      Both Gibson and Epiphone use both through the years. For Historical accuracy it should be pearloid but mother of pearl is a nice upgrade.

    I see soooo many comments from people complaining about the prices on the new collection of epiphones. But remember… it has REAL Gibson USA made Custombuckers, the same pickups that are in almost all Gibson Custom models.
    Those pickups are worth $260 times THREE in total. PLUS the very fine and detailed hardcase that is worth 200-300 dollars itself. So if you do the math the guitar is like a normal epiphone price worth around 800-900 but with all the extra specs and the Gibson open book headstock (which is their marketing as well) it all is 110% worth it in my eyes. And I honestly don’t get why people are crying over it.
    “I’m complaining because epiphones used to be affordable🥺” yeah well these new models won’t replace the original line up. It’s just additional models as well as they are speced out with Gibson stuff.
    There is no way you get gibson pickups and a nice epiphone high end hard case without paying AT LEAST an extra 400-600 bucks MORE.
    It’s simple, you can’t get good specs if you aren’t willing to pay for it.
    These models are also meant more for the experienced and professional players and collectors out there who cares about having the best specs but can’t afford a Gibson standard/custom.
    It’s like a beginner who’s only played for two months complain about a real Gibson Les Paul custom’s price tag and that he/her thinks they should be more “affordable”

    • @tommilitello198
      @tommilitello198 6 месяцев назад +1

      You can get a used gibson sg standard a helluva lot cheaper all day long

    • @TzebbLIsla
      @TzebbLIsla 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@tommilitello198 exactly. But not with CUSTOMBUCKERS and ebony fretboard.
      Again the pickups are what definitely makes this model special from all the other in the same lineup.
      Also. Don’t know about you. But here in Sweden a beaten up Gibson SG standard from a modern age would still be around $1200, and it won’t even have the hardcase. It’ll probably have the softcase.
      I and many others I know would prefer this model if you look at the specs and what comes with it 110%
      Paying $100-$200 more is again definitely worth it for this epiphone. And I own Gibsons. I have LP customs and LP standard’s as well as some sg’s. And I still think that for the price of this Epiphone it’s worth it.

    • @marchaas3768
      @marchaas3768 6 месяцев назад +3

      That case is just cheap Chinese made crap. Obviously you didn’t see one yet. These are good guitars but still way overpriced for what you get. Yes, the pick ups are very nice but people forget how overpriced Gibson is. Those pick ups are not worth those prices at all.

    • @TzebbLIsla
      @TzebbLIsla 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@marchaas3768 I have three of those epiphone cases and YES they are good quality.
      And what you stated is an opinion and not facts. What I stated was all facts except when I said that “I think it’s worth it”. If you think that it’s all overpriced and that Gibson is overrated then that’s on you and that’s your opinion.
      These guitars are obviously not for you so I don’t know why you’re taking your time and commenting about it.
      And I didn’t set the prices for the pickups. I’m just saying that that’s one of the bigger reasons for the higher prices on these more ‘professional’ models.
      They also have ebony fretboards as well as mother of pearl inlays and other things that we more professional guitarist appreciate and WOULD pay more for since it’s a fun detail as well as a very cool collectible and again, it has the real deal Gibson Custom specs.
      It’s also very funny since you obviously think Gibsons are overpriced and that the new epiphone models are too expensive, remember! These are for the people who actually like Gibsons, and who likes epiphone, and appreciate the sound of those expensive pickups that you now can get for a third of the price for a Gibson Custom guitar. You are obviously not in the group of people who adore and admire Gibson/epiphone which makes me understand that in your eyes, these might not be worth it. I’m just saying why they’re worth it to me and MANY others

    I’ll be picking up the ES-355 and J-200 as the next guitars I purchase. I don’t understand the people who are complaining about these. Save for the LP Standards in this line, you can’t find the Gibson equivalents anywhere near this price point used or otherwise. And they’re built right and the pickups are excellent. They really spec’d these to the nines. And fun fact, Epiphone didn’t stop making $500 guitars.

    The quality of mine that i purchased from zzounds was not great. Buzzing all over and making it through amp, nut was WAY high, needed fret leveling right out of the gate, string radius was not even close, intonation way off, tuners were loose, one of the volume knobs was falling off and i had to put a piece of tape on the pot shaft to keep it on. This is with regular 10-46 strings, so no crazy guage changes or anything. You could see where whoever beveled the fret ends hit the binding too. I expected much more for a $1500 guitar that supposedly is a custom shop. Very poor qc. After all the work, it does sound great, but Holy smokes what an ordeal. And it still isn't perfect. I am doing a little more work to it this weekend to dial it in. My cheaper gutars play and sound just as nice though. They must have sent you a primo one since you are on RUclips

I wanted to absolutely try before buying to sidestep the issues that you experienced. I had to settle for the floor demo which is all the shops in my area had left. Lucky for me, the guitar was cosmetically in perfect shape. Plugged it in, made sure the knobs and switch worked well, no weirdness with the set up (few adjustments needed to lower action a bit). The guitar was a winner. Or so I thought. Brought it home, cranked the amp and immediately I could tell there was a grounding issue. I did not want to crank the amp at the music store, and of course the hum was not noticeable there. Sucks, but I guess the QC issues make this more like a real Gibson in a way😐

While they claim that the pups are genuine USA Gibson Customerbuckers, I question that. There's no question in my mind that Gibson can recreate Custombuckers in China with the right equipment and training. They sound the part. I have a dozen Gibson SGs. I've owned a dozen Epiphones in the past 5 years. I call this a winner.

