It's my dude Gary !!! Hell yeah great seeing you here, great seeing the fellowship!! This is how culture changes. Coming together over shared interests even though the channels are different themes we share the same values. Values which woke Hollywood and the people it represents seek to destroy. This is how we win, uniting common sense people who don't need Hollywood, creating alternate economies, and being able to go around these fascist Hollywood elites who seek our destruction. It's great seeing like minded creators coming together to have a discussion about the horrors of Hollywood and the fascist identity politics it's pushing to destroy and divide our country.
I'll add my two cents to Nick Freitas' question on why pop/nerd culture is important. Whether the character is Spiderman, or the Lone Ranger, they are America's modern literary mythical heroes. Just like Hercules, Jason, Robin Hood, and King Arthur have been for hundreds of years. Their stories make you think about morality, responsibility, consequence of action, and sustain cultural value. They are modern fables that assist the parent in teaching their children. A child can learn from those stories with out mom and dad having to loom over them. It lets a non judgmental friend help the young interpret life. To some it can be the only positive example of being a man, or woman, they have in their lives.
Spot on. I actually wrote a paper in a composition class I had to take in college on how superheroes are modern folklore/mythology. They're just stories that embody our better angels and terrible devils.
And mythology isn't just larger than life stories for the sake of it. They served a purpose in society. Our modern mythologies are being taken down without anything to replace them and the hole that's been left behind is incredibly palpable- especially with young ones.
It's a concerted effort to remove the idea that there is "right" and "wrong". Now every character has a valid reason for their actions because you don't know what they've been through. The movie "The Condemned" with Stone Cold Steve Austin has a great scene regarding this. Vinnie Jones is the villain and Austin catches him at gunpoint and Jones goes on this long explanation of how he was abused and how horribly he was treated during his life which made him into a monster. Austin listens patiently, then says "Sounds like you had a tough life. Good thing it's over." and shoots him.
Read the fucking actual story of Hercules. Also I find it funny that you all here love Robin Hood when his character is redistributing wealth to the poor all the whole you will be the clowns will whine about universal health care as being a form of equality of results. What you want is cookie cut easy to digest bland stories. Well I want stories that have real substance and its something kids should interested in and learn about.
Nick, the late great Rush Limbaugh aired a warning decades ago when we were still debating legalized gay marriage. He aired a speech by some woman who was pushing for gay marriage, and she said it was her goal to destroy traditional marriage and the family unit. You said Disney was a family oriented company, back in the day. And it was.. I'd say they've been pretty successful on destroying anything wholesome and traditional family oriented.
Rush really was ahead of the curve on this. He talked about the importance of pop culture and the culture war. Thankfully we have guys like Nick and Gary to carry on the discussion against the woke destroyers. Great conversation, guys.
I was one of those cancelled knitters at that knitting social networking site in about 2017. It was bizarre, and everyone I tried to explain it to thought I was insane. But the more I looked into it, the scarier and crazier than I'd imagined.
Both are swamps that NEED to be drained and they've been working hand-in-hand from each side of the country to control culture and policy and use them in tandem to influence and direct one another.
Bro I was thinking the same and how weird it made me feel. Been like this for a few years now been fed up with most of the entertainment industry. Glad to see I'm not alone.
I've caught myself a couple of times watching my favorite channels on RUclips and thinking, "This should be a TV show," before realizing, it kind of already is. True, they don't have the budget or the slick camerawork of a "reality" TV show, but they have something "reality" TV doesn't have: heart and passion. The people running the channels I love are doing it because they love what they do and want to share that with people. And the magic of them having their own channel is they can do that without some idiot Hollywood middleman producer telling them they have to do it in a certain way.
