One of the most heartbreaking line "There's something in my eyes, you know it happens every time time I think about the love that I thought would save me."
The gal that I married (& still am) both encountered some onion cutting just by listening to this song back in the day. Jim was so powerful in his musical style and for 7 years of song writing he was a massive powerhouse!
Glad to see a woman with actual real, genuine empathy these days....and empathy for young men who had this terrible experience over 50 years ago. You're a nice person Angela.
What I love are reactors who can both love the song, connect with it, but also analyze it and realize what it's about. The story of this song, been there, so I can understand exactly what he's doing, and what his logic was...which makes me all the more appreciate how gorgeous the song is...almost makes you forget.
Great reaction. I appreciate your tears. Likely the best heartbreak song of all time. Not too often do you hear a man sing about crying. It's like the operator was his therapist. RIP. Passed at only 30 years old.
Great reaction. I'm old enough to have grown up with this song. Ironically, I didn't know the inspiration for the song. I'm an Army retiree and I've been in those phone lines before and I've seen what a Dear John letter can do to a person. Your reaction is precious and perfect.
One of best songwriters ever. And he’s was an incredible guitarist. Sad his life was cut way too short. Thanks, Jim! Thank you, Angelia! I hope your journey in these songs have brought you joy!
Jim Croce is one of the all time greats. Sadly his life was cut way to short due to a plane crash. He was only his 30's when he died. I love Operator. A sad but great song indeed.
Can't go wrong with Jim Croce. 'Bad Bad Leroy Brown', 'Time in a Bottle', 'You Don't Mess Around with Jim', 'I Got a Name', etc. So many greats hits in such a short time.
She can review a song by Jim every month and not run out for a year or more all those other top 10 hits like "Workin' at the Car Wash Blues", "I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song", "You Don't Mess Around with Jim", "New York's Not My Home", and so many more. He was a flame that burned too bright and his creativity just flew too close to the sun. :( Later on even Queen did a homage with the (imo rather odd) song "Bring Back That Leroy Brown", among so many other bands and artists. Jim was truly missed.
Wonderful reaction (as usual). Excellent writing and acoustic guitar performances. Jim Croce…another music artist who left their mark in a too short period on earth.
Yes, that was the saddest story, just when he was taking off literally and figuratively he died in a plane crash performing at an event he didn’t want to do. Gave us a lot of great tunes in a short time.
Jim Croce, one of the greatest singer songwriters, died tragically just as he was becoming famous. He had a sense of humor that shows up here even in a song about something very painful. 7:03 "there's something in my eyes-- you know it happens every time." Don't apologize-- I like you for that.
I love you so much. You are one of very few young women today that actually still have a soul and a big heart. You wear your heart on your sleeve and you are so precious.. God bless you.
This is a good song, and my favorite by Jim is Time In A Bottle! Goodnight! 🌇🌌 I didn't need to elaborate because you did such a great job in describing and researching the meaning of the lyrics to this song! No wonder I tune into your channel weekly! I will do it until I am no longer here! Have a great one!
Thanks Angela, you’re very attuned to the emotions of a great ‘broken-hearted’ song. A couple years ago on this channel I requested one that also made you cry, and at the time you cursed me (half in jest, I think!) for bringing you to tears. 😂. It was “Rhythm of the Blues” by Mary Chapin Carpenter. ❤ (A great one from the early ‘90s.) But this Croce song is definitely one of the best and most enduring songs from the ‘70s. Great reaction. I can’t remember when exactly I first heard it… but I will say that it took me a few listens before I really got the implications of the line “she’s living in L.A. with my best old ex-friend Ray”. And you got it immediately. Well done!
