UNBELIEVABLE. I fixed my cutting out vacuum with a paper and some isopropynol alcohol and it stopped cutting in the highest power. I was just about to change the cells to VTC-6 ones, but thanks to your video I don't have to do it.
Thank you so much for posting this. I followed your instructions completely, including the drilling of the hole and, in addition to working correctly, it feels very robust now. Always felt a bit flimsy before. I didn't have a concave washer (to better fit the aperture of the opening mechanism you've drilled into) but made one by placing it over an open 1/2" socket of about 17 or 18mm diameter (to fit the flat washer) and using a countersink and hammer to knock the middle down into the socket a bit. Worked a treat for me. Thanks again.
Thank you for the suggestion - a very elegant approach, using an existing mount point. I have the same problem. It is now working properly again: hopefully this will fix things for the lifetime of the vacuum cleaner.
I was given one of the cleaners by a friend; the problem I have is that the power slider switch won't slide between setting number two and the Turbo setting. I have experienced cut out, but the upper handle seems very rigid. Great helpful video, thank you.
Had this vacuum sitting around not being used because it was cutting out, watched your video while in lock-down. Hey presto hubby fixed it. Just the loose handle.
Useful, have two Athlets, both developed similar problem. One needed the screw, the other was fine with a sliver of plastic inserted behind the contacts to narrrow the gap as suggested by another youtuber. Was ready to buy a new corded vacuum cleaner before seeing this.
Did just the fix with the power connector unit, as the handle bar is still in good shape. The part on the vacuum module, I fixed by squeezing the two connecting pins in each rail a bit more together with a knife blade (be very careful). That helped, and now it runs as good as new:)
I've had 2 of these. I thought the first one was just flawed. I ripped it apart and made it better, but never found that that connection was the issue. However, this second one I bought is getting bad in the same way. I just followed your cleaning advice with some contact cleaner. Works great. Many thanks :-)
Thank you for that demo I will definitely try it . Hopefully it won’t just fix the cutting out but also re enable the sliding button to reach the turbo setting . At the moment only have the two speeds .
Thanks for this advice, very helpful. Mine was fixed by a good flush out with contact cleaner which must have blasted out the dirt or dust which was causing it to cut out. I’m keeping the big screw ready if it happens again!
Worked very well thank you. The odd hex headed screw came out with a smallish screw driver wedged in one side so no need to find an obscure driver bit.
Brilliant that information Was excellent regarding the handle removing I think it’s just for transportation small box so get more in a container thanks again
Xmas eve and already cold sweats from the prospect of Boxing day queues to buy a new hoover! Then thinks lets see if any anorak has found a fix for my intermittent Athlet. Well your honour you may disrobe the anorak and replace it with well deserved ermine as you've just saved me £200 and 3hrs of my life. You are a prince.
We use this as a second vacuümcleaner....we don't use it much at all....have the same problem now....sometimes fall out while using it...sometimes don't turn on at all...
Hi there. Brilliant fix for a design fault. Silly question but which screwdriver did you use? I have the T set but my screwdrivers can't resolve the 'nodule in the middle of the screw head' problem... Thanks in advance for your response
Blisteringbarnacles2 Hi, I can't quite remember the screw head shape, those nodules are security anti tamper thing, so if you Google one of those search names, you'll be able to buy the right screwdriver. Good luck
In my case it was the worn out connector pads on the handle side PCB. Applying solder to the pads fixed the issue, see flic.kr/p/29Gyamy Secondly, there is a pretty wide wire running inside the handle from the switch to the connector so one has to be extra careful to not damage it with the screw.

Thanks for this. Mine has this intermittent problem. Now though it won't charge anymore. The light comes on for a second on the sensor control but then when I plug it in to charge it everything goes out. No lights or power at all. I'm wondering if I need a new lithium battery? Had the hoover about 2 years. Can you advise?
@@Gultronics We have the excact same problem with no charging. I have measured the charger and it works flawless giving 30 v and 500 mA. Have you found a way to solve the problem with no charge ?
Hi I have problem with hoover. After 2 years of use won't change to full it will stop charging in half way. After charging when I'm using is showing just two blue lights instead 3. Any idea what can be wrong with it? Thanks
Thanks for reply. Is like this for almost a month. Before was all good when was fully charged blue lihgts just stopped flashing but stayed on. Now they flashing but after 50% they will turn off. Thanks again for reply

It worked. Didn't need the screw just cleaned the connector. I'm stoked. Thanks and blessings.

Thanks a lot for posting this. Helped me fix my vacuum and saved money by not buying a new one!

Just done the repair and it works fine. Thank you for the advice. 😊😊

Thanks very much for this simple but effective fix, working a treat now!

Excellent!
Different Bosh model but same handle/connectors logic here...
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks a lot! Good workaround for a bad design.
Glad it helped ;-)
Glad it helped... did you do the same fix?
Great - I have the exact same problem with my cleaner. I will be fixing it today!
Glad it helped!
Thanks a lot, you saved our money🙏

Cheers! I think my Athlet is about two years old, so the designers had two years to respond to your suggestion, but didn't. Sigh.
What is the right key needed to disassemble the various parts in the handle? I have used various types but unlucky with all of them
We have this problem, thanks for the video, we would never have known what it was.

That's right. Fixing the pads should be done before screwing the whole handle down.
What happens if you screw that screw into an wire? Not quite sure.
Hi Looks good but what size screw did you use please /
I think it was a couple of inches, but measure before drilling!
Ok Many thanks
is there no power cables running down from that socket?
There are some components behind the socket.
Just about to drill but concerned wiring for socket will be directly underneath.
Take the handle off and check, it's easy to see the loom before you commit with the drill.
Ah yes, I can see the wires go either side.

It Draws Attention To The Build Quality, Which I Initially Thought Better Of.
I think it's intended for 'light occassional use' but I guess that's subjective. Build quality could be improved.

Hard to say without seeing it. Maybe check the condition of the charger lead, which can be prone to cracking and shorting out. Good luck.
Same problem
got two of these hoovers and both had have charger port problems

Not sure why the person couldn't respond back to you with a direct answer. It sounds like the battery is worn out on your machine and needs replacing.

It could be a few things. Check all connections and leave on charge every time you finish using it