I'm 60 years old, and though I don't always like it, RUclips is indeed my leading source of entertainment. Television and films have gone straight to hell. The problem with wokeness is not just critical theory Cultural Revolutionary poison. It's that storytelling itself is a conservative endeavor. Small c. Even if you're going to tell a very liberal story, small l, you must tell it in a conservative fashion or it will break the fourth wall with all kinds of utopian stink of bullshit characters and plot points. It will lack all verisimilitude. That's what these fools don't understand. They were actually doing a pretty good job of winning the culture war just by being reasonably subtle about their messaging. Maybe this wokeness is for the good after all, because Liberalism, capital L just can't help itself. It just can't stop itself from going too far, it just can't temper itself with a little small c conservatism. It always brings about a reactionary impulse. In this case that makes me a reactionary back to about 1995, say plus gay civil unions. Anyone sensible agrees with me, give or take.
Thank you Nick. Been a big fan of Gary for close to 5 years. Hearing you both makes me feel that there is hope for America. Keep fighting the good fight (from an ex-Aussie living in NZ).
@@ClinicalDecisionYikesYT So how many books have you had published or how many movies have you written. Critical Drinker (Will Jordan) has had several books published and has a movie coming out. Safe to say that your opinion of CD is pretty worthless.
The total transformation of Disney as a brand for me is akin to finding out that really inspiring teacher you had as a kid, who put you on this amazing life path, got you thinking about things differently, just made you a better person all around, actually had a child sex dungeon in his basement the whole time
I cancelled Amazon and Netflix(never had Disney) when they deleted scenes in Tropic Thunder that made the theatrical cut. Always get the hard discs, cause this tinkering won’t end.
Thank you Nick for interviewing Gary. He is really a good guy and is honest. The fellowship has helped me with my struggles with depression and truly saved my life after I found his channel.
Mark Hamill blocked me on Twitter because I said "Mark Hamill isn't Luke Skywalker...he's just some douchenozzle that plays Luke Skywalker." Good times...
I want the " Wonderful World of Disney" back. Intelligent, entertaining, and family oriented. It's much better entertainment than the crap that they produce in every aspect of the company.
Literally everyone is a nerd. Friend of mine has 28 hats, he's a nerd for hats. Another friend has 8 bookshelves full of action figures. We are all nerds, just for different things. This isn't a war of "nerds" vs others. It's people vs destroying the things we love. There will always be those of us that push back. This is my childhood you are ruining, not some random IP. Edit: No offense meant at all! Just found your channel. Love the commentary. The back and forth. Earnest and honest. Subbed! Look forward to binging your content.
If politicians want to effect change in places like the entertainment industry, they need to start having the Department of Labor looking into illegal hiring practices. ESG and DEI policies are actively being used to influence the hiring (and firing) of applicants based on race, sex, ethnicity, orientation, age, you name it. I've seen major video game studios and movie companies, where team leads and project managers openly brag on Twitter about only hiring women or African Americans for their project. In what world do exclusionary hiring practices like this pass muster with Federal Laws on anti-discriminatory workplace protections?
Finally, we are ascribing this phenomena not to mere incompetence, but to the destructive and intentional malice that it is. It's the slow murder of all the values and institutions that hold a society together. This has been the plan since the 1960s.
Watch some of Bill Whittle and the Right Angle episodes here on YT. Whittle is a hollywood script writer and has some epidodes covering the problems in Hollywierd.. Aldo Andrew Klavan was a writer in HW for years and has some great insights into the current lack of sales for the movies
They are destroying themselves. Ticket sales speak loudest. Even when people thought superhero movies were good. They basically churned out the same movie over and over again. DEI and alienating your core audience done the rest.