It's not just the chair-dancing that makes me enjoy your reactions so much. Your authentic reaction to the world around you is evidence you are a good person... the type of person I would want as my friend. Thank you for another superb reaction, Angela. 🤍🎶
I was ten when this song came out. The singer songwriter phenomenon came after the tumult of the 60s and many of those teens from the sixties where turning 30 and turning into adults. with all those problems. What a time it was to grow up hearing this music.
I know the lead acoustic guitar part well, played this one since it debuted. But oh gosh, little attention gets paid to the gorgeous arrangement and other instrument parts. Even the bass guitar was superb, subtle and skillful. Of course, the lyrics were pure narrative poetry. Another Bravo for Angela, very nice reaction. 😇☺️🌹
Jim's wife opened a tavern down by the water front in San Diego Calif. and had many of his instruments on display. He is the lead guitarist in this song.
Croce was just reaching his peak when he died in a plane crash. Check out the album photo of his little daughter and her expression. It will break your heart even more.
❤️jim croce and ❤️your rection videos! My fav reaction video of yours is to Hazy Shade of Winter. Love that song and love how much you loved it. Keep posting and take care njoy ur Christmas!
It was a hit in early 1973. and of course it way before cell phones, we used phone booths to call from somewhere other than your homes, cost a dime, excpet long distance was more change for so much time..I;ve been singing this song for almost 52 years with the guitar. in WWIi my dad got home, wounded, with a purple heart award, in 1946..found out his girl, who ha dbeen wriiting to him as if... was married to someone else. Yes, what a bitch. He found my mom 2 years later and that's why I am able to comment here! So thanks you lousy woman, for making sure I was born 😂 that's perfect revenge for many soldiers who came home from war.
Operator? Anyone remember what a phone operator was and how it impacts this story? You can keep the dime means very little these days. I sure miss Jim.
I remember when it was announced that Jim Croce died in a plane crash. We loved his music and still do. He was a very gifted songwriter and performer. He had a very close loving relationship with his wife. They had a baby boy and Jim was touring so much and he just wanted to be with his family.
Beautiful reaction, Angela ! .. You nailed it with your understanding of the song, and your appreciation of what a wonderful story teller Jim was .. And your sadness at both the story in "Operator" and the story of the soldiers who inspired the song was very touching .. This is my equal favourite song by Jim, along with "Lovers Cross", which I know you would love too.
He died way too soon in a plane crash. I bought this album when I was in high school as soon as it came out. Check OUT "I'll have to say I love You in a Song" and "Alabama Rain."
Every line, every lyric in this song is brilliant. My personal favorite, "living in LA with my best old ex-friend Ray"...mow younger gen people may nit understand references to telephkne booths, tel. operators and you can keep the dime statement. But the song's meaning is transcendent.
Thank you for your reaction to the "Dear John" phenomenon. It happened quite often and many of us were not immune to the heartbreak. Phone calls overseas were difficult and the mail could take weeks. The experience steals your soul although some handled it better than others.
There's many songs that would be on your playlist from Jim Croce. You mentioned break-up songs. Well, he wrote my favorite break-up song called, "One Less Set of Footsteps". Other notable hits are: I've Got A Name, Time in a Bottle, I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song, Big Bad Leroy Brown, Don't Mess Around With Jim, Photographs & Memories, and New York's Not My Home.
