What a great interview! I think Clint Walker was the most handsome man ever to be in Hollywood. He was a good and kind gentleman too! I sure miss the westerns of my childhood. Heck, alot of them were reruns when I first saw them. Sweet memories.

    What a great actor
L.Q. Jones was. Thank you Mr. Jones for playing in SO many westerns like you did
over the years, and also thank you for not
getting weak like some of the other western actors did by playing in and appearing in ridiculous movies like
Star Trek, Star Wars, and Planet Of The Apes. You stayed true to your craft.

I'm a big fan of L. Q. I've run into him a couple of times in the supermarket and he was so kind and affable both times, allowing me to ask questions about Don Johnson and Sam Peckinpah, etc... He is a straight shooter, honest, thoughtful and intelligent in his answers.
His scene in Casino, for which he wrote 3 different versions, is one of the highlights of that film. The fact that Scorsese gave him free reign says volumes about his talent for storytelling and dialog. When I go to that supermarket, I always hope to run into him again!

mybingobrain POV: A guy, knocked onto his back, looks up to see a handful of dimes coming at him (in horrific slo-mo) from the barrel of a shotgun.
My favorite Peckinpah scene. I think I was technically too young to be in the theater, but I was ecstatic over that cinematic magnificence.
Ring a bell? I realize that might be a dumb q to ask a SamFan 😜

L.Q. Jones is always funny and entertaining, and amazingly spry at 91. Please post more of this interview. I would never have guessed that Lee J. Cobb was a very funny man at heart. James Garner said the same thing about the serious character actor, Gerald Mohr, who apparantly never ran out of extremely funny jokes. Clint Walker remains one of my all time favorite actors and Cheyenne is, in my opinion, the finest western ever put on television.

    • @larryhawkins3294
      @larryhawkins3294 5 лет назад +1

Gerald Mohr was a closeted comedian. He appeared on I Love Lucy as a psychiatrist...Treatment Ricky Treatment. He also appeared several times on the Jack Benny program parodying his role as a western villain. Too bad he died so young.

After seeing Mohr play Doc on Maverick, I always liked to think thay he would have reprised his role as Doc Holliday again opposite James Garner who was playing Wyatt Earp in 1967's Hour of the Gun. Instead of Jason Robards. Not to take anything away from him but I liked Mohr playing Holliday on Maverick. But then he was replaced by Peter Breck as Holliday.
Even though some of these actors died young like Mohr, and I wasn't born until the early 1990s I grew up watching re-runs of these shows, from Maverick to Cheyenne, Stev McQueen's Wanted Dead or Alive, all being filmed around the same time late 50s in the Warner Bros lot. I feel sad that now only a couple of them remain. Clint just died a couple years ago and he really came off as a Guy straighter than an arrow with a heart as big as his body was. Now L.Q. and maybe the other Clint, Eastwood are probably the only ones left still kicking, as James Garner passed back in 2014. And deep down we know that in a couple more years, they'll be gone too as it's already July 4, 2020. I'm sad for that. But glad that theyll get to live on through these classic westerns and it's up to us to show the next generation who they were so that they're never forgotten.

Hello, Rob. LQ, ... what a standard he is and was. It seemed for a while that you weren’t watching a real western unless LQ was on it. I loved him on the screen and during his interviews. He did open a bit of a door that needs to be mentioned. That door would open with you in the chair LQ was in. Your history and insight is exceptional, and I hope to hear some of your stories. Thanks, Rob, never stop.

What LQ did on the Cheyenne show is an example of true character, selfless friendship and how to lose money! But he continued to be regularly employed and has aged well - nice to see him still around in his 90's!

My mom was at Univ of Texas with him. I believe she knew him back then. I didn't know he directed "A Boy and his Dog", I love that movie! and he is correct after Ben Johnson (watch him as trooper Tyree ride at a full gallop in the John Ford cavalry trilogy), Glen Ford was the second best riding cowboy also a real life fast draw. I heard the "gun trainer" talking about how fast Ford could clear leather... the fastest in Hollywood he said. Excellent interview!

Excluding Rawhide, in my opinion Cheyenne had the best theme song of any of those 1950s and 1960s westerns, followed closely by Wagon Train and Big Valley.

James Major My sisters and I used to sing the great Cheyenne theme song while doing the dinner dishes each night. Made the chore almost enjoyable.

Another great character actor. Tremendous influence on the western genre but also versatile enough to appear in many non-western themed shows. My favorite? His appearance as County Commissioner Pat Webb in Martin Scorsese's "Casino". Made a huge impact in his short scene and set the ball in motion for the DeNiro character's downfall!
