The thing about Idols is that in Korea they are actually viewed as manufactured which is true because Agencies usually scout them at early age and train them for years then debut them in groups. Most of them just do what their are told and go with the lyrics and songs that are given to them by their Companies. A lot of Idols rap because their voices are not that good and they go with generic rapping to kinda compensate, so because of that hip hop artists there look down upon them. Both Rap Mon and Suga were underground rappers previously so because they joined BTS they considered them sellouts and bashed them a lot. The differences is that unlike others they write their own lyrics, music and take active part in the producing of their songs as well as BTSs. They always talk about their experiences, social issues, mental illnesses and so on, they have deep messages in their songs which makes them as real as they can be. They are constantly looking to improve themselves and judging by their skills and potential they will get even better (and i will be here for it ^^). I also love their Company BigHit and CEO because they always encouraged them and gave them freedom to be creative and most importantly be themselves. JHope is doing the same and the only differences is that he was mostly focused on dancing and started to rap only after he joined BTS. He grew tremendously over the past 3 years and now he is getting closer and closer to Rap Mon and Suga's level. All 3 of them are impressive in their own way, they have different flows, styles an colours. Rap Mon is more technical and lyrical, Suga is raw, both with delivery and flow while JHope is more playful and free spirited. The compliment each other so well. Woow that was long, i guess i got carried away hehe. Sorry for the Novel and i hope it helped you understand their situation. Keep up with the awesome reactions
There are alot if idols.. but I'll use Jackson of Got7 who I LOVE so don't think I am bashing him, but he's even said himself, he isnt a rapper, he just raps. There is a difference, There are idols who the company wants to be in whatever specific group but their vocals aren't that great so they'll be told, "You're going to be the rapper" They then get instructed and coached on how to say their rap lines. Like if you asked them to come up with a freestyle rap on the spot they wouldn't be able to do it.
If you are an idol in korea that means that you were trained for years to sing, dance, and performe befor they even let you debute. most korean people dont think of them as real singers just manufactured entertainment and many are even surprised when idol singer can sing well even outside their idol schedule. k-pop is seen as this whole thing were entertainment companys put out like a group per year like a brand of clothing and only children like it because thay dont know its not real music and stuff like that. they have like "real singers" and idol singers just like underground rappers and idol rappers who were thaught to rap. for exampel on a show were rapmonster was a part of the cast a friend of his, jackson of the group got7 said something like this to the other cast members:" I rap, but im not a rapper. RapMon is a rapper, Im not. I just rap.", because he dosent write his own lyrics and he cant rap freestyle and he was asigned the position of rapper by his company.
he is right cause his not going all out cause his an idol! in Korea, kpop artists are known as idol cause they literally are for the nation(company made) ... they always have to keep a positive image and as for songs like these are not allowed to be aired in Korea for their a conservative nation still...but this song was the most viewed when it first came out in last August!!! glad you liked it :)
the rappers his aiming at are underground rappers which he was a part of before he came up into society... underground rappers are like any rappers where they can sing or do just what they want as for idol they have to keep a positive image due to being in the public eyes...fun fact : rap monster and suga were underground rappers before they wanted more in life so basically their haters are the underground rappers that bullies them for leaving and becoming an idol! a lot of rappers has left that rap life cause they want to succeed and become something of themselves which they did but haters will always follow them! lol that's why suga said' all rappers should be thankful his an idol " cause his a beast!
first like, first comment! I just suggested you this song in your other reaction xD I re-write here my suggestions, just in case you didn't read my other comment: AGUST D - THE LAST and FIRST LOVE. J-hope have less songs, because he is working right now ti his mixtape. But I can suggest MAMA and 1Verse 😊 Take your time!
In korea underground and independent rappers are looking down on Idols who are more manufactured and the Idol rappers usually can't rap that well. In 2000's and early 2010's boy group rappers weren't that good so there's kind of a stigma to that. And even now in 2017 idol rappers arent taken seriously by the "real rappers" It's different in BTS because Suga & rapmon were actually underground rappers before and make their own lyrics/produce their songs. So they have a talent that most of the Idols don't have. But they are still looked down by the "real rappers" especially because they are using make up, dancing etc.