He was a wonder, taken way too soon. His beautiful music makes me sad because he was on the radio when we found out he died, my Mom cried and so did I. Even us old metal heads appreciated Jim. RIP.
Jim was a semi-professional musician who was struggling in his career when he and his wife discovered they were expecting. He proceeded to sit down at their kitchen table and write nearly every hit he recorded over the next 2 weeks. Sadly, he never got to see his success due to his untimely death on tour in a plane crash. The record company took advantage of this situation and nearly left his wife Ingrid and son Ben penniless.
Well that really SUCKS!?! And I never even knew that until now.... but maybe there is some truth to that saying that "nice guys finish last"?? But then again there is that Bible verse about the LAST being first...I really just hope he's in much better place now because there still are conditions for making it there, as unpopular as that viewpoint is, I know....
I'll suggest a live interview with song that youtube titled "Jim Croce - Rapid Roy (The Stockcar Boy) | Have You Heard: Jim Croce Live" Jim had a massive number of top 10 hits within just 7 years before passing away too young. Even today song writers and singers would like to have as much "luck" as the unbelievable storyteller Jim Croce.
Jim Croce is a huge part of my childhood so much so that I still listen to him today. Road trip? Jim Croce's Greatest Hits on cd, please and thank you. A fun song is "Roller Derby Queen".
Had the pilot gotten 5 more feet of lift that night in Nachitoches, he would have missed the only tree in the area, and Jim would probably be with us to this very day....
I was 13 when Jim Croce hit #1 with Bad Bad Leroy Brown. I bought the 45 single after seeing him on the Midnight Special. Shortly afterwards is when he was killed in that plane crash. How unfair life can be.
Great song from a fantastic singer songwriter who if he had lived would have charted for decades! Great job by you, how about John Denver and Don McClean!
In Desert Storm we stood in line for phone privileges. Many guys were slamming the phones, screaming at their wives and gfs who were telling them they were finished and wouldn't be there when they came back. Guys crying in the back of the deuce and a half trucks on the way back out to the desert.
One of the most heartbreaking line "There's something in my eyes, you know it happens every time time I think about the love that I thought would save me."
Thanks for saying those words to the song...there are so many words I don't know. A lot of songs are like that.
Came to say the same thing. One of my favorite lines from any song. Top 10 for sure.
The gal that I married (& still am) both encountered some onion cutting just by listening to this song back in the day. Jim was so powerful in his musical style and for 7 years of song writing he was a massive powerhouse!
...but the BEST line is, "Operator, let's forget about this call. No one there I really wanted to talk to."
And for those who may not know what’s in his eyes that he can’t see the number that she just gave him… they are tears.
Glad to see a woman with actual real, genuine empathy these days....and empathy for young men who had this terrible experience over 50 years ago.
You're a nice person Angela.
One of the best singer songwriters ever. I had his best of album and played it to death. He was taken way to soon.
One of the best story tellers. Guitarists too. Time in a Bottle was everyone's wedding song in the 70s. RIP Jim
What I love are reactors who can both love the song, connect with it, but also analyze it and realize what it's about. The story of this song, been there, so I can understand exactly what he's doing, and what his logic was...which makes me all the more appreciate how gorgeous the song is...almost makes you forget.
He's yet another of my favorites of my childhood. He's got dozens and dozens of really good songs.
Jim Croce was amazing ❤❤
this guy was THE storyteller...
Great reaction. I appreciate your tears. Likely the best heartbreak song of all time. Not too often do you hear a man sing about crying. It's like the operator was his therapist. RIP. Passed at only 30 years old.

