer helpful to a fellow player as I have been there. I’m not entirely sure there is much value in *ever* playing Bellagio $10/20. Its mostly pros. Go to LA or maybe play the uncapped $5/10 at the Wynn… Going to have to play a lot wider 4 handed and that means higher variance. Personally I wouldn’t want to play in a higher variance situation when playing higher stakes.
I respectfully disagree. You have to take shots, from time to time. You also have to put more emphasis on game selection when you move up. He took a shot, ran bad, got put in the blender. He recognized it, and left. That's how you move up. Right?
Lex, don't let the negatives people say get to you. I really enjoy your content and would say you are up there with the very best vlog content providers. Just because a solver might say it was a call or not your live tells and experience in the moment are what led to the decision. Putting your self in that situation is braver than what most of these negatives would do.
Good fold as played with 86cc. Would recommend a smaller c-bet on those types of boards in the future though. It keeps pots smaller and allows you to continue with a wider portion of your range facing a raise. The large bet polarizes you in a spot where you don't need to polarize with range advantage. The big sizing lets villain put you on a narrower range of strong Kx, AA, sets and flush draws. I think the massive sizing on the river is just him trying to cooler you with the nut flush because he realizes so much of your range will be hands like 64cc, 54cc, 65cc, QJcc etc with the big flop bet. My guess is theoretically this is an MDF call if you are folding most of your flush draws without additional equity on the turn, but sounds like you made a good exploitative read in the moment.
Peter, can you then explain why he called a check raise on the flop?........Calls a $940 bet on the turn and then folds to an All in on the river when making the Flush?
@@charlescorcoran5424 Because of the villain's river sizing. If villain bets 2/3rd pot, then Lex pretty much _has_ to call. But with 1.5x sizing, and with Lex holding pretty much the worst flush he'll ever have there, _plus_ holding the 6 _and_ 8 of clubs which block alot of the villain's middle suited connector holdings, I think that the fold is probably correct. Again, villain jams _1.5x_ against a range that should have a ton of made flushes in it. In the villain's shoes, are you expecting any flush holdings that Lex arrives at the river with to fold? If you don't expect a lot of folds, why blast off? I really don't think the villain is balanced here, I think he's weighted towards value... and all his value has Lex beat.
@@charlescorcoran5424 Flop: I think as played with the massive c-bet on flop that a fold could be the right play here. Call can't be terrible, but will put us in tricky spots for sure. Turn: No way we can fold this when picking up additional equity and vs a relatively small sizing. The 8 alone is good sometimes and we can call down vs reasonable sizings on clubs, 8s, and sometimes 6s. Probably makes sense to fold unimproved flush draws here like 97cc meaning we have fewer flushes by the river. River: Vs 160% on the river this becomes a much trickier spot. MDF says we need to call ~ 38% of our range vs this sizing here which makes this a pretty clear theoretical call. This sizing doesn't make much sense unless villain is targeting exactly a flush though. His range should contain a lot of, 22, 33, K2s, K3s, and some flushes (Axcc, and potentially some QJcc, QTcc, or Q9cc if he thinks Lex is too passive). Since his sets and 2 pair obviously want to take a smaller sizing on this board targeting something like AK, he is basically repping Axcc, or one of the partial Qxcc combos. Since most people would typically have one sizing on this board to avoid getting raised as much when they have sets or 2 pair, you have to ask yourself which sizing villain's bluffs will default to? From experience vs TAGs they almost always default to bluffing with the smaller sizing (a clear example of somebody who does this is Rampage - his overbets are ridiculously weighted towards value). This combined with the fact that it's hard to name more than like 6 combos of bluffs that he will mostly just have at low frequencies (3 of 54s, and 3 of Ac5x) makes this sizing seem very underbluffed. So in general I think most villains are underbluffing with this sizing, and we can exploitatively overfold.
This is a tough spot, no doubt. I am going back to the observation Lex made about the player from previous hands... called 2p without raising. With just that info, what is villain blasting off with a raise post flop, bet post turn and blasted post river when the board texture has changed? I don't see a consistent story from the villain here which would have just tilted me towards a call... and yeah, maybe I would have got stacked

