Well, l enjoyed it!!! Good comeback from MM, especially good performance from Mann. Congrats to Brighton..thought that Taylor showed quiet confidence and good knowledge. Thanks so much 😊

I agree. This is all a bit of fun. Most of these contestants are coming straight from work to take part in something they’ve probably done no preparation for.
Hang on, Jim Carrey starred in "How the Grinch stole Christmas". They said "The grinch who stole christmas" which is close enough. The Host said it was just "The Grinch", but that was the 2018 animated film with Benedict Cumberbatch. BBC should apologise.

@@ryder883 Thank you. I have a disability which is not even close to the visibility that Mr Pearson deals with, but I still do not want my intelligence judged by it.
I noticed the points at 19:00 and was really surprised by them, because from the buzzes and time-on-screen it felt like Brighton hadn't done much at all. Turns out they'd just been quietly accumulating points.
Did...did I just win?! Playing along I got 145. That...that's MORE than 135???? Does not compute. This doesn't happen to me even on the Christmas episodes!!
Considering that a University Challenge rule is that one need only mention the surname of a person (with rare exceptions), one might say Mr Rajah should've accepted the answer Ryan Pidcock (13:07), since the surname was right. When asking about the traditional Scandinavian cake, Mr Rajah doesn't ask for the name as it is known in its country of origin but for the name 'by which it is commonly known' (21:40), which makes the contestants think he means the English name.
Correct surname can be accepted in isolation - they're giving the players the benefit of the doubt. But if they say a different first name, then they're referring to a different person. One would not accept "Alan Biden" for the name of the current US president, for example.
This is one of those matches were I was screaming the whole time =P, Lima, Turrón!, Thoracic!, Liszt!, (But only because I speak spanish and I'm a veterinarian so, I "cheated" there since it's not because I'm better it's just that some questions were designed for any of us xD. If you were in such anguish that you couldn't watch anymore, wouldn't your immediate response while undergoing this turmoil to have been to dash off, I can't watch anymore! (i.e. the present rather than the past)? And the exclamation mark is entirely unnecessary.
"I'm completely useless...": says it all. They had the easiest questions of the week and demonstrated the argument for reducing the number of universities.
So henceforth the participants are chosen based on their identity and not based on talent ? What a woke year for university challenge 😅 no one is gonna talk about it ?
Poor Mann. Absolutely carried the team and outdone more by a pretty poor captain and the rest of her own team than she was by the opposition.
You're reading the comments before watching the video? Seems you're asking for spoilers.

Not a good strategy to interrupt with a buzz and then say nothing ! Weird.
Manchester Met is lucky they had the vicar.
Mann was simply amazing, so sad the rest of her team knew so little

Too harsh on the Sickle Cell Syndrome
Agree!
Pearson ❤ you're my hero
Rachell Mann was the Mann of the hour, absolute brilliant performance. Great facial expressions and demeanor
Stephenson was unbearable
She buzzed in twice without having any idea what the answer was so she could have a little camera time.

Oh my, that was painful. The best team won - many congrats to them! Looking forward to the rest of the Christmas series. Thank you so much, CP.

First Saville, then Huw Edwards and now this. It's a bloody outrage.
The better team won. Mann is fantastic though.
Even I got Coventry coat of arms for the horse and woman’s head …and I am not a pom
Taylor is smart, gentle and handsome.
Mann was brilliant. Stephenson was useless. She was just guessing her answers.

The rest of the team apart from Mann was pretty useless too.
@@schmidt776 I disagree. I think Chambers tried his best.
Respect to Pearson, that's a ferocious disability to live with, yet he showed he's as sharp as any of them!
Why should he not be as sharp as someone without a disability? That was a patronizing remark.

Sometimes showing respect is by not mentioning a disability someone has.
I know you're trying to be respectful but that's a little patronising, and tempering it with the word ferocious sends it completely the other way

I'm unfortunate enough to live relatively close to one of MMU's campuses and I just gotta say, this performance makes perfect sense.
Cosmic P - we love you!
The presenters constant “bad luck” to completely wrong answers really grind.

Why is it "You may not confer"? Shouldn't it be " You must not confer"?
'you may not' in this context means 'you do not have permission'. e.g. if someone asks "may I...?" they're asking for permission