Heck it has become a running gag among the Fellowship where we act surprised anytime he brings up his past. I mean by now I would bet you could at least get an hour or two of just Gary talking about his past in video just from edits, and this is a low ball figure.
Wait, Gary owned the comic shop on Irving? Always wondered why they closed it down. Yeah, proximity to GGP/Haight is bad for addicts, so glad he survived!

Oh it's straight across the board:movies,TV shows, comic books and ALL games, not just video games - look what Hasbro's done to D & D and MTG;it's a deliberate assault on our society by stealing and changing our pop culture.
You can't even watch original trilogy Star Wars anymore. Because you know how Luke and Han and Leia and Chewbacca are going to end up. And that is intentional.
I only watch the original trilogy. And though I let my kids choose if they want to watch the newer ones, I don't recommend they do. So far, they have all decided to forgo the newest stuff. Maybe it's because I refused to watch the new stuff that I am still able to watch the original. 🤷♀️
@@SWags-ly7dp I can do pretty much everything up to the end of the Clone Wars. The Disney season was actually pretty good. On par with Rogue One, which in my opinion is a must watch prior to an original trilogy binge. Pretty much everything else Disney has done on this front has been mediocre at best. Dumpster fire at worst.
Yeah actually they ended it really well. The scene with Vader recovering Ahsoka's lightsabers was really something. Perfect ending to a fantastic show. And Solo wasn't half as bad as everyone thought. The REAL killers for me were TLJ, which IMO is possibly the worst SW movie EVER made (and that's including the Holiday Special) and Obi Wan, which had a decent premise... But the makeup and special effects were just so cheap and garbage that it was utterlly unwatchable. Now full disclosure, I didn't watch RoS (b/c of how bad TLJ was) so I can't really give an opinion on it. I HAVE seen the whole 'Somehow Palpentine came back' meme, which makes 'I hate sand' look like bloody Shakespear by comparison, but I never have and never will watch it.

From Fahrenheit 451: “Do you know why books such as this are so important? Because they have quality. And what does the word quality mean? To me it means texture. This book has pores. It has features. This book can go under the microscope. You’d find life under the glass, streaming past in infinite profusion. The more pores, the more truthfully recorded details of life per square inch you can get on a sheet of paper, the more ‘literary’ you are. That’s my definition anyway. Telling detail. Fresh detail. The good writers touch life often. The mediocre ones run a quick hand over her. The bad ones rape her and leave her for the flies. So now you see why books are hated and feared? They show the pores in the face of life.”
The frightening part of that book is that they use robot dogs to hunt down enemies of the state and kill them by the dog injecting poison into them. We are practically there.

One fandom I'm in is classic Japanese film. I can argue the best film I've ever seen is Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, Magnificent Seven is an American remake but Seven Samurai is much better imo. Yojimbō & Sanjurō, Fistful Of Dollars is a remake of. Zatoichi The Blind Swordsman 25 films, Lone Wolf & Cub 6 films, Samurai Trilogy, Sword Of Doom, Lady Snow Blood, Hara Kiri, 3 Outlaw Samurai and so much more. These films start 1949-1985, true masculine and stoic nature.
44:20 Disney has been doing that since before I was born. The movie Bambi is pretty much purposely made to vilify hunters. The beginning of the movie shows these lumbering, shadowy monsters, stomping through the forest, shooting anything that moves. the cuter, the deader.
Here me out. Luke was meditating and the last three movies was the dark side influencing Luke. He wakes up and it’s 5 years after ROTJ and he has to save the galaxy from the sequels

I knew we were toast here in Canada when the CBC fired our beloved icon Don Cherry. What should we be doing to stop this madness? Womanhood is now a cartoon costume and men have taken over our spaces that we fought so hard for.
Especially now that Disney basically retconned the OT/PT by bringing back a Palpatine clone, in order for Mary Sue to defeat, thus cancelling Anakin’s entire character arc??? How Lucas allowed that to happen, is dumbfounding?

Only like, 3 other people and I in the universe didn't consider Luke drinking raw milk as a fucking travesty of the highest order like everyone else does. I don't think Luke was absolutely ruined, and I didn't love everything they did, but the milk thing is like, almost factually just baby-level shit that people need to let go of real bad.
Totally agreed and I relate to this personally since my parents were quite absent and need culture help me build my morals

I don't even consider the Disney stories to be Star wars movies.
Disney is Satanic.

I was one of those cancelled knitters at that knitting social networking site in about 2017. It was bizarre, and everyone I tried to explain it to thought I was insane. But the more I looked into it, the scarier and crazier than I'd imagined.
I remember following that, and supportive comments would just "magically disappear" or else be attacked into oblivion. Evil world we are living in.
They don’t call it Hollyweird for nothing! That is one soulless place, like D.C.
Both are swamps that NEED to be drained and they've been working hand-in-hand from each side of the country to control culture and policy and use them in tandem to influence and direct one another.
More like Hollywoke :(
Gary struggling to utter "Screen Actors Guild" was hilarious. He has another name for that particular group.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone had it right.
I'm not.
Film Actors Guild.
Nick is right about youtube. I recently realized all my entertainment has come from youtube and I thought I was being weird. Its the norm now.
Same
Bro I was thinking the same and how weird it made me feel.
Kinda the same.
Turns out McCarthy was dead on the money all those years ago.
Thank you Nick. Been a big fan of Gary for close to 5 years. Hearing you both makes me feel that there is hope for America. Keep fighting the good fight (from an ex-Aussie living in NZ).