One of the best videos I have seen from you in a while, playing 5-10 seems to be your sweet spot, but playing those bigger games is what you need to do to get better, 100% agree. Loved how you realised after that 86c hand that this game was too big, if your AA won first up and you were not stuck you probably call 86c. I will refer to Doyle Brunson regarding playing 86 hand: It is in Limit holdem - Drawing Dead section under title "Draws that should be played cautiously" where he presents same 86 suited hand and recommends playing it as cheaply as possible; and regarding AA hand in No limit holdem - Big pairs played carefully section under title " AA and KK how to play on the flop" recommends playing them vary cautiously from an early position when there is three cards that will make a straight or a flash on the flop. My thinking about over betting the river in this specific situation explained by you is that he either has Ace club and excellent read on you (maybe by watching your videos) or Nuts, which is more likely and I would also fold it. You are my favorite vlogger and poker person. Just continue improving your and our games.

“Sometimes you have to be able to fold the best hand” - Phil Helmouth quote I believe. I know this was aimed at tournament play but can still apply if an $11K loss could seriously derail you. Whilst MUCH easier to do on line ( where I largely play) having picked your level for the night try and convert pot / bet sizes into blinds helped me move up when dollar size felt too big. Love your channel and stay brave you want to be a winner in life generally and because of that even if you made a decent living grinding I don’t think you would be happy. Good luck Lex

Oh and the 8/6 hand you Are beat there I think he has combo draw on flop with A2 or A4 clubs and got there on river with stack depths being ackward he didn’t know how to bet so went all in over bet to try and look bluffy when he had the nuts there also why wouldn’t he show if he didn’t have it too like you said strong fold and correct one as well that is to me what his bet sizing looked like as well A2-A4 clubs

I hear what you're saying, but let's say it's a 1/2 game. This will be an easier example. You'll probably be calling more often due to the players. Right? On one of those dumb games on an AP. I've seen players , multiway, on the river in PLO re-pot 2nd hi straight when the front door flush rivers that also paired the board. You can't look only at the game size. I think it’s fair to say that he had the nuts there whether it was ace low card of clubs or a suited nut Broadway draw. It’s a great fold because you only beat 7 4 of clubs and there wasn’t any bluffs in his range that would 1.5 the pot on the River especially not knowing what he’s moving his stack into when your still to act. Pro fold, you have to go with your gut and it’s really tough when your stuck stacks & want to recuperate your losses. Anyway, I’m been watching your vids for a while now & you make great content! If you haven’t already done so, hiring an editor might be a valuable (if not inevitable and necessary) utility as long as the editor doesn’t overcomplicate the production. However, you should observe that since Andrew Neeme hired an editor, the connection to the subs has suffered and his posting frequency has tanked. If you do get an editor, insist that they put out a production exactly the way you would do it as if you were doing it yourself. In fact, I don’t even wanna know you have an editor…don’t go out of your way to hide it or be cheesey and play it off, like it’s all you, but it’s superfluous and counterproductive.
There are good reasons why you shouldn’t let an editor change your format…player point of view is not only more than good enough, it gives you an intimate connection with your viewers. It’s fine to mix in live stream POV with your voiceover, but the player POV (especially in your case) works, don’t mess with that. Remember that Brad Owens has kept it really simple and it works…don’t be afraid to experiment with originality, but also don’t be afraid to leverage proven models.
You’re going to be a monster if you stay the course. You have a great work ethic and determination, so I like your chances.
Being able to lose +6k, go home, take a nap, shake it off, them come back and profit for the day really shows lots of mental fortitude on your part. I'd definitely talk to some poker friends about the 86cc hand but in my non professional opinion it seems like a sigh-call. Great rebound buddy and keep up the great work!

