litrally the only reason i learnt bass is to make it easier to find bands. But its actually tons of fun. Unless you're in a band that wants you to play basic bass lines
Bass is incredibly underrated and as much as we like to make jokes about it every professional musician knows that a decent bass player can make or break a song like nothing else
A friend and I used to have the same dream about making money playing music. I think the biggest net gain we had from a single gig was like 50 bucks total lmao. If I remember right we split that enormous payday into pizza money and buying me a used 10 dollar Bad Monkey for my pedal board.
That bad monkey was an definitely a good choice 👌 haha you know the crazy thing is the 50$ gigs are the ones you worry over the most, have to scratch and claw to get paid and the band plays like they’re possessed. But the 2000$ gig? Runs like butter, money shows up in your account the next day and you probably played sloppier than you ever did in the bar with four people in it
It’s honestly such a workhorse of a guitar, and the tonal options are nuts! Haha agreed bass is where it’s at, next time I’ll embarrass myself by playing it
@@mandyjean that is actually an amazing idea lol got to be a way to get some of his lines from that Mac Miller live performance into a video, maybe play What’s The Use 👌
@@atutahi I have my first non-church service gig this month! It's likely unpaid, with another student (drummer) plus our instructor/facilitator (guitar and vocals) and another guitarist. We have a 35 minute set of Metallica (plus one Black Sabbath) songs at a local bar. Very excited/nervous. We've been practicing and learning songs since November.
@@venturion1970 nice one buddy! One tip I give everyone with a bit of nerves before a gig is to just line up your set at home and practice it to only a metronome until you can play the entire set top to bottom alone with no one else’s parts to give you cues. I find it gives you a massive confidence boost and makes playing along with everyone else a breeze
I thought you recruited bass players by telling your least talented guitarist friend to buy a bass so he can stay in the band? 🤔 But if you want to make REAL money, learn the drums 😂
Yeah bro at one point it was anyway lol I’m too scared to look back and compare what I play from memory but it certainly started out that way awhile back
Yes it is for the most part I learned it awhile back for a gig and have basically been playing it from memory since then, definitely not note for note anymore but for the most part I imagine it’s still the same lol unless I’ve seriously veered off somewhere
Practice lol Nah, for real tho. Practice some basic techniques and play some songs you like. Finding tabs online should be enough. Try to use a metronome, or play along with a track if you need to. For this specific type of playing, right hand finger style technique and jazz/neo-soul chord voicings maybe? There's probably more things to point out, but I'm not much of a teacher. Finding free lessons on youtube's a good start.
I always recommend to find a teacher who lights up when you say "I want to learn soul/neo soul music." If they have passion for the style of music you want to learn, then you can both connect on that point. Lessons are the best way to go.

“Alright you’re gonna a G on the low string and then the G an octave up and rotate between the two”
“Cool and then what?”
“… no and then”
I love your version of just the two of us
Cheers i learned the Seiji Igusa arrangement awhile back and although I haven’t gone back to that in a bit I’m sure it’s still basically the same lol
Finally, someone recognizing Bass as the REAL workhorse!
Jaco did it first, we’re all just tryna catch up lol
This one made me LOL. 😆😆
Haha yuss goal accomplished
Ahahahaha that hurts inside.
Too true, only thing that makes more money are the drums, but that costs too much.
Hahaha the investment cost is too high!

Such a beautiful arrangement of just the two of us ❤❤❤
Thanks! I learned Seiji Igusa’s version awhile back and have been basically playing it ever since lol
As a bassist, I hope this happens for me someday! 😂
You got this brother, everybody needs a decent bass player!

the twist at the end
well as primarily a drummer, secondarily a bassist and thirdly a guitarist
;)
also my new neighbours will really love me
Hahaha they’re gonna be stoked!
Seiji Igusa version right? Sounds amazing

Ahhh that's what I've been doing wrong!
It’s an easy mistake to make lol
Love u
Cheers bro!
Are you an actual guitar teacher? lmao, love the vids man :)
Haha unfortunately yes, cheers mate glad you’re enjoying them!
oh also drums, everyone will want you lmao
Haha very true
Can definitely say there is a shortage of good bassists where I am
In the world to be honest
Oh hey! Is that Seji's version of just the two of us? I just started learning that myself :) A beautiful arrangement

Any pointers for a beginner guitarist on how to play like this?

practice that specific style a lot and start at a more basic level

Auckland New Zealand

Everyone should imo

Where's the tab to what he played?

Hahaha good job!