Walt Disney loved Americana! The Disney realm has turned so far away from his vision.
Exactly. He actually fought these same Marxists(who took hold of his company), for half his life. They threw everything at Walt and Roy, to no avail.
Im glad Gary said that he would personally rather fix Dr Who. It was such a travesty. He did choose Star Wars for others, but he wanted to say Dr Who.

The total transformation of Disney as a brand for me is akin to finding out that really inspiring teacher you had as a kid, who put you on this amazing life path, got you thinking about things differently, just made you a better person all around, actually had a child sex dungeon in his basement the whole time
Oh no if only disney went back to its racist, jew hating sexist ways of its founder.
I canceled Disney and Amazon years ago. Everything on Amazon is way too dark for me. And Disney was just getting weirder and weirder.
I cancelled Amazon and Netflix(never had Disney) when they deleted scenes in Tropic Thunder that made the theatrical cut. Always get the hard discs, cause this tinkering won’t end.

I’m and something so many of us can’t relate to 🙏
I want the " Wonderful World of Disney" back. Intelligent, entertaining, and family oriented. It's much better entertainment than the crap that they produce in every aspect of the company.
Exactly why current and future generations will never experience it. Those of us lucky enough to have been raised on it mourn its loss.
It's not enough to boycott these people, and it looks like it's the perfect time to start making things to compete with them
Angel Studios is one group that was created for just this reason.
Gary embodies america, fell down got up,fell down. Now he is main line america speaking truth, talking with people. Thanks Gary.
You're describing geeks, not nerds.
The definition of words matter. If they can be changed at will, for convenience, communication becomes impossible.
I think the best thing to do is just assume all these new films are woke and not watch them, problem solved.
That’s what I do. Unfortunately, that’s how I missed Dune in theaters. Assumed it was more crap and wished I had gone.
This was a good conversation. I remember watching "The wonderful World of Disney " on Sunday nights as a kid and it was family entertainment.
Remember when movies and shows were good? I miss those days
Hail Gary. Great to see you making the rounds. The fellowship is growing every day.
"The Electric Company" has been rebooted as "The Solar Panel Company".
They are destroying themselves. Ticket sales speak loudest. Even when people thought superhero movies were good. They basically churned out the same movie over and over again. DEI and alienating your core audience done the rest.
Gary hit a million and now he’s everywhere lol. Glad to see him get the recognition he deserves
The masses didn't want to hear him sing a Bon Jovi song. 😂
As an aspiring fantasy author, im doing the thing, "nobody will".... Have a real woman, future mother, and hostess as a main character.
Man, Gary's been really getting around on other podcasts. I'm pleased.
Continue the good fight against insanity.
Gary, and those commentators like him, are a great doorway from the mainstream crap and to the indie stuff. All of us indie creators agree that Hollywood sucks so we made our own stuff for you.
One of the best things about Gary is that his past makes him almost unstoppable. What is the other side going t9 say? “HES AN EX CON! DID PRISON TIME! WAS AN ADDICT WHO OIED, CHEATED AND STOLE!”
We all just shrug and go “yeah, and? It’s not like he hasn’t told us. He cleaned up.”
His wife also owned a very successful hair salon before the lockdowns killed it. Guess she wasn’t lucky enough to have Pelosi as a client!!!
I’m knitting a hat as I watch this - YES - the Ravelry crowd are insane. Now the co-founder of Ravelry (husband of the other co-founder) is a “woman”.

Gary, I’m so grateful you do what you do. You say the things I don’t have a voice for. You’re funny AH, you’re kind, and you’re prescient.
I get catharsis through you. Keep on keeping on.
One last comment is not just Hollywood, it's also the gaming industry in terms of the woke poking in.This could be bigger animal than what they are talking about.
They did mention the gaming industry near the start with the Sweet Baby Inc thing 👍

From Fahrenheit 451:
“Do you know why books such as this are so important?

One more thing to add to stick it to Disney is to buy hardcopies of your favorite stuff on the secondhand market.