Well said. Lex's money management is topnotch. But I think 86cc was a trivial fold. Villain is almost never bluffing. If you're in this spot 20 times, I guarantee that you'll make more money by folding.
I think Lex's point about how the villain played his earlier bottom-two-pair as a check-call across 3 streets is a really good one. That type of player who takes the passive line in that spot is less likely to be balanced when he overbet jams the river, and if he _did_ have a bluff there, he's almost certainly going to show the table so that he can get paid later. If you're the player type that goes low-variance with hands like bottom two, you _need_ to advertise your bluffs. So I think the villain is disproportionately likely to be trying to cooler a lower flush there, gives his river sizing.

Just because he folded doesn't mean it is a good fold. Not gone to the solver, but I'd argue this was a bad fold in the majority of cases. Flushes are amazing 'bluff catchers', as they block both your opponents chances he has flushes. Also given the size of the bet and the size of the pot I don't think I ever fold that. Would need some seriously crazy reads, and the reads he gave imo weren't worth a fold.

Table selection is so important and knowing when the table is too tough. Friday, Saturday, and Holidays during the evening hours are best for me. I have played a lot of sessions from 4 in the afternoon to 4 in the morning. If there is only one table playing at the stakes you want, think about calling around to see if there is more action somewhere else, or consider dropping down where there is more action. Glad you were able to take a nap, eat, and get your head back together and go back to book a win. You can't do anything about bad beats or suck-outs, they are part of the game. Scared money can't win, if you worry about the size of your loss, then you need to drop back down and build your bankroll. Love your vids, keep up the grind.

Playing smaller stakes and winning, then jumping into a bigger game and losing does you no good in the long run. Finding a middle ground and sticking with that for awhile until you are comfortable then moving up to play steadily at the high stakes makes more sense. As you mentioned allowing the dollar amount to influence your game causes negative thought as you are probably going to talk yourself into a fold more often than not. Don't play games that are going to hurt you if you lose your whole stack or you'll just give it away a little at a time. I’m not entirely sure there is much value in *ever* playing Bellagio $10/20. Its mostly pros. Go to LA or maybe play the uncapped $5/10 at the Wynn… Going to have to play a lot wider 4 handed and that means higher variance. Personally I wouldn’t want to play in a higher variance situation when playing higher stakes.
I respectfully disagree. You have to take shots, from time to time. You also have to put more emphasis on game selection when you move up. He took a shot, ran bad, got put in the blender. He recognized it, and left. That's how you move up. Right?

