    An Excellent in-depth information in very simple layman terms. Thank you Dr. Natali for putting this information together for the public. My child has been going through this procedure over a year. Initially we had a great resistance from the child due to discomfort but the very patient mother worked it out and now we are sailing smooth. While 0.01% atropine is heavy on our pocket, at lest we had a way of managing myopia. Lately found that there is a new compound Atropine+ which we may discuss with our Dr. If you can spare few words about this new Atropine+, that will be great.
    Again: Many thanks for this video.

    Ophthalmologist, Rupa Wong, (Hawaii), has extended the concept of Atropine, to prevent Accommodation in her three children.
    She plans to continue this use of Atropine, for the next 10 years, and totally prevent " myopia entry ", for life.
    I totally agree with her.
    Using Atropine, while her kids still have 20/20.
    Good idea?
    Why not help your own children this way?

    Hi doctor, sorry for being so annoying :'( i have another question, i'm having recurrent meibomian glands clogged (5 in the last 2 months) they don't hurt, i don't know why they keep appearing if i do lid hygiene everyday and i clean my lid margins with a cotton tip, i'm already doing Omega 3, and having a plant based diet, no gluten small amount of sugar, small amount of dairy, and fasting,i started doing hot compresses in September and they appeared one month later :'( i don't know if hot compresses are the cause of this :'( what can i do? Thank you my doctor only said that everyone gets that :'( i'm mostly aquous deficiency, i really don't know how my meibomian glands look, but since i don't have a Lot of discomfort, and i can see in my lower lids liquid meibum i think they're not so bad, thank you and i'm sorry :'(

    • @drnataliechai5551
      @drnataliechai5551  3 года назад

      Don’t be sorry! I’m happy to answer your questions :) it is suspicious of meibomian gland dysfunction especially with the recurrent nature. You are doing everything right and I really like how you are also honing into your diet and lifestyle. The hot compresses may not be able to penetrate/stimulate the glands effectively since it is recurring. You may need to explore more of the in-office procedures that can penetrate more into your tissues. I don’t know if your doctor or if any other doctors in your area offer the Intense Pulsed Light(IPL) or the Lipiflow or the iLux treatment?

      Hi there. I apologize for the delay in response. Work and life has been busy and had to take a step back from social media and videos unfortunately. I am glad your doctor decided to start your son on 0.01%. Even though there is not a lot of research around atropine for children that young, it is worthwhile. Especially if both you and your husband are both myopic and if your son is starting to show risk factors around myopia, it is very responsible for your doctor to start the low/dose atropine as preventative/prophylactic measures. Of course, I hope your doctor is also following up very closely. How is your son doing?

      Yes, you can definitely use it even on a 'low' prescription. In the myopia management 'world', the experts are even suggesting starting low-dose atropine in children who may not have a prescription now but have certain risk factors. Studies have shown good safety profile

      @@nikhitadevaraj3977 Hi Nikhita - 0.50D fortunately is relatively 'low' however you definitely want to implement actions to keep you stabilized. One of them is spending more time outdoors whenever possible. Low-dose atropine is certainly a good option to start. We have no conclusive evidence that show whether it is 100% safe or 100% bad. We do know that it doesn't demonstrate bad side effects for children nowadays. There is currently no cure for myopia at this moment. Our best action is to prevent it from worsening at an unacceptable rate. I would also suggest eating a healthy diet. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any one using atropine eye drops - I would encourage you to do research in your local community and perhaps start asking questions to see if any eye doctor is practicing its use. I hope that helps?

    No, no, no Atropine for my child. The long term effects have never been proven.
    It can not be considered even safe.

    • @drnataliechai5551
      @drnataliechai5551  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for your comment - and I appreciate your perspective. Yes, this is a very common reservation for a lot of parents for their children and is indeed a very valid one. Currently the evidence demonstrates a safe profile but you are correct, the long term effect has not been proven until these children are followed well into their adulthood. However, nothing in science is ever really proven, we practice to the best of our ability based on the best scientific current evidence we have. Also have to remember the adminstration is topical and not oral, at an extremely low dose, and typically for a temporary amount of time. All of these factors contribute to an improved safety profile. Believe me, all experts and everyone in the field of myopia management are keeping a very close eye on the developments of low dose atropine. Thankfully, you live in a period where there are multiple options for your child :)
