ElevatorsinRussia I think it was a measure for the kids not to play too much with the elevator. In earlier times, it was normal to place the switches high so that they would not use by small children.

Nice one... this elevator sounds like an electric tramway form the same age.... just missing a "ding-ding" sound when arriving at the desired floor :-)

awesome elevator! I like that window in the back wall of the shaft/cab. That's such a nice detail. I wonder if this lift has got wooden guide rails, since it's quite noisy, and I've read in that elevator book that some early elevators had wooden guide rails. It's amazing that it still has it's original fixtures as well.

It might have wooden guiderails yes. I should have used my flashlight to look in the shaft. I know other very old elevators with wooden guiderails, for example a Titan from 1908 near Nyhavn in Copenhagen

One word can qualify this : WONDERFUL !! I can't even believe how you can find such beauties, because here in France, no beauty, but only crappy mods :'(

You will find a lot of beauties, some of them have crappy mods if you plan to go to Scandinavia.
In Russia, there are some beauties. Sadly, old Sovietic elevators in the apartment buildings, office buildings or hospitals are going to be replaced sometimes :(
