Thank you! I am recovering from a broken elbow, almost back to normal. I have not ridden my OTTB in 8 weeks! I have been fortunate to be able to attend a clinic and work in the round pen with my horse. Always learning, he and me!
I really like the position of where you hook your lead line. I am struggling with my warmblood wanting to bite the rope, and my hand that is in the normal placement so easy for him to nip at. Where can I buy that halter?
With my horse I always try to do a little bit of both in hand work and ground work not just because she’s distracted but also just to see how she’s acting that day she’s still pretty green and it’s nice to know what kind of horse you are working with, and just like she said, it gets her focused on me and what I’m doing. But even with a horse that isn’t green it’s a good thing to do.
Before I get on I always ask the horse to disengage hindquarters, move around me in a circle, and back up. On days I don't ride due to weather, if its super windy for example, I usually do some spooky training with bags or flags, rope his feet or similar. The other time I use groundwork is if the horse is upset or spooked by something while we are riding, I'll get off and lunge him around me both ways and back him up etc until he's paying attention to me. Tbh if a horse wont listen to me on the ground or is pushy, I don't get on
Henry seems like a very sweet boy. I use in hand work before we do anything else, because it gets his attention focused on me and being part of a team instead of oh the girls, or wait the wind is blowing or???
Can't wait for the workshop with Pat to open up again! Looks like a lot of useful information!