'K-pop' is to us, or at least to me, a way of categorising popular Korean music. However, some of these salty underground rappers and even some mainstream ones who saw these boys blow up have been shit talking them for 'giving up on the struggle' and 'taking the easy route' by becoming idols. The fact is, Suga and Rap Mon used to also be in the underground scene and now they bust their asses even more than they used to, the only difference being that they're actually making good money now because people have recognised their talent. As an idol in Korea, some kids are scouted at the age of 8-10 even, and then they train like crazy to eventually debut and even then their lives are certainly not easy but some people are just jealous and refuse to acknowledge that. As an idol you also have to be well rounded so there are plenty of examples out there where Rap mon and Suga talk about not having an easy time coming to terms with the fact that while BTS was meant to be a solely rap/hip hop group, to penetrate into the mainstream they all had to wear makeup, look good and learn to sing and dance as well as rap. That's why they feel the need to mention to these constant haters that they're still working hard and while they're idols they're also no less rappers than they are. This being said, not everybody is just hating and there are even some giants of the Korean hip hop scene such as MFBTY (Yoon mirae, Bizzy, Tiger JK) who for example acknowledged rap monster for his skills and even did a few songs with him. The show 'Show me the money' (rap survival show) has also become a big thing when it comes to idols wanting to prove themselves against underground rappers. You can hear Suga talking about it on his song 'The Last' where he says that is wasn't that he couldn't do show me the money, but that he said he wouldn't, presumably to not get involved in that beef. Sorry for the long reply :)
Glad to see this Up and it dose have a video and they usually put up eng subs for all their videos ^^ You should check out AgustD - The Last (That song hit hard from many different reasons because he is talking about his struggles and depression, he really went all out on that one) J Hope has 2 solos also ,1 Verse and Mama (Both are very different as style and equally awesome, the best thing about it is that he is working on his Mixtape which most probably will droop this year. Can't wait for it
the topic you brought up about the whole rapper vs idol is actually how the cyhpers came to be a rapper bfree was throwing shade at rapmonster and suga because they stopped being underground rappers and became idols bfree thinks that if you wear makeup and dance and stuff that your not allowed to be a rapper that your a joke but like you said here in America that's not a problem because everyone understands that if you do stage performances you always have to wear makeup otherwise your washed out with all the lights but bfree was in my opinion using them being idols as a cover for his jealousy because he knows rapmonster and suga and J-hope where originally underground rappers and they made it in the world and now can get their music heard all over the world and they make a decent amount of money so in a sense you can tell he was just jealous that he didn't make it big like they have bfree also thought they had everything handed to them but that's far from the truth but yeah basically the rapper vs idol conflict in my opinion it just petty and yes J-hope has some songs mama and boy meets evil
J-hope has a song called 1Verse that he mentioned in one of the Cypers. BTS put on their last album called WINGS individual solo songs for each member, and these songs are: - Jin ~ Awake - Suga ~ First love - J-hope ~ Mama - Rap monster ~ Reflection - Jimin ~ Lie - V ~ Stigma - Jungkook ~ Begin All of their solo songs are amazing and I honestly can't choose a favorite one. Unfortunatly J-hope doesn't have anymore songs, but he is working on his mixtape that he will probably realise sometime this year. And can you please react to Agust D - The last? That song song is really amazing, especially the lyrics. Lots of love from your Slovenian fan
Yeah, as other comments have already elaborated on, the word "idol" has taken on a much more specific meaning in Korea than it originally has in English. It's almost like a job title for a specific type of manufactured entertainer, usually boy/girl groups. In recent years the stigma of being an idol has lessened but there's still a prevailing idea that idols aren't genuine or have no real talent.
