I've been a pastor for 30 years. Every church that I have served has had a food pantry of one sort or another inside the church building for food insecure people. One day, I was sitting in my study at a church that was a bit off the beaten path from the downtown area of the small city. My office window looked out over our parking lot that had a quite steep grade. I was alone at the church. So I watched a woman, all by herself walk up the empty parking lot. Since I had all of the doors locked, I greeted her at the door. She asked me for some help. Ok. It happens all the time. I am used to it, and am kind and generous as I can be. She didn't have a car. Maybe she was out of gas? No problem. One of the local filling stations will give her $20 of gas if I call and tell them (the church will pay the bill at the end of the week). Maybe she is hungry. No problem. I have so much food, it is like we have a small grocery at the church with fresh milk, eggs, butter, frozen meat, standard shelf stable stuff. Of course, she wanted cash, and only cash. Please note: no church keeps any cash inside the building. I didn't have a single bill in my wallet. I explained her options. Nope. She turned around and cursed me all the way down the hill of the parking lot. Meh. I can't give what I don't have. SMH.
I live in the boonies. Only incorporated town in my county is over an hour from another town.. The population is well under 1000. No social services, etc. Years ago a guy reached out to my church needing help. Pastor got him a room at the motel and a meal. Next day the guy asked my pastor if he would pay for another night. Nope, pastor told him to hang out at the gas station and ask 18 wheeler drivers that show up for a ride. Guy was gone in a few hours.
@@DblTap317 Yep, if they take "stuff", food, a can of gas, a loaf of bread, etc., that's fine. I would help someone like that, if money is the only 'help' they want, I know it is going into their nose or vein.
the second story reminded me of a lady I worked with, she told me she saw a guy who had a sign asking for money or food , so she bought him several cheese burgers and fries and he got very mad at her, so she took the food away from him and drove off
The lady Dora from the first story isn't the worst person ever but damn is she ever obnoxious. OP and their dad had to have saintly patience cause I would of lost my cool with her after a few hours most since she was described as never seeming to shut up.
@@tarbhnathrac Last year I made similar request which has +500 upvotes, and this one 25 so far, with one for no, am I to assume a Karen is reading my comments??? 😳 😳😳 Naa. Couldn't be. Sorry, In jumping the gun here. You didn't once ask for a manager, ask for a discount, or say you would sue me. Though you could try for the third, but that clocks ticken pretty fast to catch. Be well.
That story of the homeless guy happened the same way to me a few days ago. I knew he was on the same corner, so when I went to BK, I got an extra cheeseburger and fries in a separate sack for him. I pulled over, told him what I got for him and all he did was ask if there was money in the sack. That’s the last time I’ll ever help a homeless person.
I once asked a guy if he wanted food. He was clearly homeless and sitting next to a fast food restaurant I was heading to. He said no, so I didn't buy him anything to eat.
When I was homeless I found out most of the homeless standing begging for money aren't really homeless, one man I knew had a full time job and a drinking problem and every Saturday he would clear 300 which was enough for a week of booze. If you really want to help the homeless give to shelters and soup kitchens, they rely on donations and the more donations the better the facility and more nourishing the meals. I volunteer at one and we celebrate every donation no matter how small.
I went shopping one day with my children. My children saved their own money. Going through a parking lot a guy asked for spare change. My oldest daughter gave him all the change in her pocket. He yelled at her, saying she was cheap. I turned around so fast ,. She had given him every cent she had. But that wasn't enough in his eyes. I told him to return the money. Awesome heck. Not doing the story justice. Anyway I had him running from me. 😅
For the homeless guy story, OP's om should have called the cops and said that there was a homeless guy that was aggressively harassing people in the McDonald's parking lot.
For the last one, I’ve said it before and I’ll continue to say it…..employers and bosses need to learn THEIR place in the workforce. They DONT make the business, the EMPLOYEES and CLIENTS make the business. While they have their place in the workforce, they DONT do the day to day operations and most of the time have absolutely no clue what is actually happening. The employees need to be paid more and the “bosses” need to be paid less.
I wish that was true but I remember homeless conmen in the 60's and 70's as well as stories from people that lived through the 1929 depression. The saying that there is nothing new under the sun is quite true.
If I was OP, when Dora stated telling us we MUST take her home cause she doesn't have enough money for a cab, I'd have turned to her and said "Here, here's [cost of bus fare], the City Bus Stop is over there, you can get home that way. GOOD BYE!!!" handed her the $2-3.00 the City Bus cost and walked away... That's assuming I didn't give in to my Primal Urge to toss the complaining Choosing Beggar overboard when the ships out in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico or the Caribbean Sea (I'm assuming since OP mentioned a stop in Mexico, they boarded Ship in Miami)... 😄😁😆😅😂🤣
First story, I know this is hard to believe but police officers have better things to do than drive people about. There are things called Taxis and that's their job...🤦♂️
Yup The I WANT $ response happens a lot. There's an entrance to a major shopping area in my city. Homeless or jerks that want to appear homeless beg on the road in front of a McD's. They'll even approach people eating in their cars in the parking lot. After many many complaints of them refusing food and DEMANDING $ the city put up a sign. The sign states if you want to donate $ to call this number and donate. Anyone found begging at that location will be removed fined or arrested. A shame really for those that are actually in need. These A**holes and their big begging business ruined it for them.
Last story, op did nothing wrong there. even mentioning their consern to the new boss about beeing worryed about conflict of interest and it beeing other peoples that agreed with ops opinion that was also part of the team checking things up. ops old boss have no case if trying to sue for some dumb reason
For the record, if you have an injury like a sprained knee that is affecting your mobility, you are ARE disabled (albeit temporarily) and eligible to use those kinds of seats. DIsabilities are not limited to being permanently wheelchair bound!
Last story... You didn't do anything wrong! New boss was testing you to see if you were honest and old boss was testing to see if you were gullible. 🙄😃😂😂💋💖

Redwheel, please please, do a special IDWHL episode. We all miss them a lot :)
Agree

I agree too
No we don't.

Great stories! This to shall pass, it might pass like a kidney stone, but it will pass. Hope you get it fixed soon, miss ya!
Last story, client was already planning to drop the company and offered OP the job because they knew he was competent.
Dora is not the worst person on the planet. She has many, many, many, many clones.
My husband offered food to a person with a sign that said anything would be helpful. He said, I dont want food, so hubby drove away.

We did not have conmen homeless in the late 80s. They did not show up til mid 90s.

the last story shows that the company was dependent on one guy to keep it afloat
"I told this story long ago, at least 8 years" 😐
Good afternoon RedWheel hope you’re doing well. Have an awesome day
Narcissism is an epidemic
It's just business
Thanks Redwheel. Have a good Tuesday
I'd say its time to give her her pink slip
Sorry, but I would never offer a homeless person money food's my first choice if they say no they're not getting anything