Good fold there Lex, I put him on a better flush when he decided to jam all in. You came back from that hole which made the video even better🤟👍
He got bluffed
Good fold as played with 86cc. Would recommend a smaller c-bet on those types of boards in the future though. It keeps pots smaller and allows you to continue with a wider portion of your range facing a raise. The large bet polarizes you in a spot where you don't need to polarize with range advantage. The big sizing lets villain put you on a narrower range of strong Kx, AA, sets and flush draws. I think the massive sizing on the river is just him trying to cooler you with the nut flush because he realizes so much of your range will be hands like 64cc, 54cc, 65cc, QJcc etc with the big flop bet. My guess is theoretically this is an MDF call if you are folding most of your flush draws without additional equity on the turn, but sounds like you made a good exploitative read in the moment.
Peter, can you then explain why he called a check raise on the flop?........Calls a $940 bet on the turn and then folds to an All in on the river when making the Flush?
@@charlescorcoran5424 Because of the villain's river sizing. If villain bets 2/3rd pot, then Lex pretty much _has_ to call. But with 1.5x sizing, and with Lex holding pretty much the worst flush he'll ever have there, _plus_ holding the 6 _and_ 8 of clubs which block alot of the villain's middle suited connector holdings, I think that the fold is probably correct. Again, villain jams _1.5x_ against a range that should have a ton of made flushes in it. In the villain's shoes, are you expecting any flush holdings that Lex arrives at the river with to fold? If you don't expect a lot of folds, why blast off? I really don't think the villain is balanced here, I think he's weighted towards value... and all his value has Lex beat.
@@charlescorcoran5424 Flop: I think as played with the massive c-bet on flop that a fold could be the right play here. Call can't be terrible, but will put us in tricky spots for sure.
Turn: No way we can fold this when picking up additional equity and vs a relatively small sizing. The 8 alone is good sometimes and we can call down vs reasonable sizings on clubs, 8s, and sometimes 6s. Probably makes sense to fold unimproved flush draws here like 97cc meaning we have fewer flushes by the river.
River: Vs 160% on the river this becomes a much trickier spot. MDF says we need to call ~ 38% of our range vs this sizing here which makes this a pretty clear theoretical call. This sizing doesn't make much sense unless villain is targeting exactly a flush though. His range should contain a lot of, 22, 33, K2s, K3s, and some flushes (Axcc, and potentially some QJcc, QTcc, or Q9cc if he thinks Lex is too passive). Since his sets and 2 pair obviously want to take a smaller sizing on this board targeting something like AK, he is basically repping Axcc, or one of the partial Qxcc combos. Since most people would typically have one sizing on this board to avoid getting raised as much when they have sets or 2 pair, you have to ask yourself which sizing villain's bluffs will default to? From experience vs TAGs they almost always default to bluffing with the smaller sizing (a clear example of somebody who does this is Rampage - his overbets are ridiculously weighted towards value). This combined with the fact that it's hard to name more than like 6 combos of bluffs that he will mostly just have at low frequencies (3 of 54s, and 3 of Ac5x) makes this sizing seem very underbluffed. So in general I think most villains are underbluffing with this sizing, and we can exploitatively overfold.
This is a tough spot, no doubt. I am going back to the observation Lex made about the player from previous hands... called 2p without raising. With just that info, what is villain blasting off with a raise post flop, bet post turn and blasted post river when the board texture has changed? I don't see a consistent story from the villain here which would have just tilted me towards a call... and yeah, maybe I would have got stacked

I will refer to Doyle Brunson regarding playing 86 hand: It is in Limit holdem - Drawing Dead section under title "Draws that should be played cautiously" where he presents same 86 suited hand and recommends playing it as cheaply as possible; and regarding AA hand in No limit holdem - Big pairs played carefully section under title " AA and KK how to play on the flop" recommends playing them vary cautiously from an early position when there is three cards that will make a straight or a flash on the flop. My thinking about over betting the river in this specific situation explained by you is that he either has Ace club and excellent read on you (maybe by watching your videos) or Nuts, which is more likely and I would also fold it. You are my favorite vlogger and poker person. Just continue improving your and our games.

“Sometimes you have to be able to fold the best hand” - Phil Helmouth quote I believe. I know this was aimed at tournament play but can still apply if an $11K loss could seriously derail you.
Whilst MUCH easier to do on line ( where I largely play) having picked your level for the night try and convert pot / bet sizes into blinds helped me move up when dollar size felt too big.
Love your channel and stay brave you want to be a winner in life generally and because of that even if you made a decent living grinding I don’t think you would be happy.

Are beat there I think he has combo draw on flop with A2 or A4 clubs and got there on river with stack depths being ackward he didn’t know how to bet so went all in over bet to try and look bluffy when he had the nuts there also why wouldn’t he show if he didn’t have it too like you said strong fold and correct one as well that is to me what his bet sizing looked like as well A2-A4 clubs

I've seen players , multiway, on the river in PLO re-pot 2nd hi straight when the front door flush rivers that also paired the board. You can't look only at the game size. Hey buddy after watching the video and you providing analysis of the tight pro check calling with two pair earlier on in the night. I think it’s fair to say that he had the nuts there whether it was ace low card of clubs or a suited nut Broadway draw. It’s a great fold because you only beat 7 4 of clubs and there wasn’t any bluffs in his range that would 1.5 the pot on the River especially not knowing what he’s moving his stack into when your still to act. Pro fold, you have to go with your gut and it’s really tough when your stuck stacks & want to recuperate your losses. Anyway, I’m been watching your vids for a while now & you make great content! Be proud of yourself & keep grinding until you capture your dream bro🤙