Haha idols are mainly referred to as kpop artists (top 40 pop music in american context) so rappers often try to distinguish themselves as "real hip-hop artists" but as long as they have a talent for writing lyrics, creating flow and having a good beat i think its good
J-hope- 1 verse and Mama edit: I remembered this too late and I wanna kick myself for forgetting our beautiful J-hope's Intro Boy Meets Evil song. Ugh it's such a masterpiece and comes in art form (aka dance video) you should check that out also. (Can't get over the fact that I forgot he also has another solo other than mama...I'm going to now go in a corner and cry while listening to it bye)
To answer about the idol vs. rapper. Idols are seen as manufactured because kpop groups are always getting "created" by Korea entertainment companies (being told what to do etc). And hip hop isn't popular in Korea as much as you'd think. So underground rappers look down upon rappers becoming idols in kpop groups because it is like they are selling out and losing touch of true hip hop. However, Bts wasn't really a manufactured group as the group was formed because of Rap monster mainly, saying that if their company Bighit doesn't let him write the music he wants he won't work with them. That is what differentiates Bts rappers to other kpop groups as they write about controversial stuff like underground rappers would, especially with their solo work.
Awesome Reaction!! Idols are People that are able to do anything. So you wont See idols only singing and rapping but also MC on Shows, Participate on varaity shows (for Exemaple Rapmon was a regular on the show Problematic man before) They are also Trained to be Actors they basiclly do anything that can be aired on tv. Companys Train idols at a young age so that they can debut as soon as possible. The Feature of being good at anything and also Look pretty/handsome makes them an idol. But being an idol doesnt mean that they do everything themself. The Company makes their songs and Choreos. But I have to mention that for a time now idols try to Participate behind the scenes of the making as much as possible bcs Most of them dont agree to sing lyrics and songs that arent really theirs :) bts's Company BIGHIT didnt want an idol group originally that is why bts are all writers and Producers themselfs. Unlike some Other idols They learned to Write and Produce when they were Trainees. A song from jhope that I Would recommend is MAMA and BOY MEETS EVIL he also has a mixtape called 1VERSE (only one song sadly) Alsooooooo Rap Monster had a collab with an Other artist again could you react to it? :) The Track is called "Gajah" (elephant) and Its by Gaeko. Rapmon is featured in this and Its a rap Track. The Music video on the channel 1TheK has lyrics on it you just have to click on CC :) Lots of love and Greetings👋👍
"Idol" means member of a boy band or girl group created by a company when you're talking about K-pop. There's always been crossover between k-pop and k-hip hop but there's still stigma against those who abandon the latter for the former like RM and Suga. They've talked and written about this a lot in things like RM's "Awakening," which I recommend. It's really interesting. You won't know the difference, and what they do with BTS until you react to it. But BTS is also a very special idol group. As for J-Hope, I recommend the MV for Boy Meets Evil. He's an idol rapper but also a former underground dancer, and that vid sure shows it.
i'm loving your channel more and more now. although, no offence, i just came whenever i see BTS on the title but u yourself just genuine with your reaction and how u started all with RM's rap then to all them 3( Suga & Jhope) and lastly to all them BTS. Unlike lately the all new reactors of BTS(no offence. just my observation). you the realest man... keep uploading whatever content you feel like too. imma still be coming back.
The thing with the idol in Korea is this: it is a stereotype that is held in Korea because the idol are beautiful, dance, sing, rape, are models, act, but most are not involved in their own music, Companies give a song to record and are mostly for a teen market, of course this is not all cases, there are many idols that make up their own music, produce and are involved in all aspects of their music. but most do not have that freedom. in this case RM and suga have always been criticized for becoming idol, they were underground rappers, underground rappers see idol rappers as dolls created by their company, who have no real talent so you will always hear the distinction between rappers and idol rappers, that's what SUGA means with their lyrics.