One of the best singers songwriters of all time RIP Jim
Imagine Jim Croce & John Denver doing a show together
Beautiful song, and you have a sweet soul tearing up like that, Angela! Love your reactions as always! x
Great reaction Angela. Jim was in that great group of singer songwriters who became famous in the late 60’s early 70’s.
Jim Croce is one of the all time greats. Sadly his life was cut way to short due to a plane crash. He was only his 30's when he died. I love Operator. A sad but great song indeed.
"There's something in my eyes. You know it happens every time, I think about the love that I thought would save me." Always gets me.

Time in the bottle by jim crochie is another good one. She left with his best friend
Those feelings run deep. An emotional cry is always a cleanser. You're human after all. I was convinced you were an Angel ahh
"New York's Not My Home" is a beautiful song of Jim's that is worthy of a reaction. Keep them coming, Angela!!!
One of the best story tellers ever. Lost him way too young.
Jim Croce... One of the best singer-song writers who died much to soon.
Great reaction to a really moving song.
Jim Croce, one of the greatest singer songwriters, died tragically just as he was becoming famous. He had a sense of humor that shows up here even in a song about something very painful. 7:03 "there's something in my eyes-- you know it happens every time." Don't apologize-- I like you for that.

The night before he died he sent a letter to his wife that he was quitting singing so he could stay at home.
Drive by the crash site every day. His last concert was in my hometown. Life cut way to short.
I got one of those letters while I was in the Military.. Not a good feeling when you're so far away from home
Thank you for your service sir.
@robbielux8353 It was an Honor and if I was able, I would do it again
Thanks Angela, you’re very attuned to the emotions of a great ‘broken-hearted’ song. Angela is a good soul, that I do know.
He was an awesome song writer. R.I.P. Mr Croce!
Top notch song writing - Jim had a way of telling relatable stores with excellent musical accompaniment
Angela, I’ve listened to this song many times (the Diana Krall version). Thanks for playing this original version.
Gorgeous song! He was such a brilliant singer songwriter😊
one of my favorite artist ever left us so young but he left an indelling impression on us!
Hey Angela great reaction to a great song. Happy holidays to you! 😎👍❤
Such a Powerful Song. Jim was an amazing singer song writer. RIP
Your expression shows how quickly Jim Croce can pull a person in with a story
Got my letter while in Nam. She left me for a friend.
Thank you for your service sir.
Excellent breakdown on the story of this song… Thanks for posting!
I was ten when this song came out. The singer songwriter phenomenon came after the tumult of the 60s and many of those teens from the sixties where turning 30 and turning into adults. with all those problems. What a time it was to grow up hearing this music.
This song always makes me sad.... Not only his girl betrayed him, but with his best friend :(
He was so talented. Gone way too soon. I was 13 when he died, it was devastating.
I was also 13 when he died. I still remember crying in bed when I heard about it. I never tire of listening to his music.
Jim Croce’s absolute best ! Still love the song . Jim had such great story telling lyrics.
What a beautiful voice in the wilderness. Thanks Angela!
Great song and reaction
Thanks for that reaction
Jim's wife opened a tavern down by the water front in San Diego Calif. and had many of his instruments on display. He is the lead guitarist in this song.
Beautiful song
He said a lot of Suicides by Combat in the Military with these Dear John Letters and calls.
Angela, yes, that *_IS_* so sad, but Jim really did an AWSOME job of relaying that feeling, so that we ALL could hear and understand.
Good ol' memories. Had the same thing happen to me Aug. 1980.
Croce was just reaching his peak when he died in a plane crash. Check out the album photo of his little daughter and her expression. It will break your heart even more.
AJ is a boy.
your lovely empathy shines in your eyes Angela.
❤️jim croce and ❤️your rection videos! My fav reaction video of yours is to Hazy Shade of Winter. Love that song and love how much you loved it. Keep posting and take care njoy ur Christmas!
He's calling from a phone booth. Operators would assist callers with a variety of tasks.

This song always makes me wonder about all the Operators over the years who had to play Therapist on calls like these...
His song "I got a name" is my favorite by him
Hey Angela, I hope I remember tomorrow night to watch frosty the snowman with you, I watch my Quincy M.D. 😂at 7:00 pm

Classic,that,s the way it goes
Don’t worry. He hooked up with the operator! Thx Angela!
"Jim Croce, I dunno man, he was just tuned into something that the rest of us never get to see." --Jerry Reed
Thank you for your reaction to the "Dear John" phenomenon. It happened quite often and many of us were not immune to the heartbreak. Phone calls overseas were difficult and the mail could take weeks. The experience steals your soul although some handled it better than others.
Well thank you for your service sir
Saw him live in 1972 in Morgantown WVA while at grade school, did not only lose them but killed in a plane crash in 1973
There's many songs that would be on your playlist from Jim Croce. You mentioned break-up songs. Well, he wrote my favorite break-up song called, "One Less Set of Footsteps".

Most of jims hits were released after his plane cra😢shed
You are a beautiful person getting so emotional
Now why she hadn't done all of Jim Croce yet is beyond me. How long has she been doing this now? 3 yrs 😢
Jim Croce left us far too soon. He was just about to really hit it big. His Greatest Hits album is one of my favorites!

Got my Dear John letter 3 days before I got out.
I was 13 when Jim Croce hit #1 with Bad Bad Leroy Brown. I bought the 45 single after seeing him on the Midnight Special. Shortly afterwards is when he was killed in that plane crash. How unfair life can be.
What was my first impression when I first heard this song? Can't remember, in 1972 I was 14 years old when I first heard it.
A really good story/song is "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" by Vicki Carr.
definitely put this song on my phone - kind of ironic - LOL.
He was even better live.
Jim wrote some of the best breakup song. Try One less pair of footsteps and Lover's Cross for some more,
You might check out his "Lover's Cross ".
Try ‘Recently’ from him. Jim’s lyrics, (and singing), set off with Maury Muehleisen’ lead guitar playing makes for a gorgeous, memorable song.
Great Composer. And Story teller. So glad he decided against talking to these despicable people!
Great song from a fantastic singer songwriter who if he had lived would have charted for decades! Great job by you, how about John Denver and Don McClean!