    I suppose the issue for me; the Epi will never look like his "real one" because of the polyurethane finish. Honestly, if Gibson had spent just a little more and offered them with Nitro finishes for an extra hunded or so bucks I'd be buying the firebird and probably get round to one of these but, poly, nah. You can pick up MUCH higher spec vintage guitars for less than the RRP on this if you know what you're looking at.

      Then don’t?

    Gold hardware is one spec I just can't do. The 1 piece mahogany neck always spooks me, especially when its the slim taper. Lotta breaks under the nut slot, where its very thin.The way Epiphone runs the binding under the nut, removes even more wood than Gibsons do in that critical area.
    I'm partial to the 5 piece mahogany neck construction Epiphone uses on normal production models. It has a very well executed scarf joint, that seriously strengthens that critical area under the nut slot.The wings of the headstock extend down all the way into the neck profile, wrapping around both sides. They literally NEVER break above the nut, only somewhere below where the headstock wings tie into the neck. If you snap a 50's carve Les Paul neck in the middle, you've really put the G's to her.
    One piece mahogany necks are just by design more susceptible to breaks. Then throw in crazy headstock shapes that are ALL on a different angle than Gibsons. Then the way Epiphone truss rods and covers are drilled and mounted deeper into the neck profile, combined with binding that overlaps under the nut. Its honestly a recipe for disaster. I've heard numerous horror stories already, of gleefull buyers opening the case to a snapped neck. The Korina V and Explorer, the DG-335, and any of the 1 piece mahogany slim taper carves, are the ones to be careful with.
    Personally, I stayed clear of them and am very pleased with my ASFB '59 Les Paul standard outfit for $799 built in July of '20. Then I also have a "The Berserker " custom art edition from the Adam Jones collection. It has EMG 81/85 ZW pickups and Gotoh keystone tuners now.
    The crown jewel is my '79 Les Paul Custom silverburst, Adam Jones customshop collaboration edition.
    With Custombuckers and the same Gotoh keystone tuners as "The Berserker" Its just on its own level. The AJ sigs have 3 piece maple necks with a fat volute right where I'm telling you for fact, the 1 piece mahogany necks fail at.

      Honestly yeah they are. Ebony, mother of pearl, hand wired electronics, custom shop pickups, built like a Gibson with solid construction and a hard-case for that much? Why spend more for less on a Gibson? The only sg that might be worth it over this is the 61 which Is a lot more expensive. And even then this is a custom which is my personal favourite guitar. The only thing these don’t have is lacquer and nibs but if the finish is thin then that is what really matters.

      @@TzebbLIsla honestly its only because epiphones name has been associated with cheap stuff for the last 30 years. They used to make epis in japan from the 70s-90s. Those wouldve been priced in this current range. Had they resurrected the Orville name then its likely people wouldn’t complain as much because they would have no idea which price range to associate it with. These are killer for the money. They aren’t an ‘epiphone’ in the current tradition they are an epiphone in the old one and that middle ground has been missing for a long time. They’re going to sell boat loads of these to people that want a gibson but not at the Gibson price because that’s basically what these are. It’s brilliant tbh. Even on the used market before prices went crazy you couldnt get a les paul for the price they are charging for a new one. Ifs regrettable they didnt use rosewood but that only encourages people to go for the ebony models and thats fine w me. Either way a new gibson sg standard is half the guitar this is for a bit more. I dont think these will last long before gibson realizes people are buying these instead of a standard Gibson and theyll nurf them to protect the standard range. That problem might not happen on the les paul standard but most definitely will on the sg. Grab these while they last honestly.

      It’s a cool story how I got the 90s version of the 63 sg custom. I was in 7th grade and I had been in love with the Gibson version for a couple of years already after seeing a video of Tony Iommi using one on the live version of Paranoid from the 70s. And I wanted one badly but at the time I was too young for that kind of a guitar and how much it costed as well. One day before I was going on a trip with the fam to Italy I went to the local guitar store, as soon as I walked in I saw the epiphone sg 63 custom hanging behind the counter. At the time I didn’t even know there was an epiphone version of it, which made it extra special that it was there. And I fell in love with it. They asked 800 bucks for it but since my dad knew the owner of the store he bought it for me for 700 bucks. And over the years I put real custombuckers in it, a gold Gibson vibrola and some other stuff on it as well.
      Today I’m more of a Les Paul guy and I own lots of Gibsons, my baby being a Gibson Les Paul Custom 1957 Reissue and the fact that I went over to LP’s is thanks to Randy Rhoads. But when I saw that they were releasing a new version of it this year I lost my mind over it🤯