Being a Korean (or Japanese) idol has less to do with popularity or being looked up to and more to do with a culture that has been produced in eastern music industries. There are plenty of unsuccessful idols. There are many differences between companies and of course culture is always changing, but here's a rundown or what it typically means to be an idol. They sign contracts with companies at very young ages, sometimes as young as 10 but usually somewhere in the teenage years. They are expected to train very hard in singing, dancing, rap, and acting. If they don't meet certain standards quickly enough they can be dropped at any time. Once they are deemed ready they can be put into a group and debut. Idols are expected to act and look a certain way and devote all of their lives to their fans. But if they are successful they can get very wealthy and have a very comfortable life.
"Rapper should be thankful that am an idol". In short, he would beat them up if they f*** with him lol idk (^^;) Maybe he saying that, because if he was not an idol and just a rapper he can say whatever he want and do whatever he want ^^
I understand it that way too. If Yoongi was still in the korean underground rap scenario he would slay those rappers who now diss him in rap battles like he used to do.
I'd like to add to what other people were saying by pointing out that idols are usually restricted from saying anything that could be construed as controversial, in order to maximize profit potential for the company. There was a girl group member from Taiwan a while back, for example, who was caught on camera waving the Taiwanese flag, and the Chinese fans and investors in her group's company flipped their shit (because China's still salty that they don't own the island anymore), demanding (and getting) a miserable apology video where she had to say she was Chinese, not Taiwanese. Basically part of what Agust D's saying is that these underground dudes should thank their lucky stars he's contractually obligated to not bring up any of the dirt from the old days he probably has on some of them.
Nice nice nice reaction. I mean, Whatever your reaction is, I like it real and honest. Thank you for that 😊 Okay, so let me tell u that BTS is "Bang! Tan! Sonyeondan" in english, BTS means "Bangtan Boys" or "Bulletproof Boy Scout". BTS has 7 members. I repeat, " 7 MEMBERS". So, there are not only Rapmon(the Leader), Suga(Agust D) and J-Hope. Those 3 are the rapper line in BTS. They are also have 4 vocals (male singers) which is I mean their vocals are amazing like really really good. They are Jin, Jungkook, Jimin, and V. BTS as 7 members are one of many groups in Kpop. They do music, sing, Dance (let me tell u that J-HOPE is The BEST DANCER IN BTS like realllllly really great dancer! React to him dance next time maybe? 😁) and that group in Kpop has so maaaaany fans so that makes them an IDOL. Idol in Kpop usually wear some makeup even for male. They also usually do what company told to do, just sing the song the company gave to the group, etc. I think thats what make BTS's RM and Suga were dissed by rapper name B-Free because they are rapper idol. Which mean for B-Free they are not a true rapper or fake rapper. B-Free dissed them infront of many underground rappers (so that where is cypher pt.2 and pt.3 had come, thats the story). But what makes BTS different is that they proof ppl what they are capable of, and how talented they are. Every single member in BTS is a talented person. BTS produce the songs, write the lyrics, dancing so hard (BTS choreo is hardcore, man. And its lit!), they practice 12 hours everyday, BTS also can act, and rap ofc. Simple say that BTS is art. You'll know what I'm saying when u react to BTS (as a 7 members group) song or Music Video. *sigh... sorry too long......... I hope u can read my comment. And thank you very much 😀
For J-Hope you should definitely check out Verse 1 or Boy meets evil Wings trailer!! BTW love your reactions! It seems like you have a really deep appreciation for rapping. :D Also, I'm just pointing this out, I think the audio of the music video is a bit too loud. I sometimes can't even hear what you're saying. Sorry if this was already pointed out before. Peace!
Hardcore Korean rappers don't consider themselves idols coz that title is only associated with kpop. They are rappers and not kpop singers or as they refer to as kpop idols... At least this is the reason I know. So I guess what Suga was trying to say was if I am not an idol, I am gonna slay everyone of you with my rap. Nyahahahaha
Rap Monster and Suga were once insulted by underground rappers on live television. They said Suga and Rap are not really hip hop. That they are fake. They were called gays because idols wear make ups. there's a video on youtube on this. IHATED that dude. Anyway, I commend Rap Monster and Suga, they stayed calm and collected (while I was fuming), answered and handled the situation well.
Meaning..... He CAN'T come for you like he wants to. With cuss words and put your business on front street. Korean idols still have to be politicians. Be diplomatic. It is considered disrespectful to do so, unlike Americans, who will send you to your grave worth words.
The thing about Idols is that in Korea they are actually viewed as manufactured which is true because Agencies usually scout them at early age and train them for years then debut them in groups. Woow that was long, i guess i got carried away hehe. Sorry for the Novel and i hope it helped you understand their situation. Keep up with the awesome reactions
I couldn't have said it any better! So i'll just say DITTO to what Kaya said! lol
Kaya N I was about to say that LOL 😂
Kaya N what do you mean when you say idols rappers go with generic rapping to compensate for what? and how?
There are alot if idols.. but I'll use Jackson of Got7 who I LOVE so don't think I am bashing him, but he's even said himself, he isnt a rapper, he just raps. Ariel Arnold oh ok yeah I get it now thanks and Jackson was a good example to use and im not trying to bash him either but it makes sense.

J-hope has a song called 1Verse that he mentioned in one of the Cypers.

Yeah, as other comments have already elaborated on, the word "idol" has taken on a much more specific meaning in Korea than it originally has in English. Idol is simply the same as a celebrity in America
Haha idols are mainly referred to as kpop artists (top 40 pop music in american context) so rappers often try to distinguish themselves as "real hip-hop artists" but as long as they have a talent for writing lyrics, creating flow and having a good beat i think its good
jhope i still working on his mixtape T_T

J-hope- 1 verse and Mama
edit: I remembered this too late and I wanna kick myself for forgetting our beautiful J-hope's Intro Boy Meets Evil song.
Leenah B bless your heart💕

i'm loving your channel more and more now. although, no offence, i just came whenever i see BTS on the title but u yourself just genuine with your reaction and how u started all with RM's rap then to all them 3( Suga & Jhope) and lastly to all them BTS. Unlike lately the all new reactors of BTS(no offence. just my observation). you the realest man... keep uploading whatever content you feel like too. imma still be coming back.
The thing with the idol in Korea is this: it is a stereotype that is held in Korea because the idol are beautiful, dance, sing, rape, are models, act, but most are not involved in their own music, Companies give a song to record and are mostly for a teen market, of course this is not all cases, there are many idols that make up their own music, produce and are involved in all aspects of their music. but most do not have that freedom.
in this case RM and suga have always been criticized for becoming idol, they were underground rappers, underground rappers see idol rappers as dolls created by their company, who have no real talent so you will always hear the distinction between rappers and idol rappers, that's what SUGA means with their lyrics.
when i listen to the song idk how but i can rap the whole song as fast as Suga.
JHope MAMA
J-Hope - 1verse and the the WINGS Boy meets Evil Trailer :)
MV is lit!!! lyrics hella lit too!!!
AND YES, HE HAS A MUSIC VIDEO AND IT HAS SUBTITLES.
All BTS Music Videos have CC. Just turn it on.
He says after this lyrics they should be thankful because i'm an idol and that's because he's always busy and not available for them...
Suga the most cute rapper that i know. Lol.
But if they are successful they can get very wealthy and have a very comfortable life.
jhope boy meets evil, but not the lyric video the official video so you can see his dance skills.

Jhope 1verse!!! must watch !!his mixtape is coming out soon!!!
"Rapper should be thankful that am an idol". In short, he would beat them up if they f*** with him lol idk (^^;)
Maybe he saying that, because if he was not an idol and just a rapper he can say whatever he want and do whatever he want ^^
Thank you for that 😊
Okay, so let me tell u that BTS is "Bang!

Nyahahahaha
can you uplode your reaction to the real mv?

Jhope Verse1?
I can't hear anything he was saying
